No but we are going from village to village trying to win the hearts and minds and all...the Taliban knows what routes we are going to take and simply wait for our guys to come along, flying in from different directions would foil their plans. The U.S. lost 5000 helicopters in Vietnam. They lost 2200 pilots and 2500 crewmen. Afghans have a long record of shooting down helicopters during the 1980s. Quote

You are a citizen and you own your representives..correct? I mean you did send them off to Ottawa...or did they go all by themselves? - I see the later writer talks about supplying troops with better equipment...that's a good idea - how about some massive tanks that can with stand those IEDs....if you are going to have a war - think big or stay home - What this poster is telling us is that we do not have the capabiltiy to fly about at will - if that's the case...more will die if the violence intesifies - wounded will not reach hosiptal in time due to lack of air mobility - plus - you should be able to swoop in on those cave dwellers at will.....maybe we should recruit some of the old Viet Nam chopper fly boys...with a few hip replacements they should be ready to go -----stop fooling around and give it up....By the time you are equipped with choppers and people who can fly them - it will be to late - and if you assist the Americans past the quit date - they will keep you there FOREVER. Oleg Bach Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 YES - our troops need to be air moblized! First we have to search out contractors to build choppers - or maybe just buy them from the Americans - and if the delivery date of the machines is to far off into the future - we could extend our exit date to 2020...why not - might just boost the ailing economy - after all when you have horrifically bad and untalented leadership - they take out the old play book that states "When you are not smart enough to manage a nation fiscally - wage war" - Anytime any nation is run poorly - they stoop to the lowest standard of monitary stimulation - killing people - real creative.. Argus Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 They already are!!!! No. An air mobile army has a lot more than a dozen transport helicopters. In fact, Canada has always been extremely backward in this respect. Even small nations have armed helicopters, for example. Canada has never had any, and has no plans to have any. Australia has gunships. New Zealand has gunships. ZIMBABWE has gunships. Canada considers them a suspiciously new and untested idea that still requires a few decades more research before they decide whether the concept has any merit. The Zimbabwe air force, btw, has more helicopters than Canada. Most likely they don't work very well, but they have them. Canada's military masters are still suspicious of the truck, much less the helicopter. To them, soldiers should get everywhere by foot. Jerry J. Fortin Posted December 20, 2008 Report Posted December 20, 2008 I will suggest a few squadrons of V22's is what we need. Why not its Christmas time! Quote
