South Asia covers Pakistan, India, Bangladesh & Sri Lanka, all of which are linked in terms of culture and history. Think of it as being on-par with "European" It's a shorthand, and as long as folks recognize the difference within that group is about the same as within the "European" label, than it's fine.

Generally it's an official term, folks will never refer to themselves as "South Asian"

I am going to be offensive and use the term "Oriental" - oh la la - am I brave! Asia is a continent...oriental literally means from the east or the east - If you are saying that those from the east are displacing us..and when I am on the subway I get rused to death by being called a majority - and the Asian a minority - I don't get it - I count 75 Asians on the subway car - and I count one of me the lone white guy - time to STOP using the term minority - it's getting a bit fraudulent and stinky...wait till they educate their kids - and feed them North American food..growing the little oriental into a big 6 foot strapping corn fed white guy with asian features WHILE in the mean time our stupid anglo kids smoke dope and get stupid....sure would like to see the lazy potheads in twenty years washing toilets for the asian elite...Funny that it is so ironic - that Britian destroyed the young leadership in China with opium..opening the door to communism...seems that revenge is taking place incrimentaly.
