capricorn
Michel Vastel, a renowned Quebec journalist died of cancer today at the age of 68. I regularly read his blog in l'Actualite to gain insight into the views of Quebecers on political issues. I had no clue he was ill and was shocked to hear this news. My condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. http://www.canada.com/montrealgazette/news...2c-be5c261992b0 Apparently, Chantal Hebert will be taking over his blog on September 2nd. IMO she'll be a fitting replacement.
August1991
Michel Vastel was a wonderful person who made this place Quebec/Canada so much better. He wrote with style and had the gift of Balzac. He wrote, and wrote. He was every where. Remarkably, he told the truth. When I saw his name, I always knew that I would read something good. While no one would say so now, Vastel was a modern day Robert Rumilly. ---- It is so sad that such a person can die and so many don't notice. Canada is not a nation. Canada is like the equator - a geographic definition. But it is a civilized, geographic space - a modern country. Who here on this forum knows of Michel Vastel? capricorn
I posted yesterday on his death in the media forum here on MLW. I read his blog regularly in L'Actualite for insight into the views of Quebecers on political matters. Vastel's readers are mainly francophone so I am not surprised he is not well known in Canada outside Quebec. As you are probably aware Chantal Hebert will be taking over his blog on September 2nd.
