Mr.Canada Posted March 13, 2010 Report Posted March 13, 2010 (edited) Canada's largest research-funding organization has slapped an extraordinary ban on a star scientist who is accused of plagiarism and of spending up to $150,000 in government grant money on custom car parts, televisions, home-entertainment systems and other equipment "inconsistent" with his research proposals. This is a step in the right direction for the government. We need to keep a tight rein on people who recieve government and if found to be wasting it on luxury items not related to your grant application you should be barred from further monies. Finally the government is starting make people be responsible for themselves, slowly but it's starting. The records also show Prof. Kwok was long seen as a rising star. Said to be from Hong Kong originally, he completed his master's and PhD in engineering at the University of Toronto. This is however unfortunate as he appears to be a leading scientist in his field so we don't want to lose his work however an example must be made. Hopefully he can re enter at a later date of under the supervison of another scientist. "Four years is way too long for something of this kind," he says. Buying stereos, TVs and chrome car parts with science grants seems such an "egregious" breach of the rules that someone with a fifth-grade education can understand it, he says. Source It wasn't as if it was a one time thing this was a regular habit for this man over a four year period. He obviously knew what he was doing was wrong and kept at it anyways. Hopefully he will repay the money and learn from this and behave himself and respect tax payer dollars from now on.
