cybercoma Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 A good read on the topic...http://www.bibletexts.com/qa/qa078.htm Christianity does not condone such treatment of women. It was the men in the early centuries that brought this menality forth...and it continued for centuries. It was NOT Christ's teaching nor was it the writs of the New Testament. It was the twistings of men. There are many beautiful things said in the Bible to which I don't take exception. The things that Rue (I think it was Rue) pointed out earlier, those quotes are what irks me. Unfortunately, there are people out there who use those passages to strip women of their freedom. Kengs has said that he believes it is solely the woman's responsibility to stay in the home and raise the children. He has made no indication that it would be a discussion leading to a mutual conclusion, or that he would offer to stay in the home while his wife continued to work. Let me be the first to say that your willingness to allow your wife the freedom to choose and the fact that you offered to stay home as well, make you a perfect example of how religious people can be progressive as well. It's unfortunate that not everyone is as level-headed as you. Quote
cybercoma Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 Studies of the early church make for interesting reading, and I doubt that cybercoma has ever taken the opportunity to do so.Because I think your attitudes towards women and homosexuals is appalling, that means I haven't studied the early church? Are you kidding me? Any simpleton can understand that treating women today, the way they were treated in the middle ages is idiotic. Quote
charter.rights Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 Oh common...can't you see what they are telling us?! I will have to re-evaluate how I treat my wife...for I never once realized I am an oppressive husband. I mean, I told her "When you are ready for kids, let me know...I have been ready for a long time". I then also said, "If you want to stay home with the kids until they are in school...I 100% support that and we will make it work. But it is your choice". Oh...and I never realized that by me preparing tonights supper last night only to turn on the crockpot this morning was opressive....or for making a majority of the meals for that matter. I am a complete and utter prick. Maybe I should leave my church...because obviously since I am a Christian, I am a lousy husband! Then again, maybe it is just some chucklehead beaking off about something he doesn't understand. If you haven't got kids yet then you're not really as big a prick as you think you are.... charter.rights Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 It is my opinion Keng you use the New Testament as a pathogen/cover/pretext to express your personal subjective feelings about sexuality and women among other things. Actually what Kengs333 does is a type of religious sodomy. He really isn't interested in saving you. He just wants to f@@K with you a bit, and see if you squirm. Really, he so reminds me of this guy that was kicked out of our church for trying to tell God how to run the place. We kicked him out of the congregation and wrote that guy off as a moron. Dkz Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 Thanks for the link DOP. Note the apologist in the comments section who tries to deflect the murderous plot to business as usual."Shame on western media for portraying this all as another dowry story. It's not a dowry - it's a payment to get into the beautiful country of Canada. Men equally pay to marry a Canadian women to get into Canada. It happens all the time. Dowry is just a good word to use to get some publicity about it." Shows how much some people know about the culture of foreign lands. Yet another isolated case. Nice to see you stereotyping a whole community based on one incident. Do I call all whites Savages based on what Paul Bernardo and Robert Pickton did? This is not how most Sikhs in Canada live. Dowry is a dieing thing amongst Canadian Sikhs. Many Sikhs who have spent a good chunk of their life here are anti-dowry and look down upon those who follow it. Dowry is agianst the Sikh religion. It is Sikhs from India who are keeping Dowry alive. Sikhs in India are influenced by the 1 billion Hindus who live in India. Dowry is a Hindu tradition. Quote
Dkz Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 Have you never read a single thing on Sharia Law and how women are treated in Muslim nations? There are also countless "honour killings" on top of women being unfairly stoned to death. Most of these countries such as Saudi Arabia are fully backed by the Government of the US. Quote
Dkz Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 Could 911 have been said to have been done by Middle East savages? If the US just minded its own business maybe 9-11 wouldn't have happened. They have so many people in so many different countries pissed off at them. Here are some reasons why: http://www.krysstal.com/democracy_whyusa02.html Quote
Dkz Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 Maybe followers of other religions don't go around the world blowing people up and severing off heads Ever here of Timothy McVeigh or the IRA?? Quote
Dkz Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 Then why is this kind of violence almost a daily event among Muslims, and rare among others? They get more media attention because they are Muslim. Whites are never reported in such situation as 'whites' or 'christians'. www.voiceonline.com Quote
