Argus Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 If "some" people being rude to you = oppression, I would not agree with you.Except FN's do have laws that protect thier culture. Now what? Seems to me there used to be laws which required FN children to attend English schools and I'm guessing you probalby wouldn't support them today. So now in Quebec we have laws which often require non-French kids to attend French schools regardless of what their parents want - and you think this is okay? Only for immigrants whose mother language isn't english. If a couple immigrates to Quebec from England their children are required to go to French schools. I'm thinking of this claus which most anglophone immigrants use. E.8 Children who reside temporarily in Quebec may be exempted to go to French school upon the request of one of their parents [85] Quote RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us

You are right, I wouldnt agree as how it was done. But is that the same , since that required the kids to be taken away from the families? So now in Quebec we have laws which often require non-French kids to attend French schools regardless of what their parents want - and you think this is okay? I dont think most of it is okay. I understand what , at least I think I do, what they are trying to accomplish. There are places in this country that have laws that favour, regional laws for instance (law=loosely based use please) that while I dont support, I dont get worked up over. Thanks for that link, I have never read that before. It is kind of screwy no doubt. But I read, with respect to the education of kids, that one can go to Eng school, if they are newly arrived and recd their last year of schooling in English. E-11 clause. Quote
Brunopolis Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 With all these extra rules Quebec requires beyond that of the rest Canada we may as well severe the bond and just give them their independence. Why not make our country the "United Provinces of Canada" where we are all seperate countries except we share our military and have free trade with each other. Kind of like United Arab Emirates. I think it would work out just splendidly. 8) Quote
