Jean_Poutine Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 Threads just degenerate when any type of nickname is used. Bush confidantes have said someone like Bush gave everyone nicknames to assert dominance and bully. I tend to agree. Yet Michael Ignatieff's web site uses the nickname Iggy. The video section is called "Iggy Tube". Just because someone uses a nickname doesn't mean that they're being derogatory. Quote
jdobbin Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 Just because someone uses a nickname doesn't mean that they're being derogatory. Harper once ran under Steve. I don't use that simply because it is more courteous to use the proper name. Quote
waldo Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 in the face of your failed attempt to disparage Ignatieff, certainly, an apology would be helpful... for the appearances sake you speak of.waldo, what do you mean apologize? A Liberal blogger reported that Ignatieff didn't contribute to the party and provided data from the Elections Canada site to support his claim. Initially, no mention was made of the Laurier Club. I'm not the only one who accepted that information at face value. In fact, even some Liberals did. notwithstanding your face value acceptance of a dubious report, you attempted to use it to belittle Ignatieff for, presumptively, not contributing to his own party. No apology is necessary – I simply said it would be helpful… whimpering that you weren’t the only one is a mildly sufficient retraction – thank you. Quote
daniel Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 So much for the myth that conservatives are fiscally responsible. They keep throwing more bad money after bad. Quote
Bryan Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 All the Laurier Club is, is recognition of those who have donated the maximum ($1100). If Ignatieff was a Laurier Club member, then that $1100 absolutely must be recorded by elections Canada. It might not be accounted until the end of the year, but it must be accounted. If he really did make that contribution, either the Liberals or Elections Canada have problems with their database. After looking over the EC site, the latter looks just as likely as the former. It's only if you donate less than $200 TOTAL that you might not end up on Elections Canada's DB (although even there, many people are). You write one cheque for $180 one month, and one for $70 a few months later, that gets reported as a $250 donation. Quote
capricorn Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 All the Laurier Club is, is recognition of those who have donated the maximum ($1100). That's right. Elections Canada would not have a specific entry for Laurier Club donations. With an annual donation of $1100 to the National Liberal Party, paid through monthly donations or a one time gift, donors achieve Laurier Club status. We invite you to join in this tradition and secure your personal stake in the momentum the Liberal Party generates across Canada. https://www.liberal.ca/laurier_e.aspx Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. punked Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 That's right. Why I don't know but this is a fact. Like I said if you keep to the lie maybe someone will believe it right? Quote

I know many monthly donors from a few parties giving over $200 a year who are not listed. The only people I ever see get recorded are ones that give over $200 at a time. Some Tory bloggers also pointed out that they gave below the limit each time and never made the list. Quote
