The committee, along with up to 11 staff members, will spend five days next week in Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut to study rural poverty. The estimated cost is $318,131. now that's funny, they are to go north in order to study poverty at a cost of $318,131 hmmm Edited February 16, 2008 by scriblett Quote Hey Ho - Ontario Liberals Have to Go - Fight Wynne - save our province

scribblet Posted February 19, 2008 Report Posted February 19, 2008 Check this one out and read to the bottom please, CTV.ca | Tory senators boycott trip to the to northAnd read about the casino trips. okay did - it seems the Liberals are okay with it. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...13?hub=Politics Liberal Sen. Joyce Fairbairn said it's the committee’s mandate to examine rural poverty across the country, and that includes the North."We are a group of senators whose job is to look at all parts of this country on a variety of issues," she said. Senators have traditionally taken winter trips. For example, a few members of the Committee on Aboriginal Peoples spent nearly a week in New Mexico recently. Their mission was to study Native American bands who have built thriving communities -- with the help of casinos. "If they have solutions to problems that plague the Native North Americans, I think we should exchange ideas and share in the learning process," said St. Germain, who is also a member of the Aboriginal Peoples committee. It appears if there is poverty up there,So What, but boy those casinos in New Mexico were great. Lots of wheat grown in the arctic? Why bother to go north. New Mexico? Lots of ag along with cattle, sheep, hogs, chickens, etc. As for poverty - it can be found any where you look. As for visiting a casino - suspect any one of us who has taken a business trip has spent some "off time" doing something other than work. Just another attempt to bad mouth a group with no substantial prove of harm done. Margrace - is there ANY good out there that you do approve of? Libs or NDP perhaps? Or is it simply a complete disapproval of everything Harper and the cons? Yawn ....... Borg Edited February 19, 2008 by Borg Quote
scribblet Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 Or is it simply a complete disapproval of everything Harper and the cons?Yawn ....... Borg That's about it, but as usual there's nothing to this and I don't understand the point... the Liberals and I guess conservative senators visited new Mexico to study how the use of casinos have impacted poverty - there was no mention that any Senators actually used a casinos's gambling facilities. (if that was the point) Personally I don't like casinos, IMHO they only contribute to poverty while lining the pockets of the owners I suppose. capricorn Posted February 20, 2008 Report Posted February 20, 2008 Personally I don't like casinos, IMHO they only contribute to poverty while lining the pockets of the owners I suppose. In Quebec and Ontario casinos are owned by the province except those owned by Natives on reserves. Casinos are cash cows and government is as addicted to the revenue as is the gambler to the games. http://www.olg.ca/resort-casinos/index.jsp http://www.casino-quebec.com/portail/nav/accueil So what if Senators visited casinos in Mexico. When on business in Montreal, I went to the casino for an outing and I told my boss all about it. What's to hide? Quote "We always want the best man to win an election. Unfortunately, he never runs."
