capricorn Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 I thought McKenna was an ok guy until I read he helped bring the NAU together along with Manning. It was Paul Martin who entered into The Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America on behalf of Canada. By your logic then, no one who was in the Liberal Party while it was in power should be eligible to be Liberal Party leader. "In a rapidly changing world, we must develop new avenues of cooperation that will make our open societies safer and more secure, our businesses more competitive, and our economies more resilient."Joint Statement by President Bush, Prime Minister Martin, and President Fox, March 23, 2005 Today, President Bush, Prime Minister Martin of Canada, and President Fox of Mexico announced the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP) at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/20...20050323-4.html Thursday, March 24, 2005American President George Bush, Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin, and Mexican President Vincente Fox met at Baylor University in Waco, Texas on Wednesday. The leaders discussed cooperation in the areas of border security, trade, and immigration, signing an accord called the "Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America." --- The agreement calls for greater sharing of intelligence and the strengthening of infrastructure security. It also seeks to develop a common system for screening travellers, and promotes collaboration in the sectors of transportation, energy, technology, and financial services. http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Bush,_Martin,_...sign_SPP_accord Our military is already harmonizing with the US military. Do you have anything to back up this ludicrous allegation? I'll answer for you. No. I thought not. As far as Dion, he did his best and he has nothing to be ashamed about and he showed Canada he loved his country something I've never heard Harper say. There's no doubt Dion loves Canada. Frankly, he was starting to get on my nerves with his "I love my country" bit. To presume that Harper does not love his country because he doesn't spout it out in every interview or speech is very shallow on your part. Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs." Will Rogers
scribblet Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 According to what I heard last night, if Dion steps down he will do so after coming to an agreement with the party that they would assume the debt. IMO it would be the right thing for the Liberal party to do. I think Dion is a decent person, just not a good leader. You have sat too long here for any good you have been doing. Depart, I say,and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go! Quote Hey Ho - Ontario Liberals Have to Go - Fight Wynne - save our province
Argus Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 I don't agree with his politics, but I do think he was doing it for the right reasons. I don't know if I am happy about a system which requires that kind of financial (or otherwise) risk from someone who is just trying to serve his/her country. Normally you don't. But he wanted to be leader. It takes money to run for the Liberal leadership, which no one apparently was willing to give him. So he borrowed it. See, this is all new to the Liberals. In the good old days he'd easily get tons of donations for the leadership from lobbyists who would then present their lists of demands for his govenrment to "pay them back" for their aid. This worked very nicely for decades until the rules were changed banning big corporate donations.