Dkz Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 I'm sorry, but when someone kills their wife or daughter for not wearing a burqa or hijab, or when women are killed for being raped, or when women are killed for dating men of other faiths, how can you sit here and claim it's not religiously or culturally motivated? That person believes in a God and thinks he knows that God's mind. When the woman steps out of line, without even thinking, he believes he has a God given right to put her in line. Often times, the woman is murdered so the family and men can show that they put God before all else. It may very well be culturally motivated. There is no way that it can be religiously motivated. No religion tells you to go and kill people. No religion tells you that a hijab must be worn at all times. Before opening your mouth at least take the time to find out what a religion says about something. Do some research. Bring religion into the equation and demand faith over reason and you severely distort people's concepts of right and wrong. Just like Christians on the Abortion issue. Quote
Dkz Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 Do some homework on legal and illegal combatants and the Geneva Conventions. The Geneva Conventions are clear that P.O.W's are not to be tortured. Bush thinks by calling them something else and jailing them outside of US soil that he can do whatever he wants. The rest of the world looks upon it as what it is: Torture and a violation of the Geneva Conventions. If the US doesn't follow international treaties then why should anyone else? Does one have to be "white" to be a Canadian? No. The point I've been trying to make is that anyone with Citizenship in Canada no mattter if they are Native or if they're 20th generation here or just 3 years, they all equal as Canadians regardless of religion, and race. Some people here have this thinking that since they are white they are the only `Canadians`. See US Constitution.....it is about 200 years older than yours. We have different histories and different countries. The Head of State of Canada is Queen Elizabeth the Second. We have a Constitutinal Monarchy. The US is a Republic. 2 very different governments. Dkz Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 There are also more Arabs in the USA.....by far. They immigrate by choice...like millions of others (including Canadians). You see, there are reasons why there are 300,000,000 Americans and only 35,000,000 Canadians. 3 million arabs (most of whom are christian) out of 300+ million people in the US. Canada has a smaller population. I would hate to be a Muslim or Arab living in the US of A today: http://www.hanania.com/hatevictims.html http://www.pluralism.org/research/profiles...p?profile=74090 Even Sikhs and Hindus who are different from Muslims are getting attacked and killed in the US. Dkz Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 I'm sure that can happen, however, how is the cashier to know the person is a 3rd generation Canadian? People act according to their experiences, and I very rarely run into a non-white who can speak English properly. Most of the non-whites I encounter speak a variety of "taxicab" English. I'm sure it's the same with him. The fact is the vast majority of non-whites are first generation immigrants. The cashier just assumed from the person's skin colour that they don't have anything in common and probably don't speak good english. That is racial profiling and against the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. It depends on where you live. In places like Toronto and Vancouver where half the population are visible minority, I am sure there are more than enough coloured people who speak accentless english. I don't have a problem with them not becoming Tom and Chris overnight. I have a problem with them being here for thirty years and not speaking English. I have a problem with them sending their teenage children "home" for a "proper" mate, and then raising the next generation as foreigners, not Canadians - and then sending THEM "home" for a "proper" mate all over again to raise the 3rd generation as foreigners. And yes, they can keep to their foreign ways, and foreign dress if they want. But I am a Canadian. I prefer to be with Canadians. According to the law by doing what they are doing, they are equally as Canadian as you and I. They are doing nothing wrong. I don't agree with it myself but the laws of this land which are entrenched into the Consititution and Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Multiculturalism is the law of this land. What Trudeau introduced to this country is exactly what you don't like. You can either change or deal with it. How do you know how many cheats and welfare cases are white and non white? Oh I admit the great majority of the PEOPLE in this country are white, so I suppose it would stand to reason that the majority of criminals and welfare cases would also be white. But it seems that visible minorities account for a far higher percentage of both groups than their numbers would statistically warrant. I have been to public housing areas, and the population is closer to 80% non-white in all of them. As for violent crime, street crime, well, what is there to say? The numbers are vastly disproportionate, and mostly coming from certain immigrant ethnic groups. No. As a percentage per capita Whites account for the highest amount of crime. I can provide stats for you. I have in the past researched this subject in detail. Just look at prison populations for example which are almost all white. When an Indo-Canadian or Chinese-Canadian committs even a petty crime it is front page news and their creed, religion, ethnicity, etc. all get published. When a white does a crime, rarely is his religion or ethnicity ever reported. Petty crimes by white people rarely make the front page news. Quote
