Palin's detractors may be bewildered by McCain's choice for VP, and they mock her incessantly (quite excessively too at times), but let's consider the definition of derangment for a second:

American Heritage Dictionary - Cite This Source - Share This de·range (dĭ-rānj') Pronunciation Key

tr.v. de·ranged, de·rang·ing, de·rang·es

To disturb the order or arrangement of.

To upset the normal condition or functioning of.

To disturb mentally; make insane.

de·range'ment n.

Now let's consider what the "right" has been saying about Obama....

Obama is the anti-christ:

McCain's Ad implies Obama is the anti-christ:

The ad was the creation of Fred Davis, one of McCain's top media gurus as well as a close friend of former Christian Coalition head Ralph Reed and the nephew of conservative Oklahoma Senator James Inhofe. It first caught the attention of Democrats familiar with the Left Behind series, a fictionalized account of the end-time that debuted in the 1990s and has sold nearly 70 million books worldwide. "The language in there is so similar to the language in the Left Behind books," says Tony Campolo, a leading progressive Evangelical speaker and author.

As the ad begins, the words "It should be known that in 2008 the world shall be blessed. They will call him The One" flash across the screen. The Antichrist of the Left Behind books is a charismatic young political leader named Nicolae Carpathia who founds the One World religion (slogan: "We Are God") and promises to heal the world after a time of deep division. One of several Obama clips in the ad features the Senator saying, "A nation healed, a world repaired. We are the ones that we've been waiting for."

Emails circulating the net, imply the same thing:

Small town mayor (none of them have been in the news recently, huh?) sends out a chain email. From the Charlotte Observer:

Fort Mill Mayor Danny Funderburk says he was "just curious" when he forwarded a chain e-mail suggesting Democratic Presidential Candidate Barack Obama is the biblical antichrist. "I was just curious if there was any validity to it," Funderburk said in a telephone interview. "I was trying to get documentation if there was any scripture to back it up."

Obama is the first "gay" president:

In this way he may be more "gay" than Clinton was "black" - and by a wide margin at that.

For all the shell game that Obama was able to juggle in the run for President to date on the issue of his real, underlying views on the radical homosexual agenda - this week he removed all doubts.

In an alarmingly pointed written statement Obama signed his named to the personal promise of greater advance against the institution of marriage of any candidate to ever run for the highest office.

I personally love that one, booga wooga, the gays are gonna come for your children if Obama is elected.

Obama slaughter unborn black babies:

There is no candidate running for the office of the presidency with a worse record than Sen. Barack Hussein Obama. His hands have aided and abetted the abortion industry’s slaughter of the innocent and no other community is affected by it more than the African American community. It’s an industry that targets Afro-Americans for profit at the expense of our children’s lives and the pain of Black women.

and my personal favourite:

Obama is satan:

Did Jesus Claim Barack Obama is SATAN?

In Luke 10:18 Jesus I beheld Satan as Lightning fall from Heaven. How does a Jewish Rabbi, which Jesus is credited with being (John 1:38), say in HEBREW, that Satan is like LIGHTNING from heaven?

Barack, also transliterated as Baraq in Hebrew, is LIGHTNING (Strongs Hebrew word 1300). Even in Greek, Barak is LIGHTNING (Strongs Greek word 913) for the name of a person!

The ONLY WAY, a Jewish Rabbi can say in Hebrew that SATAN is LIGHTNING is, SATAN BARACK!

And we all know the one about "Obama is Muslim," no need to rehash that one.

I've seen so many more of these types of lunacies the last little while, I decided to make a compilation. There are plenty more examples if I were so inclined to continue looking, but I think you get the picture.

So if you want to see real political "derangment" syndrome - google OBAMANATION, pour yourself a glass of wine, and let the laughs begin....

It's kind of the worst thing that any humans could be doing at this time in human history. Other than that, it's fine." Bill Nye on Alberta Oil Sands

Why do you hate america...no wait that wont work..umm Why do you want a mooslim in offi....no wait that wont work...why do you want a gay black baby kil...no wait...

All silly rhetoric from both sides sadly. Muddy the waters and they look deep. IMO it was perfected by the right but both sides are now equally guilty.

As for the derangement angle, the Bush one is valid since pretty much everything bad that happened on earth was blamed on him.

Blamed on him by who? A few extremists on the left-- maybe? Saying that everything was blamed on Bush is really nothing more than another accusation by those who blame everyone who doesn't like Bush of having BDS. I guess if it's repeated enough, people believe it.

I blame what Bush was responsible for on him, yet I couldn't criticize him for starting a war based on lies, exaggerations, and false intelligence without being accused of having BDS. There's nothing valid about that. It was nothing more than a whiny accusation from people who couldn't refute the fact that he did start a war based on lies, exaggerations, and false intelligence.

It would appear to me to be a little more than extremists on the left. My point was a bit too open ended though.

I agree that it has become a staple reply from the right as a means to deflect but far too many have blamed him for everything .

I'm not sure if you're implying that the first video you posted is from the McCain campaign, or if I'm misinterpreting what you've said, but to be clear: that first video is not the campaign ad in question.

This is the McCain ad:

Personally I don't get why somebody would draw the conclusion that they're trying to link the ad to the Left Behind book series, or to actual end-times scripture kooks.

Pretty obviously they're ridiculing the almost cult-like devotion that some of the Obama movement has taken on. The ad mocks the view that Obama is not leading a political campaign but rather a spiritual movement, the seeming sense of self-aggrandizement in some of his statements, and the sense among some of his followers that he is some kind of messiah. The clip from "The Ten Commandments" was pretty over the top, but the ad seeks to make the point (as clearly indicated from the quotations they chose) is that the guy has a seriously inflated ego. Whether it's a good ad or a poor ad is subjective, but the point is pretty obvious.

Attempting to read some kind of end-times belief into it is what's called "projection".

My experience has been just the opposite. Far too many excuse him for everything while simply accusing those with legitimate criticisms of hating the views because we hate the man.
