  1. Two reasons. One, I'm thinking of the CBC panel on this issue the other day, where the NDP guy was demanding Jason Kenney have a meeting with a veil wearing woman, sit down with her face to face to find out why she wears one. Face to face. It's part of our lexicon, part of our culture. We want to see people's faces, to tell who we're dealing with. Second. In addition to women who have simply been wearing these things all their lives in their home countries and are just used to it, we see a lot of younger Muslim women who were brought up in Canada also wearing them, either because they're pressured by relatives, or as a social/political statement about their dedication to Islam. I see that as more of a rejection of Canadian society, a blatant statement which says "I am not one of YOU!" And I don't like it. If you didn't want to be one of us you should have stayed the hell home.
  2. Just don't ask me to respect the Batman wearing guy as anything more than a strange oddity.
  3. On a scale of 100, where 100 is perfect freedom and equality we're probably somewhere in the 90s. Most Muslim countries are somewhere in the teens.
  4. Sudan would force black people to be slaves. We would force them not to be. You're right! We're just as bad!
  5. Yeah, Iran and Saudi Arabia are constantly having to deal with gay refugees from Canada, sobbing about their persecution...
  6. You want us to run society like the Muslims do? Have separate rooms for men and women? Or maybe we could let the women be sworn in in the same room, but they'd have to be in the back behind a screen so their presence doesn't offend the men.
  7. A number of commentators on the Right have made that observation. Liberals just can't seem to find anything wrong with someone if they're a minority. Doesn't matter if, as a general cultural rule they don't believe in equality of the sexes, think gays should be in prison, and have a lackluster support for most of our other values. If a Lutheran or a Catholic expressed the kinds of social beliefs most of the Muslim community believe in most Liberals would sneer at them in contempt and call them bigots and homophobes and misogynists. But since they're minorities they get excused.
  8. Speaking of breaking rules. The use of "Con" for Conservatives is against the rules, and you do it consistently. Maybe you should consider no longer breaking the rules...
  9. Answer to my question above: “I tell you again that the niqab has nothing to do with Islam and it is only a mere custom. I understand the religion better than you and your parents.” The head of Al-Azhar, the highest seat of learning in the Sunni world, Grand Mufit Sheikh Mohamed Sayyed Tantawi
  10. “I tell you again that the niqab has nothing to do with Islam and it is only a mere custom. I understand the religion better than you and your parents.” - An old man ordering a young schoolgirl to remove her face covering. Guess who it was. Hint, not Jason Kenney.
  11. I read it exactly the opposite. It seems glaringly obvious to me that the law was about excluding or bringing in new grains for the board to market, not eliminating the board, or eliminating its monopoly powers.
  12. The power to force people to market their wheat through them. They're eliminating the monopoly powers of the board.
  13. And free money, since these agents were filing phony tax claims and passing on benefit cheques to Lebanon every month.
  14. Canadians don't hate Lebanese. They hate phony Canadians. They hate fraud artists who prey on their good will. They won't make excuses for criminal behavior just because of brown skin - unlike others.
  15. Duped? They lied on their applications, flew over to make a visit and promise they were going to live here, then flew home and let their agent file false tax claims so they would get benefit cheques. And it's 6700. To start. Boot them. ASAP, then start in on the tens of thousands of other so-called Canadians who need to be evicted.
  16. I have no doubt that for every phony Canadian from Lebanon there are ten or twenty phony Canadians from Hong Kong and the rest of China.
  17. No one has yet explained how it is possible for any law in Canada to be sacrosanct - other than the constitution. Because as far as I understand it any new law can do away with whatever came before it - other than the constitution, which specifically says no other law is superior. The entire basis for parliament is that whatever parliament says, that goes - other than what the constitution says.
  18. Herman Cain? Riiiight. I can see it now, a hundred thousand Democratic commercials featuring Republican Presidential candidate Cain telling unemployed Americans "If you're unemployed, it's your fault!" That's really gonna go over well in bad economic times.
  19. I've caught bits and pieces of Ezra's show now and then. Nothing about it strikes me as insane. I think what you really mean to say is that if anyone doesn't agree with your political and social views they are insane. Have I got that right?
  20. You haven't demonstrated that there is any environmental destruction in Alberta.
  21. And does the Pope still advocate a Nazi ideology? Did he continue to advocate it relentlessly for years after the war ended? Khadr has not rejected Islamism. He continues to believe in it.
  22. When was the last time we fought a war against an organization as opposed to a country? He is a soldier in an organization, Al Quaeda, which has never surrendered. Therefore, if you people who want him declared a prisoner of war had your way he'd stay in prison forever, or until Al Quaeda officially surrenders.
  23. And, like, just because you return fire on police when they're trying to gun you down after you shoot up a bank and try to get off with your loot, that's not a crime or anything. You're just defending yourself! It's not like I don't feel sorry for the cops who die, but hey, it's sure not murder, right?!
  24. Khadr was a volunteer member of a violent terrorist organization which was responsible for the World Trade Center attack, which was an attack on civilization, and in which a number of Canadians died. For that, Khadr and all members and supporters of Al Quaeda deserve a very quick death.
  25. He was not a citizen of Afghanistan, and the army he was fighting was made up of Afghanis. So in point of fact he was a member of a violent foreign terrorist group which was fighting a native revolution which was aided by the Americans. And the fact he was 15 when he was indoctrinated as an Islamist is beside the point. Do we forgive a child rapist because his actions are the results of him being abused when he was a child? Khadr is what he is, an Islamist who is violently opposed to everything we stand for.