Dkz Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 Their lands wasn't stolen. It was simply taken away by a stronger group. There were no international laws at the time, and the natives interacted in much the same way with each other, making war on their neighbours, the strong taking from the weak. Like I said earlier in a post on this thread, if you want we can get into the rights and wrongs of Native treaties but I would rather start another separate thread for that. Many treaties have not been honoured where the land was supposed to be given back. At least 1/3 of British Columbia falls into this category. Quote
Dkz Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 The majority has always been a bit supine at asserting its right not to be victimized by reverse racism. Just ask English-speaking Quebeckers or even Ontarians or New Brunswickers. That is not racism. French speaking Quebeckers of French origin and English speaking of British origin Quebeckers are of the same race. Quote
Dkz Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 However, honor killings are far from isolated. It's a real problem, and until it's addressed, it will remain a problem that will only only get worse. Denying it doesn't make it not so I'm not denying that its not a problem, but in the context of other problems prominant amongst white America such as being gay, polygamy, having kids out of wedlock and divorce it ranks somewhere in there. As long as Islamic nations let people get away with it, one cannot separate honor killings from Islam. As long as Muslims in other western nation are engaging in honor killings, one cannot separate honor killings from Islam. Most of these countries where these honor killings occurr (esp Pakistan) have governments fully backed by the USA. Quote
Dkz Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 If this is what it sounds like - a threat - where does it say anywhere on this Board you have the RIGHT to not be offended by the opinions posted here.Quite frankly this racist labelling works both ways and from these posts I would suggest there is more than a little reverse racism being flung around at the 'white' posters. I don't see any of them making threats of filing complaints. Take it for what you want. Racism is against the law. There are Hate crime laws in this country and they extend to the internet too. Quote
Dkz Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 No, but Christians arrested McVeigh, prosecuted him, judged him, and executed him. Can you say likewise for Pakistani and Yemeni prison officials who regularly let murderers such as the "people" who beheaded Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl "escape"? That is the fault of the US-backed dictator Musshraff who did not take action against those people. Just like he isn't doing anything to find the killers of Bhutto. You've totally confused me now. Is a hijab a "belief" or an artifact? To some muslims, they have a belief that the hijab has to be worn by females at all times. Others who are more moderate in their beliefs don't care for it. Like like there are Christian and Jewish extremists and moderates, there are moderates and extremists amongst Muslims too. Learn some capitalization. Also, the US and Canada have similar records of deaths in wars with natives. Your country has "residential schools" but I don't hold that against current Canadians. Why do you hold Americans responsible for activities that occurred more than 150 years ago? Taking actions for both Canadians and Americans out of context is grossly unfair. There may have been good reasons for each war, i.e. unprovoked attacks by Indians on settlers. The history of how the US came to be what it is today is a topic that deserves a thread of its own. Let me leave you with this link and you can read for yourself the carnage left behind by post WWII US imperialism: http://www.krysstal.com/democracy_whyusa02.html In the history of the world the US is the only country to use a nuclear bomb on another country and they did it twice and acted like nothing happened. Look up Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Chavez may have been "democratically" elected but as President he is acting as a dictator, squeezing the life out of the opposition and private industry. He is immiserating his own people in order to strut the world stage. Point being that he was elected democratically. Very much unlike Bush who was appointed by a judge. As I've said over and over, notwithstanding whoever Tarek Fatah is, the silence of the Muslim world to these "isolated incidents" has been deafening, and this father has received a lot more covert sympathy than Picton has. The media is really good at showing the side of extremism. They never show how moderates are denouncing such acts. Tarek Fatah is a major Muslim leader in this country who represents moderates. He denounced it like there was no tommorow. The countries where the Guantanamo inmates come from never tortured anyone? Do beheadings count? It doesn't matter what they might have done. The US unilaterally attacked the countries that they were in without provokation and then violated their rights as P.O.W.'s that are guaranteed under the Geneva Conventions that the US has signed for. Sure could have foold me. I don't need to convince you or anyone else. Learn how US voting works. When you haven't tried my patience as badly I'll explain the formula that "we the people" worked out in 1787. It actually works. It is a joke that the person (Al Gore) who won the majority of the votes was not made the President of the US. I spit on such a process. That is not democracy. Quote
