What about Levy?

The mean-spirited disaster that was the Harris government can not be allowed to happen again. The well-intentioned disaster that was the Rae government wouldn't be much better, but at least it was well-intentioned.

Makes yah wonder what funeral they were at?

The well-intentioned disaster that was the Rae government wouldn't be much better, but at least it was well-intentioned.

It's funny, but alot more blame is put on the Rae government after its demise, then during the period they governed. I recall someone saying how he hated the NDP tire tax, only to discover that the NDP got rid of the tax, because it was not achieving its goal of reducing tire consumption or creating viable recycling options. IT was a tax grab, that initially was welcome by the the Peterson government and the public, after the Hagersville tire fire.

But, yes, the well intentioned Rae government managed to let down everyone including their base. Another thing I found of interest was the number of Conservatives who voted in the Rae government, some saying their first and last time, to ever vote NDP.

There was something in the surprise of 1990, that inspired alot of hope. It never materialized, although I have to say, the Harris Conservatives outspent the NDP, and the McGuinty Liberals have heavily outspent the Rae era NDP.

Another interesting thing in this By election is that the Green Party appear asleep.

For me personally, and I am not voting, the HST is a major change coming to Ontarians, and voting anything but Liberal is a start, to send a message in the By Election.

The fact that the PCs and CPC are talking out both sides of their mouths on the HST, means I can't see rewarding the PCs with a vote, in which they are Federally saying HST and provincially saying NO HST, yet it is the same membership.

The papers have been kind to Heller and some have said he should be the MPP, but I still think this is a STRONG STRONG STRONG Liberal riding.

Voting for Heller or independant isn't a bad set of options over spoiling a ballot, although I prefer those who spoil a ballot, better then those who fail to vote.

Good to know a few people in the riding are on MLW.

OK Morris -> who's it gonna be ?!?

The question is heavy

But as a renter

I'm glad they sent her

So I guess it's Levy

...the HST is the single worst thing to happens to renters since the end of rent controls...

Conservative... ok... at least it's not liberal...

out of 5 voters I know it's 2 libs, 2 ndp and 1 con

I would not care if a dipper wins..If I knew that a dipper had a chance I would vote that way. This by election for me in only a way to send the anti HST message and not an oportunity to elect democratic communists who by the way, are evil incarnate.

Democratic communists are running ? Really... he said dryly...

My mistake, democratic communists are figments of the fevered imagination.

I don't know if the people of Ontario know how to send a message anymore.

MY prediction is a Liberal Victory.

My hope is anyone but Hoskins. Not that he isn't a decent candidate, I just have a problem with someone who uses the food bank to defend a tax grab on the poor.

Results await....

M.Dancer and M Hardner better make it to the polls to cancel each others vote out ..... LOL

IN my book, that's 2 votes against Liberals - not us cancelling each other out.

Add my neighbours and my wife and we're up to 5 votes against Dalton's poll-managing brainologists.

Dr. Eric Hoskins handily defeated Toronto Sun city hall columnist Sue-Ann Levy in the St. Paul’s byelection by several thousand votes tonight, bolstering the Liberal government of Premier Dalton McGuinty.

I have met Eric Hoskins and thought he was a pretty great person at the time. And this is before I knew of his interest in politics.

I have no idea what the local issues were in the riding or how he handled his campaign. There does seem to be a prevalence of other political supporters on this forum who believed the Liberals were toast but the win seemed fairly convincing.

I sent Eric a letter of congratulations I hope he does a good Job although I wasn't supporting him.

At 55% supporting conservatives, this forum soooo represents the general population.

Who ever said it did? Who says it's supposed to?

Does the lack of manners over at "rubble.com" represent those of every Internet forum poster?

It is what it is. At least even with an over preponderance of Tories the board is far more civil!

There was another poll, in which the contest went heavily toward the NDP (which actually won too). Sometimes the punters are right, sometimes wrong and sometimes its wishful thinking.

I believe this to be the case with the ST Paul election. The people here are political, a bit in tune with whats happening, and yes some are extreme partisans and some are great pundits who can pick em.
