August1991 Posted December 5, 2007 Report Posted December 5, 2007 (edited) This is a new expression that describes, I think, many Quebecers who vote for the ADQ but also for the PQ. They don't want independence but they want defence of the Quebec nation and the French language. They may have voted yes in previous referenda but they are comfortable with a Quebec within Canada. They live primarily outside of Montreal but Montreal also has many. They tend to be conservative in that they don't adopt any new idea simply because it is new. We have seen many in presentations before the Bouchard-Taylor commission. I think Harper may benefit from these voters who, all things said, represent possibly a majority of Quebec voters. Harper has been very well advised in his dealings with Quebec. This comes at the same time as 14 authors have published a book about the Federalist Project in Quebec: The collection of essays "Reconquerir le Canada: Un nouveau projet pour la nation quebecoise" (Reconquering Canada: A New Project for the Quebec Nation) is edited by Andre Pratte, Montreal daily La Presse's chief editorial writer. The contributors -- including Quebec Intergovernmental Affairs minister Benoit Pelletier, former federal justice minister Martin Cauchon, and retired astronaut turned Liberal candidate Marc Garneau -- are urging Quebec to play a bigger role within the Canadian federation. "It's time for Quebecers to play on the ice with Canada. We can't be on the sidelines all the time and look at others play and say once in a while 'pass me the puck'," said Pratte, who also contributed to the volume.