Dkz Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 (edited) Nobody cares because the people who are denied entry don't suit an agenda. Canada's immigration laws at the time were setup to not allow non-whites into the country and specifically targetted potential immigrants from India. If that wasn't outright systematic racism then what is? If nobody cared then why did the Government of Canada publicly apologize a few years ago? Compensation was also given to descendents of some of the people turned back. Same thing with done with Chinese immigrants who were forced to pay a 'head tax' and also forced to work on the railways of this country. It's clear why you're so outraged by that incident, just as it's clear why you're not outraged by the refusal of others to enter this country, or, for that matter, the fact that Christians are being beaten, mutilated, raped, murdered throughout the Middle East and the government of Canada is doing NOTHING about it either. So please spare us your biased indignation, your constant slagging and disrespecting of Canada. 1 Christian by the name of 'George Bush' has incited extreme hatred of the West amongst Muslim extremists after be unilaterally invaded and occupied Iraq and Afghanistan. How stupid was he to attack Aghanistan, a country where the government (Taliban) was setup and funded by the ISI (Pakistan's intigellence agency) and full backing from the CIA itself? It was 19 hijackers/suicide bombers of 9-11 and Bin Laden himself who are from Saudia Arabia but the Saudis were not attacked because the US is propping up their unpopular government. Many of those same extremists are also unhappy with the US meddling in the int ernal affairs of other mid-east countries. At this moment the US is either directly or indirectly propping up unpopular puppet governments in Aghanistan (drug smuggling warlords run most of the country and the puppet Karzai runs Kabul), Pakistan,Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia. If the US believes so strongly in democracy, then why not hold public elections in Pakistan,Iraq,Afghanistan Then again Bush wasn't elected into office either. He was appointed. Dkz Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 http://www.sikh-history.com/sikhhist/event...magatamaru.html Killings of Kamagata Maru Passengers In the year 1900 the census reported 2050 people from India on the North American continent. The majority of these people were Punjabis who had settled in Canada. They had come with the hope of finding work so that they could improve their economic situation from what it had been in the Punjab. Upon arrival in Canada they encountered numerous hardships and discrimination. Canadians wanted the "brown invasion" to stop. They felt that the growing number of Indians would take over their jobs in factories, mills and lumber yards. It was these insecurities which led British Columbia to pass stringent laws discouraging the immigration of Indians to Canada. Indians had to have at least $200 on their person to enter British Columbia and had to have come via direct passage from India. These were very unreasonable laws as the average Indian only earned about ten cents a day. The Canadian government was also pressuring steamship companies to stop selling tickets to Indians. In 1907 a bill was passed denying all Indians the right to vote. They were prohibited to run for public office, serve on juries, and were not permitted to become accountants, lawyers or pharmacists. All this was done to stop the "brown Invasion." On the other hand Japanese and Chinese were immigrating in unlimited numbers. In 1914 the Komagata Maru was an outright challenge to these exclusionist laws. The Komagata Maru was a Japanese steamliner chartered by an affluent businessman, Gurdit Singh, to bring Indian immigrants to Canada. The ship's route departed from Hong Kong, stopped in Japan and then headed to Canada. Its passengers included 376 Indians, all Punjabis, among whom 340 were Sikhs, 12 Hindus, and 24 Muslims. The ship was eventually turned back at Vancouver where landing was refused, and terminated eventually at Calcutta. "Bhai Gurdit Singh, Bhai Daljit Singh and his friend Bhai Vir Singh from Ferozepur were staying in the Sikh Temple of Hong Kong in 1914. The story of Chief Justice Hunter's judgment in Victoria, B.C., about the release of 39 Asian Indians was on everybody's lips. The emigrants were overjoyed. Bhai Daljit Singh began selling tickets for departures to Canada. However, the British Government of Hong Kong was watching the activities of Bhai Gurdit Singh because the charter of Komagata Maru was in his name. Two days before the ship was to sail, Bhai Gurdit Singh was arrested by Hong Kong police on the charge of illegally selling tickets for an illegal voyage and the ship placed under police guard. The Sikh Police of Hong Kong were often used to terrorize prospective emigrants. "Bhai Gurdit Singh was released on bail on March 24, 1914. Mr. Severn, chief secretary for the Governor of Hong Kong, was known to Bhai Gurdit Singh while he was in Malaya. Mr. Severn told Singh that he had been waiting instructions from England and Canada, which never arrived. The governor