August1991 Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 The last thing that Obama wants is the idea that he can't get along with foreigners. Obama's whole schtick is that he can bring people together. Harper needs votes among pro-Obama (pro-American) Canadians in Toronto. The last thing that Harper wants is a dispute with Obama. IOW, in public, these two, for their own reasons, want to show that the get along. What happens in private is entirely different, and largely irrelevant. Obama has bigger worries, and so does Harper. Such is politics in a democracy, We the People... Quote
Shakeyhands Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 I found this quite interesting/telling. One has to wonder what Harper and teams knack is for such positive press all the time. "It's very odd," said Senator Lowell Murray, a former Progressive Conservative cabinet minister who is not part of Harper's caucus. He said there is no shortage of rooms in the Parliament building where Obama could conveniently meet with Ignatieff during the president's afternoon there.Kory Teneycke, Harper's director of communications, would not discuss the choice of venue. http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/article/589845 Quote "They muddy the water, to make it seem deep." - Friedrich Nietzsche
