maplesyrup Posted May 25, 2004 Report Posted May 25, 2004 Minority possible: Top Liberal Prime Minister Paul Martin's main point person in Quebec conceded yesterday that the Liberals could win only a minority government, in what critics are sure to seize upon as a stunning admission at the beginning of an election campaign.Jean Lapierre warned a Quebec audience that a minority government would mean less stability, and less ability for the government to keep its promises. "If we are in minority, for example, with a scenario of minority government, at that point there is less stability," he said in an interview broadcast on Montreal French-language radio station CKAC yesterday. "I prefer a majority government, because you make commitments for four years, you can deliver over four years and be judged over four years." Sounding fatalistic, Lapierre said the fate of the Martin government is in the hands of destiny and the people. "You have to believe in destiny, in democracy," he said. "Personally, I am not excluding any scenario." This is quite a stunning admission howver It is good to be realistic. August1991 Posted May 25, 2004 Report Posted May 25, 2004 He was talking on the same radio station where he had his show during an interview with someone he knows. In context, I think he meant that a minority government would be bad because it would be unstable. His quote has not been reported that way. Quote
