AngusThermopyle Posted September 1, 2008 Report Posted September 1, 2008 (edited) Intereting. Here's one I guess you could call a cold war relic, but its still very effective and in use to this day. Sosus Apparently the data is still collected but is no longer constantly monitored. I believe other organizations are using it for scientific research purposes now. DogOnPorch Posted September 1, 2008 Author Report Posted September 1, 2008 Intere(s)ting. Indeed. The construction shots of the various DEW Line stations are incredible. Everything...and I mean everything...had to be flown in via large cargo aircraft that set down on the ice (often sans prepared runways). SOSUS was sort of an underwater DEW line. But you needed such things otherwise the Russians would park their subs in Knight Inlet, and such...and did apparently before such detection devices. ----------------------------------- Heinrich: Noooo!
