The matter of Liberal red was an issue at the time the flag was adopted.

Wrong. The Liberal party flag never had blue in it. Ever.

It was the maple leafs that that the Tories didn't like even though they came from the old flag.

The vote to adopt the flag was 163-78.

In 1970, Trudeau introduced the Federal Identity Program whereby the colour red became prominent on federal buildings, letterhead, crown vehicles, etc.

Conspiracy or not, red is the dominant colour utilized to identify the Canadian government at home and abroad and happens to be the prominent colour of the Liberal party. Suffice it to say that this happy coincidence has not hurt the Liberals over the years.

Blame Trudeau and his people for the link to the colour later on. The Tories had a choice of a flag that had blue for the borders and rejected it.

The Liberals had pushed the blue border flag until the final committee vote when the last minute entry won unanimous support.

Are the Tories of today now rejecting that flag?

My classmates and I were each given small mass-produced flags during that run-up. They were lovely, with their red maple leaf, and blue bars.

Lord, I wish I still had that flag!

Here's Pearson's speech to the legion and other coverage from the time. http://archives.cbc.ca/politics/language_culture/topics/80/

Regarding the logo issue, WTF are Hedy Fry and Charlie Angus looking at? The logo isn't even close to the Conservative one. They should be laughed out of politics.

I wish Canada would have stood up for its old logo and against the dictators of the IOC. Now we're stuck with an ugly logo. I'd rather have just a red single maple leaf on white. Keep it simple.

I agree. There's very little similarity. It's completely a non issue and it makes the other two parties look even smaller for trying to make something out of it.