granted Singh permission for passage on April 4, 1914. "That very day Komagata Maru left Hong Kong with 150 passengers. On April 8 at Shanghai, 111 emigrants boarded the ship, and on April 14, at the Port of Moji, 86, at the Yokohama port, 14 more passengers boarded the Komagata Maru totalling 376 passengers. From Moji, Bhai Gurdit Singh took 1500 tons of coal to sell in Canada and had intended to buy lumber from B.C. to sell back in the East. Finally, the Komagata Maru left Yokohama on May 3, 1914. "[There were words of caution from several quarters to the passengers.] Bhai Balwant Singh travelled in the Komagata Maru from Moji to Kobe and explained to the passengers the attitude of the British Government of India, Britain, and Canada towards their mission. Gyani Bhagwan Singh, who was forcibly deported from Canada on November 19, 1913, also the passengers at Yokohama and told them the story of his own deportation. Mahamad Barkatullah, the great teacher, who was professor of Hindustani in the University of Tokyo, also met the passengers of Maru in Yokohama. When Komagata Maru made it to Shanghai, a German cable company sent a message to the German press announcing the departure of the steamer Komagata Maru from Shanghai for Vancouver on April 14 with "400 Indians on board..." "The news was picked up by British press. The Vancouver daily "Province", published the inflammatory news report under the heading of "Boat Loads of Hindus on Way to Vancouver". The British Columbia press began giving such headlines to their articles as "Hindu Invasion of Canada". The news of its departure reached the British Columbia authorities. Their instant reaction was that "Hindus would never be allowed to land in Canada." The Indians who had already settled in Canada had also started to prepare for the arrival of the Komagata Maru. Meetings were held in the Gurdwaras concerning what actions to take. Money and provisions were collected to help the passengers upon their arrival in Vancouver. The entire Indian community in Canada united to fight the opposition. On May 23, 1914, the Komagata Maru reached Vancouver and anchored near Burrard Inlet. Both the Indians and the Canadian authorities had been waiting for it. The Canadians wanted to send the ship back to where it had originated. The Indians on the other side had lawyers, money and other provisions ready to help the passengers. The Canadian authorities did not let the passengers leave the boat claiming they had violated the exclusionist laws. The claim was that the ship had not arrived via direct passage and most passengers did not have the $200 that would have qualified them to enter British Columbia. For two months the passengers of the Komagata Maru, the Indians in British Columbia, and the authorities of British Columbia were involved in a heated legal battle. At the end of the two months only 24 passengers were given permission to legally stay in Canada. On July 23, 1914 the Komagata Maru was forced to leave Victoria harbor and return to Hong Kong. (See Johnston in the bibliography) The Komagata Maru approached Calcutta on September 26, 1914. As it approached Calcutta, a European gunboat signaled the ship to stop. The ship was put under guard and the passengers were held as prisoners. Then the Komagata Maru was taken to a place called Budge Budge, about seventeen miles away from its original destination of Calcutta. These new developments took the passengers of the ship by surprise. After two months of litigation in Canada they were not interested in any new developments of this kind. Upon inquiry by Baba Gurdit Singh as to the change of their course, an official informed him that the passengers were being sent to Punjab via a special train. Many of the passengers did not want to go to Punjab. They had business to attend to in Calcutta, some wished to look for work there, and most importantly, the passengers wanted to place the Guru Granth Sahib, which they had taken with them on their journey, in a Calcutta Gurdwara. The British officials did not care what the passengers wanted. They were going to be put on a train to Punjab and that would be the end of it. But the passengers were adamant on going to Calcutta. They were the rightful owners of the ship and the British officials had no reason to keep them on the ship or send them to Punjab. They felt that some action had to be taken, so they decided to march to Calcutta. Their main purpose on reaching Calcutta was to hand over the holy Guru Granth Sahib and to see the governor. The journey was long and after numerous threats by the police, they were left with no choice but to head back to Budge Budge. At Budge Budge, they were ordered to board the ship once again. The passengers, led by Baba Gurdit Singh, refused. A policeman attacked Baba Gurdit Singh with his baton but was stopped by a fellow passenger. It was at this point that firing started. Baba Gurdit Singh was carried to safety. But not all passengers were to be so fortunate. Twenty-nine fell victim to the bullets of British officials and 20 died. Here was another senseless massacre of innocent Indians at the hands of the British. The was the tragic end of the passengers of the Komagata Maru. The Komagata Maru returned to India's waters on September 26, 1914, leaving behind only twenty-four passengers who could prove residence in Canada. The repercussions of the Government's actions - the Budge Budge riot. The radicalization of those abroad, the vigilante action against informers, the murder of Hopkinson, the execution of Mewa Singh, were overshadowed by the outbreak of World War I, in August 1914. Today the only reminders of this incident are a plaque near the Gateway to the Pacific in Vancouver, B.C.and a memorial plaque at Ross Street Gurdwara, in Vancouver, B.C. Sources. 