Pliny
what's he done??? saved the auto industry, prevented the world's largest economy from tipping into bankruptcy....ya you're right nothing important... It's a little bit early to say he saved the auto industry prevented the world's largest economy from tipping into bankruptcy. Seeing as it was already bankrupt what has he done to get them out of bankruptcy? Added another 2 trillion to the deficit over and above the ten trillion he has already forecast over the next ten years, would be a good answer. As for cash for clunkers - everyone that had thought they might buy a car was given $4500 for their old car, of which most were probably roadworthy, and consumers were saddled with another 11 Billion dollars in debt. The automakers sold some cars but now what do they do to sell their cars - wait for the next government program? Why not just let people spend money where they want to. Then we will know whether to make cars or not, how many and what kind. Edited September 14, 2009 by Pliny Quote I want to be in the class that ensures the classless society remains classless. Sir Bandelot
I can't believe the right wingers want Obama's economic recovery to fail. Hasn't what you propose already been tried, for the past fifty years? In more or less general terms, it has. And in some ways that is what evolved into the unrestricted greed and plunder which required the masive bailout. That idea has already been exhausted and proven itself not sustainable. Oleg Bach
American culture is built on utter selfishness. They will never have a real health care system as we do --because - those that have coverage..cringe at the thought of giving their fellow man a crumb of damned bread - It's the trickle down effect from the supposed rich and powerful . The attitude trickles down into the whole population...Rule of thumb for the super rich establishement is "Take all you can and NEVER give anyone anything ever" Sure they give to charity - because when they give they turn a profit - that's not giving! For instance - one rich fellow I know ...does buisness deals worth in eccess of 4 billion dollars a pop....Imagine the access he has to funds...ask him for five buck if you are broke and he squirms..because they are trained from childhood to practice utter selfishness and that human being are dumb animals...SO - point being - American culture has a religion - of materialism - and power is based on the buck --not one single American is that has a few bucks will ever give up a buck in order to assist a poor person who is sick - they rather that they die ---it's cheaper for them in their minds - America will never have health care because the have no spirit - no benevolence or real good and kind will towards their fellow man - they just pretend they are good. Pliny
I can't believe the right wingers want Obama's economic recovery to fail. It isn't a matter of wanting it to fail. It can't succeed. It has no chance of success. Hasn't what you propose already been tried, for the past fifty years? No. It hasn't been tried since 1836 and that was in a very local district called the United States which was a small splinter colony formerly run by England. In more or less general terms, it has. It hasn't. We have been governed socially and economically all of our existence as a nation and over time experienced an erosion of what little freedoms and liberties we had. The United States has had some periods of what you might call a free market but not since at least the last century. And in some ways that is what evolved into the unrestricted greed and plunder which required the masive bailout. That idea has already been exhausted and proven itself not sustainable. Show me an unregulated market that exists in the world today. It doesn't. And hasn't for a long time, much greater than the past fifty years. If you wish to know how the housing bubble was created by government and the Federal Reserve you have some reading to do. It isn't simplistically explained by greed. It was, in a nutshell, a combination of government regulatory acts and Federal Reserve policies that created "moral hazard" in the market by providing guarantees and lowering the risks associated with implementing imprudent practices. How else do you think a an almost 2 century old financial establishment could have been destroyed? Quote I want to be in the class that ensures the classless society remains classless. Harsh words for Americans, Oleg. For a thinker I thought you might realize that most of people's profits are not made out of greed but from the production of wealth. You cannot have profits without producing wealth. Well, unless you are government and make counterfeit money. So most people deserve their profits. As for charity. They are charitable, that government allows them to keep more is only an encouragement to give more. Do you want to know why, someone squirms when you ask them for five bucks? Because everyone is already in his pockets and especially government. Cut them a little bit of slack. I don't give a bum on the corner a quarter unless he does a jig for me and earns it. AS a choice, he can go to the government and get his money for nothing fix. Edited September 15, 2009 by Pliny Quote I want to be in the class that ensures the classless society remains classless.
