Calling yourself metis is not the same thing as being Metis. The latter requires that you hold status in a Metis organization, that you can trace your family back to one of the few Metis settlement areas and that you are active in the culture.

You do all those things? Or are you trying to hide behind a virtual sash and fiddle as a point of trying to create a false shaman persona?

Ummm, yes, I'm Metis. I voted in the last MMF election (which was a crock). I don't have a card, but my father does, as do several 1st cousins of the same generation. I don't have a card, because I've never tried to get one, but I could, as the MMF already considers me a member as a matter of family lineage. Thank you though....

Oh, and I can play the fiddle...very well in fact.

If we simply stood up for freedom of speech in a unified way, protected those who chose to speak on whatever topic, and retaliated against those who would take away our right to do so, all the Muslim protests in the world would do nothing to stop us. But instead half our society is busy saying that maybe we should be more sensitive to their feelings, that maybe we don't need to have our free speech be so provocative, that maybe we should limit free speech if it offends some groups, etc.

And so the West falls lower and lower.

You are kidding me right? There are all kinds of anti-Islam voices being raised in public - do a little Google search. Not to mention two wars being fought against their radical insurgent element and all kinds of legal action here surrounding their clothing. That a few media executives decided to err on the side of caution with regard to cartoons does not equate to the erosion of free speech in the West.

If you want to listen to bigoted noise from people whose primary news source is cartoons and bumper stickers, there is plenty abound still.

That's good. And then you should know that Stephen Harper and his Reformers are bent on wiping out any trace of that heritage.

If you are truly a Conservative, then why would you accept that....?

Why do I keep getting this? I'm not a Conservative...not even a conservative. Look at the line under my name.

Metis heritage? The First Nations own that issue do they not? Its time to settle the claims in Canada, put a bow on the deal and move on.

There is no such thing as "just a little bit Conservative."
