bush_cheney2004 Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 Take a look at the states with highest STD rates and tell me why they are predominantly Bible Belt states that have the most conservative churches and the schoolboards that push abstinence education and prevent sex ed for students: Sorry, your assertion fails the smell test for "Bible Belt".....mighty Kansas isn't even on the list. Nice try..... Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
M.Dancer Posted November 26, 2008 Report Posted November 26, 2008 Take a look at the states with highest STD rates and tell me why they are predominantly Bible Belt states that have the most conservative churches and the schoolboards that push abstinence education and prevent sex ed for students:Rank Primary and secondary syphilis Chlamydia Gonnorhea 1 Louisiana (7.6) Alaska (681.8) Mississippi (257.1) 2 Alabama (7.0) Mississippi (650.5) South Carolina (242.5) 3 Georgia (6.4) South Carolina (525.3) Louisiana (240.6) 4 Nevada (5.7) New Mexico (509.7) Alabama (234.0) 5 Maryland (5.4) Alabama (502.8) Georgia (216.8) 6 California (5.1) Hawaii (435.1) North Carolina (199.4) 7 Texas (4.7) Georgia (429.6) Delaware (176.0) 8 Tennessee (4.2) Delaware (428.6) Missouri (175.9) 9 New Mexico (4.1) Tennessee (424.6) Ohio (167.4) 10 Florida (4.0) Illinois (419.8) Tennessee (162.6) http://www.avert.org/stdstatisticusa.htm . Given that many of these are not "bible belt" states..I conclude that the correlation is the states who are known for having exceedingly hot chicks. Thank You Quote RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us
WIP Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Given that many of these are not "bible belt" states..I conclude that the correlation is the states who are known for having exceedingly hot chicks.Thank You Right! Take a closer look at the chart. It didn't come out right when I posted it since it should show clearly the comparisons by STD. Focusing on the top three: the three states with the highest syphilis rates are Louisiana, Alabama and Georgia. The three with the highest rates of Clamydia are Alaska, Mississippi and South Carolina (Alaska may not be in the Bible Belt, but this is the state that elected Sarah Palin after all). And, finally, Mississippi, South Carolina and Louisiana, have the highest rates of gonnorhea. So, if the more secular, blue states with the sex ed classes, are the most immoral, why aren't states like Washington State, Massachusetts, Conneticut or Delaware leading the nation in sexually transmitted diseases? Or for that matter, why does Connecticut have the nation's lowest divorce rate and states with the highest divorce rates are right there in Red State Bible Belt? James Veverka, who runs "STOP THE RELIGIOUS RIGHT .ORG" asks why the Bible Belt has failed so miserably to post numbers on a number of social issues that would back up their claims of being more moral than the godless states on each coast: We hear an awful lot from conservatives in the Bible Belt and on the TV about how we all should be living. Certainly a culture that teaches the conservative religious values of the Christian right must have clean living written all over it. And lots of ripe fruit from their morally superior lives abounding. It doesn't. Far from it. People that talk the loudest may be the ones walking the slowest. Joining its history of Biblically correct bigotry and discrimination, it is an area with the highest divorce, murder, STD/HIV/AIDS, teen pregnancy, single parent homes, infant mortality, and obesity rates in the nation. As a region, the Bible Belt has the poorest health care systems and the lowest rates of high school graduation. (See census.gov quick facts on right of census home page) The evangelical Barna Survey Group also tells us that conservative Christians have the highest rates of divorce of any religious group in the US. Atheists and Catholics had the lowest. NBationally, Massachusetts and Connecticut. those liberal northeastern states! have the strongest marriages. So, with camera, pen, and report card in hand, let's take a peak at this 'morally superior and not so shy about it' Christian nation whose only rise above it all seems to be the one in their pants.
