CanoeEnglish Canadians may know Gilles Vigneault as the guy whoe wrote the song "Mon pays, c'est l'hiver.... " This is first an indication of the BQ's disarray faced with a potential electoral disaster. The BQ is thrashing around, claiming the Tories are radical Catholics, getting 79 year old cultural icons to denounce maladroitement Conservatives. Second, there is a deeper problem. Quebec sovereignty has been undermined by Harper. When Harper boxed in Gilles Duceppe and forced him to vote in favour of a motion recognizing a distinct Quebec within a united Canada, Harper resurrected Meech Lake. I would like to see Dion stick around to present a point of view against Harper. After this election, the Liberals are likely to jettison Dion and then Canada will be bereft. Ignatieff might be able to carry the weight. Kennedy certainly can't. Rae? Don't think so. ---- The BQ may disappear/shrink in this election but that does not mean Quebecers have dropped independance as an option. In 1995, Quebec was within a few thousand votes of becoming a country. (How many people wouild accept in such a civilized manner such a defeat?) This desire for independance will return again unless Canada finds a new, better way to organize itself. Canada is not a country - it is a good place on the earth - and our governments should reflect this fact. ---- Harper is no dictator but he presents an obvious impediment to Quebec sovereignty. I would prefer to see an informed opposition to Harpert at the federal level. Edited September 11, 2008 by August1991 Quote

Ontario Loyalist Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 Yes, the Harper is a dictator thing is nothing new, and sadly not all that inaccurate. Considering how bad he's been in a minority situation, one can only wonder what he would be like with a majority. Quote Some of us on here appreciate a view OTHER than the standard conservative crap. Keep up the good work and heck, they have not banned me yet so you are safe Cheers! Drea

Of course, Hitler is known for his slavish attention to constitutional law... Quote RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us