1. Vig, M. Dkz Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 More Evidence of Canadian Government's racism in the early 20th century: http://www.infoukes.com/history/internment...02/doc-096.html Redress Committee gives Canadian government last chance Written by Christopher Guly The Ukrainian Weekly 24 October 1993 On the eve of the October 25 federal election campaign, the Redress Committee of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress is giving the new government one final chance to settle the settlement claim surrounding the World War I internment of between 3,300 and 5,000 Ukrainian Canadians. Some 16 federal elections ago, the Canadian government branded 80,000 Ukrainian Canadians as "enemy aliens," taking away their right to vote, and compelling them to register and carry identification cards. A member of the National Redress Alliance, the UCC group is joining the Chinese Canadian National Council and the National Congress of Italian Canadians in preparing a submission to the United Nations' Human Rights Commission in Geneva. All three accuse Canada of violating international human rights covenants. The Ukrainian Canadian claim includes the demand for a community fund to be composed of $10 million in compensation for monies confiscated between 1914 and 1920; another for $35 million in lost wages, as estimated in a 1992 Price Waterhouse report; additional funds for loss of homes and savings; and a yet-to-be determined sum for "unjust and wrongful imprisonment." But although former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney promised, on several occasions, to resolve the issue before he left office in June, the Ukrainian-Canadian request remained unsettled. Instead, Mr. Mulroney's Multiculturalism Minister, Gerry Weiner, proposed a formal apology to the Ukrainian-Canadian community in the House of Commons; placement commemorative plaques in national parks where internment camps were located; creation of an interpretive center in Banff national Park, site of the Castle Mountain Internment Camp; and construction of a "Nation Builders Hall of Record" next to the new location for the National Archives of Canada that would serve as a monument to commemorate the nation-building contribution of Canada's ethnic communities. No mention was made of the requested community fund. In response, the UCC committee agreed to the first three offers, but joined the Chinese and Italian communities in withholding its consent for the planned Hall of Record. "When a government makes a commitment to allocate funds, it should complete that process," explained Ihor Bardyn, chairperson of the UCC Redress Committee. The National Congress of Italian Canadians, which has already received an apology from Mr. Mulroney, is seeking compensation for the World War II internment of 700 Italian Canadians. The Chinese Canadian National Council is seeking redress for racist immigration laws between 1885 and 1947 that separated families and imposed a "head tax" on about 81,000 Chinese immigrants arriving in Canada at the turn of the century. Chinese Canadians estimate that $23 million, or $1 billion in today's dollars, was collected. They are not alone in seeking restitution from the Canadian government. The country's German community claims that close to 4,000 German Canadians were interned during the first and second world wars. The Canadian Jewish Congress is seeking compensation for the rejection of a boatload of 907 German Jews during World War II, most of whom died in the Holocaust after the vessel was forced to return to Europe. Similarly, a group of Canadian Sikhs want restitution for a 1914 incident involving a boatload of 367 Sikhs who were denied entry in Vancouver and held without being offered food or water for two months. The German, Jewish and Sikh organizations have accepted Mr. Weiner's spring offer. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian, Italian and Chinese groups are now concerned about the federal government's broken promises concerning the 1988 Japanese Canadian redress package. Under it, Prime Minister Mulroney's government promised to pay $21,000 to each survivor of World War II internment camps holding Japanese Canadians and create a $24 million Canadian Race Relations Foundation. Although about 17,000 Japanese Canadians have been compensated, so far, Prime Minister Kim Campbell's government has not moved to establish the foundation, which was approved by Parliament two years ago. Nor have 700 Canadians held in these camps received any compensation. The Canadian government is also refusing to compensate about 700 Canadian citizens who were stranded in Japan and then prohibited from returning to Canada for four years after the war. Close to 99 percent returned. "The federal government has been very unresponsive," says Van Hori, president of the Toronto chapter of the National Association of Japanese Canadians. Mr. Hori's organization has raised the issue of unresolved redress during the current election campaign. Nor has Ms. Campbell met with the UCC, as the Ukrainian organization had hoped. Neither she nor Mr. Weiner's successor, Heritage Minister Monique Landry, were available for comment. The UCC, along with its Italian and Chinese counterparts, is waiting to see if the new Parliament will move on their requests. If not, Mr. Bardyn says that all