August1991 Posted April 21, 2009 Report Posted April 21, 2009 Italy will host the G8 summit in 2009 and Berlusconi has chosen Sardinia as the venue. (Berlusconi has an extravagant residence there.) The People's Summit. Beurk. These summits are supposedly PR exercises when in fact they have become playgrounds for bureaucrats and security types. The politicians don't know how to stop this juggernaut. ----- I have no idea what Harper's planned itinerary is this summer but anyway, I suggest that Harper stop in Zwolle, Holland on his way to Sardinia. Why? Well, the G8 Summit itself offers nothing but the trip there and back - in PR terms - offers something. Zwolle is in northwest Holland and Quebec soldiers liberated the town in 1944-45. There is a street in Zwolle named after Leo Major. Look carefully at the flags in this video. Look at these photos. Fundamentally, people in Quebec and Canada need to understand why our PM sits at a table in Sardinia and what we want him to do there. People in Quebec and Canada need to understand why our soldiers are part of NATO and why they are in Afghanistan. --- Harper is a typical English-Canadian. He is Canada's first WASP PM who can speak comprehensible French and the first to win federal seats in Quebec on his own. That's a remarkable feat. Unfortunately, after his various gaffes, Harper will be lucky to keep the 10 Tory seats in Quebec in the next federal election (likely in the fall 2009). IMV, Harper is an "outside the box" person. Maybe now is a time for him to go outside the box and remind all Canadians of their past. A trip to Zwolle would do that. Quote

Queen's or Governor General's job. No need to attach party politics to such things. Quote
