The kid had borrowed my bike to go to work at the juice bar ...he's a good looking young man and works at a nice health club...You gotta be pretty to kept the upscale clients feeling important- Just as he was crossing an intersection - using the cross walk, a vehicle came around the corner speeding up to take the bend..wham..she broad sided the bike sending him flying to the pavement. Luckily she managed to stop before dragging him down the road and either killing or maiming him perminently. The cops insist that he charge the lady in the fancey car - who I found out later was some sort of fashion life style coach..The driver and my son were very co-operative with each other and seemingly civil.

- I just thought that it was a bit much when she called him up offering him a "bottle of wine" as if she had spilt a drink on his white suit during a dinner party. So what do you think - should we drag this lady though the courts or let her off the hook? I have a sense that this type of person has no regard for human life and is totally self absorbed. She may knock someone else down in the future and kill them. Prosecute or not ? She has been charged...Let's see how the boy feels in the morning - he is pretty banged up.. Recently I took a little tour along Bloor Street and saw the "monument" for the deceased biker who had the atercation with the former attorney general...from the lay out of the objects - It does not look good for Micheal Bryant. Point being - it might be best to accept the bottle of wine and let the matter pass...cos the courts are a joke and a waste of time.

I'm glad your son is OK, Oleg. Did he get checked out by a doctor, though? You never know what might show up later, and if he does decide to prosecute the doctor's examination will be important to the court. Offering a bottle of wine seems a bit odd, to me...

The kids got that Matrix thing going on - being a musican with great co-ordination he managed to see it coming...and did his best to mitigate the impact. I know about all the things needed for the legalists....we as a family are not really interested in the judical system..or litigation...IF he is more seriously injured than he believe he will deal with it properly. At first I was in total agreement with my son to let it slide - until I Googled the name of the driver. She is a professional charmer by trade..getting on the kids good side must have been easy for her. Yes the wine thing seems to give the impression this person is out of touch with humanity. But what do you expect from someone who caters to the needs of the rich?

Do the duty and do what is right and perhaps get proper results out of the system - and perhaps curb a person and set an example to those that are not aware of others and don't really care about others? Perhaps it's time to give the system another chance..but - it is up to the person involved and not up to me - The son is of age and can take care of his won affairs....If not...pops is going to have to saddle up and go to town one more time to set those barbarians straight.

The courts have no place in helping do the "right" thing. In fact it is likely dragging the lady through the courts will mean also being dragged through the mud.....your son having to defend himself both by the victimization of the defense lawyers and by the system when you all realize that justice will never be done.

The bottle of wine is a nice opener and it would make sense not only to accept the gift but to take the opportunity to talk with the woman. Get to the facts with her and your son and try to find a way to talk about how this event has affected you, as well as her and her family.

You'll be surprised at the amount of "justice" you find will have been done it you can follwo this process.......

Thats what the son says - He is wiser than I - but you know me I still like a good fight - Yes I understand the system after battling it out for a full 5 years - 24 7 - I would never do it again - nor would I suggest that he waste his time in a cess pool that only benefits legalists.

Several years ago my daughter was crossing the street with her daughter in a stroller. A car caught the stroller and sent it for a loop. There were no serious injuries but now we're rich.

Just kidding! I advised my daughter to not make any claims but I told her to take a really good look at her life, her friends and whatever else she had on her mind. She regrets not taking action today so she didn't really take any responsibility for the incident.

An accident is an accident and damage should be compensated, I suppose. Break a window with a baseball and it's up to the person who broke it to repair the window. It's a tough call.

If he's lost time from work or needs his bike repaired or pain and suffering that should be taken care of, in my opinion.

Insurance should cover losses with increased premiums for the driver as a sort of reality check.

That's what insurance is for- to make things all better. It too often doesn't though, does it?

Hope all is well!

Even if you do keep it out of the courts, and the son is physically fine, at least get a new bike out of her.

That's what i say too. Get a new bike or have it repaired if it was at all damaged.

Glad your son is ok.

Was she charged with a ticket by the police officer? "Reckless driving" or "failure to yield to bicycle" or whatnot.

Oleg, go for the throat! Milk this malevolent driver for all that you can for she'll surely do it again! He was using the crosswalk properly and she should be punished for ignoring the right of way!
