jdobbin Posted September 11, 2008 Author Report Posted September 11, 2008 Sorry about that folks, looks fine on my screen. (My eyesight is a bit weak so I prefer bold fonts). I am confident that Stephen Harper is the one to achieve this balance if given the chance. Thank you. I cannot read colours very well and some fonts are impossible for me to decipher. I have actually left some forums because they were set up so poorly and I could read them without going to a lot of trouble. As per your comment: The carbon tax is not the only green program that will pass on costs. Both the Tory and the NDP will pass on large costs through cap and trade. Are you aware just how much will be passed on? Quote
M.Dancer Posted September 16, 2008 Report Posted September 16, 2008 Another good tax rebate idea from Harper. Mr. Harper's plan would offer a tax credit of up to $5,000 in reducing tax payable, and would go towards helping defray the closing costs on the purchase of a new home. Lowest-income Canadians would be eligible for the maximum amount, while buyers in higher income brackets would get less, Conservative officials said. "Our plan is simple, modest and practical," Mr. Harper said. "It's a tax break for first-time home-buyers, and a boost for the construction industry. Expenses like home inspection fees, land registration fees, transfer taxes, legal fees mortgage loan insurance premiums would all likely be covered, according to the Conservatives. Approximately 300,000 Canadians purchased new homes in 2007. Tory officials estimated the program would cost approximately $200-million per year. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...6/BNStory/Front Now I would ask for one better. Make interest on the principle home tax deductable. Quote RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us
cybercoma Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 Couldn't agree more. Cut income taxes, not consumption taxes. The promise to cut the excise tax is even dumber than promising to cut the GST.It's not that dumb and for all the reasons the poster with a buddy in the trucking industry said. You have to think further than the dollars and cents saved by the average joe. This tax reduction may save trucking companies and help reduce unemployment by stopping the small business owner who's just getting by from closing his or her doors. With the economic troubles in the United States, there's a storm coming and I'd almost say this tax reduction isn't enough. We're just lucky that the price of commodities is through the roof masking the issues we're facing. Quote

As commodities drop, our economic troubles are going to be more readily evident. Dion, Layton and May's answer? Raise taxes. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, but then again, I'm simple. Quote
jdobbin Posted September 17, 2008 Author Report Posted September 17, 2008 Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, but then again, I'm simple. Whereas Harper spends like crazy and lets his green plan pass on $8 to $9 billion in costs to the people who buy fuel. Quote

What are the other parties doing to address the economic issues we're about to face? Do Canadians really realize what's coming? Conservative policies here and in the uS CAUSED the financial crisis we were in. Our economy goes to hell every single time we have a conservative government. Harper is to blame for taking the largest federal surplus in our history and pissing it all away. Even Harper's deep cuts to social programs have not been enough to cover the costs of the conservatives lining the pockets of established wealth at the expense of the working class. Harper has managed to derail one of the strongest economies in the world and flush it down the toilet along with thousands of "family supporting" jobs in less than two years, and in a MINORITY government. If the people who benefit from conservative policies had to try and live on an average Canadian's icome for a couple of weeks they would probably die at the shock of a dose of reality. Quote
Bryan Posted September 17, 2008 Report Posted September 17, 2008 I love how the left loves to rail about how the CPC spends too much , yet in the very next breath says that they will solve all of our ills by increasing spending by billions of dollars!! Quote
