jdobbin Posted May 27, 2008 Report Posted May 27, 2008 (edited) This is pretty funny actually. http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/080527/...ps_movie_review A provocative movie about the sex lives of young people is too hot for some Conservatives to handle - and a parliamentary staffer has been fired for ordering tickets to a special screening.Tory MPs are denying they ever planned to watch the film "Young People F**king" even though several of their names appeared on an RSVP list for an Ottawa viewing Thursday night. The movie has fuelled censorship debate around a Conservative bill that would deny tax credits to productions deemed "contrary to public policy" by the government. An assistant to MP Gary Goodyear from Cambridge, Ont. was fired after Goodyear's name showed up on the screening guest list. She had in fact ordered the ticket for herself. "I do not want to see his reputation harmed over something so trivial and untrue," wrote Victoria van Eyk in a clarifying e-mail early Tuesday to The Canadian Press. "The simple fact is we ordered an extra invitation for our files, and so that I may attend the film or pass the invitation on to someone who WOULD, in fact, enjoy a movie like that." The emphatic effort to clear her boss of any such predilection was apparently sent just before she was dismissed. No one in Goodyear's office returned calls. Edited May 27, 2008 by jdobbin Quote

Who's Doing What? Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 Plain funny. Too bad she lost her job though. What happened to the "private life" stuff we heard about over Bernier's ex-GF? Shouldn't she be able to go see any movie she wishes? Or was the ticket put on one of the Tory's non-existant expense accounts? The movie title is interesting though..... Quote Harper differed with his party on some key policy issues; in 1995, for example, he was one of only two Reform MPs to vote in favour of federal legislation requiring owners to register their guns. http://www.mapleleafweb.com/election/bio/harper.html "You've got to remember that west of Winnipeg the ridings the Liberals hold are dominated by people who are either recent Asian immigrants or recent migrants from eastern Canada: people who live in ghettoes and who are not integrated into western Canadian society." (Stephen Harper, Report Newsmagazine, January 22, 2001)
madmax Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 I wonder if she needs a date... Guyser? Be a gentleman and escort this young lady to see the flick... Apparently she is taking her SEVERANCE TICKET and going to the flick with some guy named Bernier. Sorry Guyser. Quote

jdobbin Posted May 28, 2008 Author Report Posted May 28, 2008 Slow news day today yawn ZZZZ Not slow enough for some on the right not to respond. I find it hilarious to find all these Tories lining up to buy tickets when it was decided this film was public enemy number 1. Let's see: Bad to see mature film, Good to date biker chick. Quote
madmax Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 Slow news day today yawn ZZZZ Not a great day for the fired employee either. Hardly a yawn for that person. Perhaps this isn't news for you. I think it is petty, which is why it seems to have attracted the dark humour in the thread. You should be happy the isn't a new fire to put out. The last fire was smouldering for weeks before it became the hot topic. Quote

madmax Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 That's right. No matter what the day the attacks will come. I understand that you would prefer the lameness of your attacks not be pointed out...Mature, such an ironic choice of word to be used in the context... Given that: According to commentators yesterday, unsecured secret cabinet documents are a firing offence regardless of where they were left. It was just a matter of time (although five weeks, in this instance, should have raised concerns at Foreign Affairs) before these documents were discovered missing and a trace put on them. The Government did not "FIRE", and thus Terminate Berniers Cabinet position for gross incompetence. Far more Ironic, and Far Less Mature, considering how quickly they acted to terminate a staffer. Michael Bluth Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 The Government did not "FIRE", and thus Terminate Berniers Cabinet position for gross incompetence. Yawn. Resignation/fired semantic hair splitting. Find one federal cabinet minister who was legally fired rather than resigning from cabinet.... madmax Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 Yawn. Resignation/fired semantic hair splitting.Find one federal cabinet minister who was legally fired rather than resigning from cabinet.... Are suggesting that no government has ever pulled a cabinet position from an MP. MPs have been turfed out of the party for lessor infractions. As for Resignations.... Lets compare to Recent CPC Cabinet Resignations. 1) Michael Chong who resigned over Harpers Pandering to Quebec, and Quebec Nationalism. 2) Maxine Bernier who resigns because of his own incompetence. This isn't about splitting hairs, as much as it is about, how quickly the CPC could act to terminate a "STAFFER" who has made an error that embarrassed the CPC, vs not moving to act upon an Incompetent Minister with very bad judgement. It wasn't until his "Travelling Companion" decided to go public, that any action occurred. You may call it splitting hairs. I still view it as ironic. Quote
guyser Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 Apparently she is taking her SEVERANCE TICKET and going to the flick with some guy named Bernier.Sorry Guyser. Beotch! Hmmph...her loss though. I had the 2 buck chuck chilling in the trailer, fresh box of saltines (yellow label ya know) with some cheese in a tube for us to have later. Is the theatre on a bus route? Hope so. Quote
