bush_cheney2004 Posted May 25, 2009 Report Posted May 25, 2009 (edited) Kinda made my point. If your point was that Americans were duped all along, then so was the UN and many other nations. "Inspections, inspections" were heard all about the land. Sort of like what we're doing in Afghanistan. Afghanistan was Canada's saving grace...still is. WIP Posted May 25, 2009 Author Report Posted May 25, 2009 How did they "dupe" Bush Sr. and Clinton? War was never declared against Iraq....how dramatic. Read the GQ article. To me it's a case of "no honour among thieves," I don't care which side wins; it's just fascinating watching them playing the blame game, and the secondary implication that a highly religious leader can be duped by a conniving aide who uses his religious beliefs to influence his actions. The only religious belief was in the application of American economic and military power....long before Dubya came along. This longstanding refrain of being "duped" is just a rationalization for the rubes who don't understand the entire continuum of American foreign policy over the past 125 years. It doesn't take a "highly religious leader" to do such things. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.

Just like the big pure muscle guy in the Armani suit - carrying a semi auto in his vest pocket - who has the Italian accent and the smile - and the eyes that do tear up over a dead puppy but never a dead competator..that is American policy..simple - pure force and intimidation with a dash of amuzing character. Assuming that the Bush aides aren't lying: why did Rummy put pictures of crosses and bible quotes on the reports he was sending to the President? A plain cover with a title page could have done the job. You may not like it, but the United States can open up a can of whup-ass anytime that option is execised from among many choices offered up by staff, and has done so in the past. Parsing Bush away from the American continuum is just a political tantrum. Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
WIP Posted May 27, 2009 Author Report Posted May 27, 2009 Because he wanted to court favor over the doves in his cabinet. .....and he could do this by merely putting crosses and bible quotes on his reports? That says a mouthful about Bush's capacity to be a competent chief executive! You may not like it, but the United States can open up a can of whup-ass anytime that option is execised from among many choices offered up by staff, and has done so in the past. And your can of whupass is costing billions per month with no end in sight.......well, actually it will come to an end one way or another, because the U.S. is going to end up so far in debt that it will have no choice other than scaling back the empire. Parsing Bush away from the American continuum is just a political tantrum. ??? It's no different than when an airplane crashes! This is perfecf for Obama - his present actions will be clouded and any un-orthodox measures will not be notice now that they have George and Dick to kick around - I am sure that the Obama administration are quiet happy with the attention paid ot the former. AND I am sure that Dick and the fellow scoundrels know that it is their job to create a diversion - by sending the American public mind back into the past while Obama rapes the present and creates a strange future that is all part of the plan - both administraions are still the same administration - has anyone noticed anything different other than a more skilled orator? WIP Posted May 28, 2009 Author Report Posted May 28, 2009 Bush did what he wanted to do...consistent with existing US policies...any questions? Yes! Maybe he didn't want to invade Iraq, but was unduly influenced by the Bible quotes linking a battle in Iraq with prophecy! Oh well...no balls...no blue chips. Those balls are carrying a hefty price tag, now that it seems Obama is not going to end these wars any time soon! . .and then they go right back to flying airplanes. The biggest disappointment with the new Obama Administration is that they have no interest in allowing the justice system to take its course and investigate possible crimes committed by the Bush Administration. WIP Posted May 28, 2009 Author Report Posted May 28, 2009 - both administraions are still the same administration - has anyone noticed anything different other than a more skilled orator? Okay, now I get it! So far, the only change is a promise to refrain from waterboarding in the future. With no prosecutions of the people who ordered interrogation techniques that are regarded as torture internationally (and by previous U.S. administrations), there is nothing to stop the next president from ordering a return of "enhanced interrogation" techniques. And, there is nothing preventing torture from migrating from detainees at Gitmo to being used on U.S. citizens. What's worse is that little else has changed, aside from dropping the term - "War on Terror;" indefinite detentions without trial will continue, and they will continue to be denied any legal status to challenge their incarceration; illegal wiretapping will continue; Iraq War will go on for at least another four years; and the U.S. is digging in even deeper in Afghanistan. In a sense, Obama is more dangerous on foreign policy than Bush -- since he has buffed off some of the sharp edges (like promising to stop waterboarding) and presents a more eloquent defense of interventionist military policies than bumbling George Bush ever could have on his best day!
