guyser Posted June 5, 2008 Report Posted June 5, 2008 The theme song for Hockey Night in Canada may be no more. How can this be? They (CBC) got tired of paying Doris $500 everytime the song was played on the opening credits of a hockey game? Quote
HisSelf Posted June 5, 2008 Author Report Posted June 5, 2008 They (CBC) got tired of paying Doris $500 everytime the song was played on the opening credits of a hockey game? Do you have any evidence that the CBC pays this or that they tried to negotiate a better deal? My take is that this would be peanuts compared to the money that changes hands with every broadcast. They will be shown to be wrong though, much like they did when they screwed around with Cherry and McLean. It may be peanuts, but $500 everytime...?......that means she has cashed in $30,000 for the playoffs alone.(assuming 60 x $500...two months of playoffs) Add in the regular season , two games every saturday night, the odd day game, the odd weeknight game. I hope they reconsider. Quote

Borg Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 Well, I have read the sum several times in other articles - so I believe it to be true. Still far less than what many players make I would presume. Bottom line is who cares what the amount is - I am sure there are many cuts before the money gets to the originator. This is a national institution. Cancelling it is something that people will get over - however it will indeed be missed by many. Borg Quote
margrace Posted June 6, 2008 Report Posted June 6, 2008 Ya its about as hilarious as the story on todays new reporting that each tobacco vendor was paid $10,000 a year for those large tobacco board that they had to cover up. Quote

My take is that this would be peanuts compared to the money that changes hands with every broadcast. It's a matter of record. They payed $500 per telecast. Free for overseas broadcasts and for the forces serving abroad. Quote RIGHT of SOME, LEFT of OTHERS If it is a choice between them and us, I choose us
