Dave_ON Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 Only 11% respond that the Senate is fine the way it is. Meaning 89% want some type of reform. That is the will of the people. http://www.robbinssceresearch.com/polls/poll_261.html Now let's ask thos same people surveyed what the senate does and see what percentage can answer even remotely correct. You're unable to accurately stipulate what the senates role in our government is and I have no doubt that is largely representative of most Canadians. If I had to make up a statistic on the spot, I'd go with 74.753% of Canadians don't even know what the senate does. Also according to this poll it was only 53% that said senate reform was important not 89%. Question #1Generally, how important is Senate reform to you? Very important 24 % Important 29 % Unimportant 31 % Very Unimportant 21 % The will of the people is not contained within a survey conducted on roughtly 5000 British Columbians. That's a survey of one region and is not tantamount to a referendum. Further to that end some of the quesitons don't even make sense and aren't even yes or no questions. example. Question #8How much time should the Opposition Liberal Senate be permitted to negotiate Senate reform bills and the Accountability legislation advanced by the Conservative party of Canada? Yes 09 % No 91 % Quote Follow the man who seeks the truth; run from the man who has found it. -Vaclav Haval-

g_bambino Posted July 9, 2009 Report Posted July 9, 2009 I would rather bet that it is one of those things where poll numbers do not reflect how an actual referendum would go. Exactly. A referendum needs a clearly and accurately worded question and a concrete alternative offered. The voting populace also needs to be educated on the subject they're deciding on. Sadly, most Canadians are severely lacking in knowledge about their civics and constitution, seemingly thinking that unless it regularly parrots political dogma on television, it's a waste of money.
