Pliny Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 The Arizona law is held in question as bypassing federal authority to make immigration law but sanctuary cities can make their own immigration policy.???? Congressman speaks Quote I want to be in the class that ensures the classless society remains classless.
sharkman Posted July 21, 2010 Report Posted July 21, 2010 I have to agree, this really appears to be hypocritical at first blush. Quote
Pliny Posted July 21, 2010 Author Report Posted July 21, 2010 I have to agree, this really appears to be hypocritical at first blush. What really is the problem of immigration in the US? Neither Bush nor Obama nor previous administrations seemed interested in securing their border. The problem simmered for a long time and seems only now to have come to a boil. I think there is something deeper to this story. Perhaps something to do with drug smuggling???? Quote I want to be in the class that ensures the classless society remains classless.
sharkman Posted July 21, 2010 Report Posted July 21, 2010 I'm not sure what the tipping point was, but in observing the Arizona Governor it seems to me she has the cajones and the common sense to do something about the increasing crime and deaths that stem from illegals. In my opinion, Obama knows he can't do a thing about the Arizona law. He is just wanting to give the appearance of championing the cause to garner support/votes from latinos who don't like the law, because that's about the only hope he has to reduce the affects of voter anger at Dems. Pliny Posted July 21, 2010 Author Report Posted July 21, 2010 More to do with the fact that the economies of places like California are heavily reliant on illegal immigrant labor. That is a point to consider but businesses hiring illegals are committing an offense. Wouldn't nipping it in the bud have prevented the burgeoning reliance on immigrant labour? They could just change the law. I know States see an increased tax burden in providing government services to so many illegals but changing the law would have to take that into consideration.
