madmax Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 So you think John Turner was a bad PM? Maybe anyone who has ever left the country should never be PM too. Yes, John Turner appointed a whole bunch of people to the Senate along with numerous other patronage appointments. It was one of his last acts as Prime Minister. Quote
Smallc Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 I do have a problem with the rush of Senators about to be appointed. I would have no problem with it provided that it weren't being done by a man who said he wouldn't do it. I also have issues with the distribution of the seats, but other than that, I'm fine with it. Mr.Canada Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 You have a problem with Tommy Douglas and John Turner? What makes you think that somebody born out of the country is considered a "foreigner"??! Jeez.. Does the Citizenship act mean anything anymore?? What makes you think that somebody born inside the country is automatically loyal to the country? They are from the UK. Canada was founded on UK principals, this is acceptable. Based on a pure lucky roll of the dice... Viola! You are now born in Canada.. In addition, you are entitled to be "more Canadian" than everybody else.. Woohoo Assimilation.. Ever hear of that word? I am honoured to have been chosen to be Canadian by God. God decided I would be a great Canadian as He chose the great place called GB to guide us and here I am. People in Canada do not assimilate, that would be a melting pot like the US. We have multiculturalism in Canada. cybercoma Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 We could just count the fingers. All have only three fingers. Mandate that all fake replicas, looking to be human or not, must have three fingers. I'm sorry I contributed to this trainwreck. Quote

Tell that to my good full blooded ethnically Chinese friend who came to this country when he was 3 or 4... Not at all. If I was born in India than I would just be have discussions on an Indian political board instead of a Canadian one. It is possible to assimilate but it is frowned upon by many who come to this country and many of the white Liberal elite. It isn't a law that they must and so many do not. Mr.Canada Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 By the way, glad to know that you don't believe in the Citizenship Act.. Well to be honest anyone can say that they're loyal but how do we know for sure? I would like it for Canada to have mandatory CF enlistment for everyone. That would ensure loyalty to her majesty the Queen and her crown colony, Canada. Quote "You are scum for insinuating that isn't the case you snake." -William Ashley Canadian Immigration Reform Blog
LesterDC Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 It would seem that a great many others only strive to change them. Do you have any idea how many CANADIANS there are that were born out of the country? A lot of them are more loyal to Canada than a lot of Canadian born citizens.. Oh yeah, guess what? The GG was born in Haiti.. Maybe you should take this up to the Queen or the Prime Minister.. Apparently, she isn't Canadian enough. Quote

Good to know that your interest in Canadian affairs relies on the fact that you were born here.. Not because of the fact that you believe in our system, are loyal to the Crown and Canada and share our common values and beliefs.. When they were born India was part of Britain who should they have been loyal too. You are making a weird rule which is not only stuipd but that seriously does not make sense. Quote

Loyalty must be proven not just some obscure words. Like I implied before, apparently, you feel obligated to remain loyal to a country's beliefs and values, REGARDLESS of your own personal beliefs, because you were just born there.. You see, if I was born in India, I would look over to Canada and say, "hey look over there, I like what they have going on there.. Hey, you know what? I believe in individual rights and democracy.. Hey, you know what? I would rather be Canadian than American, I am a social democrat..". Then, I would move to Canada and become Canadian. I would not give half a shit if I was born in India, I would move to Canada anyway. This applies to being born anywhere in the world.. But of course, you would not allow me to do this.. To you, I would not be a "full Canadian".. Diefenbaker is rolling in his grave about now.. Quote

Bryan Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 It has no force of law behind it. Some might step down while others wouldn't. Don't believe me? Looks at how many people finf a reason to stay after saying they would only serve two terms. You can it on Winnipeg's own city council. The only frame of reference we have where a CPC Senator was in a position to step down as agreed is Fortier. He said he'd step down and he did. Sure n=1, but it also equals 100% of all CPC senators who agreed to step down have stepped down when agreed. The only other CPC appointed Senator there is was elected, twice. Quote