three will petition the U.N. One hope might rest in Liberal Opposition Leader Jean Chretién, expected to form the next government after the October 25 vote. In June, Mr. Chretién wrote to Mr. Bardyn: "You can be assured that we will continue to monitor the situation closely and seek to ensure that the government honors its promise." Now that government promise might rest on Mr. Chretién's shoulders. Dkz Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 List of worst Canadian Killers, note all white: http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/p...an-killers.aspx A history of Canadian killers Posted: December 12, 2007, 1:00 PM by Paige Aarhus Crime, News After hearing 10 months of gruesome testimony from more than 100 witnesses, the jury for the Robert Pickton trial began deliberations Friday, Nov. 30, finding the pig farmer guilty on six counts of second-degree murder after nearly a week of deliberation. All told, Pickton has been charged with the murders of 26 women, many of them prostitutes and drug addicts from Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. A second trial for the other 20 victims will likely be delayed by an appeal of the first six convictions. If the Crown got its case right, Pickton could be the worst murderer in Canadian history. On the first day of his trial in January 2007, the prosecution stated he confessed to 49 murders to an undercover police officer posing as a cell mate. The Crown reported that Pickton told the officer that he wanted to kill another woman to make it an even 50, and that he was caught because he was "sloppy." Here's a look at some of Canada's worst, most bizarre and high-profile serial and mass murderers. —Dr. Thomas Neil Cream moved to Canada from Scotland in 1854 and graduated from McGill College in Montreal. Cream would become notorious for his preferred method of dispatching prostitutes and enemies — the good doctor was skilled with poisons, going on a killing spree in Canada, the United States and England. He favoured strychnine and chloroform, and his victims often died in agony. An exact body count isn't known, but Cream was hanged for the murder of four prostitutes in London, 1892. Before his execution he spoke his cryptic last words, "I am Jack," leading some to theorize he was famed murderer Jack the Ripper. —Joseph-Albert Guay was a Quebec City jeweller who planted a bomb on a passenger flight in 1949, killing his wife Rita and 23 other passengers. At the time, it was the worst mass murder in North American history. Guay, a strict Roman Catholic, had fallen in love with a 17-year-old girl but was unable to divorce his wife. Together with clockmaker Genereux Ruest, Guay created a bomb made of dynamite and planted it aboard a flight Rita boarded. Nineteen passengers and four crew members died in the explosion; Guay was arrested two weeks after the crash and sentenced to hang. He was executed in 1951, uttering the last words "Au moins, je meurs célebré," or, "At least I die famous." —Robert Raymond Cook was the last man to be hanged in Alberta, sentenced to death after slaying his father, stepmother and their five children. He bludgeoned his victims to death in 1959, days after being released from prison, and was convicted of the murders 18 months later. He was executed on Nov. 14, 1960. —Wayne Boden's sexual sadism and obsession with biting women's breasts earned him the title of the "Vampire Rapist" in the 1960s and 1970s. He was convicted of murdering four women, all of whom were raped and brutally savaged. Boden was sentenced to four life sentences in 1972, serving his time in the Kingston Penitentiary. He died of skin cancer in March 2006. —Russell Johnson, a.k.a. the "Bedroom Strangler," killed four women in London and Guelph during the 1970s. Johnson was known for climbing as many as 13 stories to hunt his victims down, watching them sleep for hours before he struck. He was found not guilty of murder by reason of insanity, and is now serving time at the Oak Ridge maximum-security facility of the Mental Health Centre in Penetanguishene, Ontario. He has confessed to seven additional slayings and 17 attacks. —Clifford Olson, the self-titled "Beast of British Columbia," had B.C. parents in a panic in 1980 and 1981. Olson kidnapped and gruesomely tortured his victims before murdering them, eventually confessing to killing 11 youths. He was arrested on Aug. 12, 1981, and received a controversial plea bargain, agreeing to show police where unrecovered bodies were buried in exchange for a $100,000 payment to his wife. He was sentenced to 11 concurrent life sentences in Canada's maximum security Special Handling Unit in 1982, and denied parole in 1997 and 2006. —"The alcohol murders" occurred in Vancouver between 1965 and 1988. Gilbert Paul Jordan, known as the "Boozing Barber," was linked to the deaths of 10 women during this time. He was also the first Canadian to use alcohol as a murder weapon. Jordan, a raging alcoholic himself, stalked Native prostitutes in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, paying them to drink heavily with him. Once his victims passed out, Jordan continued to pour liquor down their throats, eventually killing them. Jordan served six years for manslaughter and died in 2006. —The "Monster of the Miramichi," Allan Legere, escaped custody from a New Brunswick penitentiary in 1989 while serving a life sentence for the murder of a shopkeeper. During his seven months on the lam, he committed rape, arson and four more murders. N.B. residents were terrorized during the seven-month spree; gun