Topaz Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 After watching the question period today, I don't think anything is going to get done and no matter what the cons say, they are helping to govern. When asked questions that I wanted to hear their reasons to, all they did was to reverse the question they were asked. Yeah, the Cons thought this was funny and they laugh but I don't think taxpayers pay for jokes!! There are people suffering in this country and there's games being played. Jobs are going out the back door and not all can move to Alberta and get one! Maybe if more people from the East out west, the west would become LIB! They said today that the accountability reform, well the person who heads this, ISN'T accountable to ANYONE!! (Has Harper been talking to Bush again??)As the minister's said how can they asked questions when Harper has made impossible! Quote
Michael Hardner Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 Question period is an anachronism, and to my mind the chief reason why politicians are reviled by normal people. The entire political process is outdated, redundant in some places and lacking in process in others. I'd like to see my MP meeting in my riding more often. Any other suggestions ? Well, I don’t agree that question period is an anachronism. I think the problem is the public’s reliance of the 15 second sound bite. We live in a society where so called “reality television” is all the rage and yet there is nothing more real than Question Period. If the 308 members of our legislature believed for a moment that a good chunk of potential swing votes were watching, they’d behave quite differently. Quote

I have watched all too many QPs from the gallery, and let me assure you that they are a series of 15 second soundbytes in real life too. Quote
Michael Hardner Posted October 23, 2007 Report Posted October 23, 2007 I think you are correct. It seems to me that legislation has to go through a lot of analysis by dullards before it goes anywhere. Quote Looks like someone has a new patronizing catch phrase ! Michael Hardner

Our government and Parliamentarians in general think we should respect them, when in reality, how can you respect anyone that acts as childish, obstructionist and downright dishonest as they do during Question Period. If they showed some respect themselves, some decorum that befits a Parliamentarian and honesty in both asking and answering questions maybe then, respect could be given. Quote

I think those unpalatable characteristics are present far beyond question period. QP is just the time when it's most publicly displayed. Quote

(Has Harper been talking to Bush again??)As the minister's said how can they asked questions when Harper has made impossible!Good post. Isn't that the recipe for an election? Why aren't your Liberal and NDP buddies voting the government down? Quote Free speech: "You can say what you want, but I don't have to lend you my megaphone."
