Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later.

The Bloc will force the Harper government to translate its Quebec nation motion into concrete measures.

The Bloc Québécois is poised to table potentially controversial legislation giving Quebec the power to opt out of the national Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission and set up its own telecommunications regulator.

Under the Bloc's plan, a new made-in-Quebec Conseil Québécois de la radiodiffusion et de télécommunications would govern what rules applied to Quebec's airwaves and what Quebecers would see on their television sets, independent of national rules applied by the CRTC.

"It is important for a nation to be able to control the promotion, the broadcasting of its culture," said Bloc MP Jean-Yves Laforest.

This sounds like outright blackmail:

"The objective is to increase the stakes, increase the pressure so that the Conservatives understand very well that if there is no concretization of the recognition of the Québécois nation by this House before the next election, that there will be a political price to pay."

The more the federal government gives to this spoiled child of confederation, the more they will demand.

Will the feds ever learn?

They are the BQ. They are Separtists, and this is why extreme regionalists need to be defeated in the next election.

Yeah, it's not blackmail because they have nothing on the government, like Harper in a Dress to release to the public. This is irritating, and will separate the 3 federal parties from them, which is its goal, but I am not certain it will find any traction in Quebec, unless the CPC or other fed party overreacts.

That will be an almost impossible task, since the last two referendums on separation, being around 49%, including those voting against separation with many being English speaking and other minorties. This alone indicates there is a lot of francophone support for extremism.

Simply being the Bloc represents blackmail.

Bloc demands are pro-Quebec nationalistic cultural demands and if Harper refuses, he will be seen as being anti-Quebec. The Quebecois could very well back the Blocs nationalistic demands in large numbers, come the next federal elction, if Harper refuses their demands.

I never did see the Liberals as a true national party and have been supporting and advancing Quebec ideologies for years, until receiving a little of their own type political competiton from the Conservatives. The NDP is inconsequential as far as Quebec is concerned and were never a key player.

This could very well leave Liberal leader Dion, beaming in the background.