sales rose and Halloween trick-or-treating was cancelled that year. A $50,000 reward was offered for his capture, and Legere was caught after one of the largest manhunts in Canadian history. He is currently one of only 90 prisoners held in the penitentiary's Special Handling Unit. —The "Montreal Massacre" was one of the most infamous mass murders in Canadian history. Marc Lepine, known as a violent and mentally unstable misogynist, burst into an engineering class at École Polytechnique in Montreal on Dec. 6, 1989. The 25-year-old separated the men from women, screamed, "I hate feminists," and opened fire on the women, killing six and wounding three. He then stalked through other areas of the building, killing a total of 14 women before turning the gun on himself. —The "Happy Face Killer" committed all of his murders south of the border, but Keith Hunter Jesperson was born in Chilliwack, B.C. He murdered eight people between 1990 and 1995 in Nebraska, California, Florida, Washington, Oregon and Wyoming. Apparently seeking publicity for his "accomplishments," Jesperson started a letter-writing campaign in 1994. The traveling killer was alternately arrogant and remorseful in his anonymous correspondences to the media and police, always signing the letters with a smiling happy face. He was arrested by American authorities in 1995 and is currently serving a life sentence in Oregon. — William Patrick Fyfe claimed responsibility for the violent murders of nine people in the Montreal area beginning in 1979. He was arrested in 1999 and convicted of five counts of murder. He is currently serving a life sentence in a psychiatric hospital in Saskatchewan. —Michael Wayne McGray claimed to have killed 16 people in Halifax, Saint John, Montreal, Newfoundland, Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver and Seattle. McGray was convicted of four counts of murder in 2000 and, in May 2001, Halifax police charged him with the murder of a hitchhiker more than 15 years after her body was found in a ditch near Digby. McGray admitted to stabbing the victim multiple times and dumping her body. He is currently serving concurrent life sentences with no chance of parole for 25 years. —Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka may go down as Canada's most reviled serial killers. The "Ken and Barbie" duo tortured, raped and strangled three victims, including Homolka's sister Tammy Lyn, in the 1990s. Their high-profile trial revealed chilling video tapes of their crimes, and the Canadian public was outraged when Homolka received a "sweetheart deal," serving only 12 years in prison on a conviction of manslaughter. Homolka was released in 2005 and gave birth to a baby boy in February 2007. Bernardo was convicted of the murders and sentenced to life in prison. He was also declared a dangerous offender, making it unlikely he will ever be released. Since his conviction, he has been held in solitary confinement at the Kingston Penitentiary in Kingston, Ontario, for protection from other inmates. [Poison bottle. bush_cheney2004 Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 3 million arabs (most of whom are christian) out of 300+ million people in the US. Canada has a smaller population. I would hate to be a Muslim or Arab living in the US of A today:http://www.hanania.com/hatevictims.html http://www.pluralism.org/research/profiles...p?profile=74090 Even Sikhs and Hindus who are different from Muslims are getting attacked and killed in the US. Hmmm...America has more Sikhs and Hindus than Canada too.....imagine that. Ever wonder why? Quote Economics trumps Virtue.
Dkz Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 (edited) Hmmm...America has more Sikhs and Hindus than Canada too.....imagine that. Ever wonder why? Sikhs in US are not in significant numbers anywhere as a single group with the exception of parts of California. Sikhs in Canada are good numbers in Toronto and Vancouver and most other major Canadian cities. According to the latest census, Punjabi (language of Sikhs and other people who are Punjabi speaking but follow different religions) is 6th most spoken language in Canada. We have had a premier of BC province who was a Sikh (equivalent to Governor in the US). We have had several Federal Ministers who were Sikh (equivalent to Secretaries of Defence, State, etc. in US but in Canada we elect them). The status of Sikhs in both countries is a little bit different. In places like Vancouver some areas have schools were 99% of the kids are Sikh and all the street signs are in punjabi. Toronto and Vancouver are both cities where 1/2 the population are visible minorities. In Vancouver visible minorites are more or less split 50/50 between Sikh-Canadians and Chinese-Canadians. Sikhs in Canada have not been killed or threatened for 'looking like' Arabs and Muslims by ignorant white people who can't tell the difference. Sikhs in Canada cannot be hassled at airports in the same way that Sikhs in the US are because we have something called 'The Charter of Rights and Freedoms'. Sikhs in Canada have also founded towns in the past.: http://www.multiculturalcanada.ca/ecp/content/sikhs.html Edited January 3, 2008 by Dkz Quote

Still more Sikhs and Hindus in the US of A....between 500,000 and 1,000,000, but you say they are not signficant. So what does a much smaller number in Canada mean.....they are more in-significant? Why are there more Sikhs and Hindus in evil and wicked America? There are hundreds of Gurdwaras in the United States today. I work with Sikhs and Hindus every day....they like Seinfeld.
