On any number of issues there is an acceptance of a divergence of opinion - ie abortion, death penalty, gun control, immigration and multiculturalism, gay rights.

There is no such acceptance from the NDP. You either fully accept and parrot 100% of their platform or get lost. There is no ability of an individual to challenge the sacred cows of Chairman Jack.

First of all, the level of orthodoxy you claim is BS. Secondly, the reasons the Tories do, and always have had to keep the doors open is because they are essentially a union between economic and social conservatives. There was considerably more orthodoxy in Reform than in the Tories.

MP's have been threatened to be booted from the NDP caucus for not voting the way Layton says, it's well documented.

On your Reform point,

Well since this isn't a history class we'll just talk about what's going on currently which is the the scope of this thread. Thanks a lot.

MPs in every major political party have been threatened. Tell me what would happen if a Tory MP voted against the budget.

Party discipline isn't a Left-Right problem, it's a problem of political parties and their leadership having too much power over MPs.

My point was that the Tories, and to a certain extent the Liberals too, are made up of a number of factions, and any leader of either party trying to enforce his will too tightly could potentially create a breach (as happened in the dying days of Mulroney's government). So they let their MPs off the hook on many free votes, but when the party views a vote as key in some way, all of a sudden the whips become the party leadership's enforcers to force a vote (or in the case of the Liberal vote on the budget, to keep MPs out). It's a sign of just how rotten and fundamentally undemocratic the political parties in Canada have become.

Let's try to stay on topic please. The bash Mr.Canada thread is within my sig.

The problem with the "bash Mr. Canada" thread is that Mr. Canada continues to post syruppy nonsense and comments within the forum. Sometimes a persons asks for it without contributing to the dialog.

There are some on MLW that I enjoy bantering with and agreeing or disagreeing and I willl never agree to disagree. Even some biting nasty comments happen but usually they are leveled out as the discussion continues.

There is no need to make a comment on the "bash Mr. Canada" thread.

this schtick is getting long of tooth.

I'll go back to the beginning of this thread and see if there is someway to put the thread back on track from where you began.

Guergis is going to go, it's just a matter of when.

....After dealing with gangs, whores and addicts in downtown Winnipeg I'm sure she would be used to pressure by now and wouldn't be prone to public meltdowns.

if Jaffer is the addict, whats Guergis? :o

You might want to rethink your post after counting how many NDP MP's voted for the bill to scrap the long gun registry.
