Do you think the government should force the Fast Food industry to put warnings on their food's packaging, considering the wide-spread Obesity in Canadian Society? Considering the cost to the tax payers for treating Obesity and related health problems, should this industry be held up to the same standards as the Tobacco industry?

Canada Has No National Housing Strategy
ndpnic replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Housing in Canada, because of our climate, is a FEDERAL issue because it affects EVERY SINGLE Canadian! There are a lot of catch-22's in the present welfare system wich prevents needy people from being able to collect benefits. If u loose your wallet for example, and have no ID, there is not access to welfare, shelters, etc. Your comments Choke, make me cringe at their Ignorant, Uninformed and Elitest tone! I am ashamed to call you a fellow Canadian!! Not all homeless are lazy, materialistic drug addicts!!! The average Canadian fam is 2 paychecks from homelessness. Have you ever bothered to check the stats, or go around where ever u live to see how the other side lives? Ever heard their stories? Or are your views narrow minded due to lack of knowlege and understanding of other ways of life other than your own? -

Unionize Wal-Mart or Let's Boot Them From Canada

I don't see many kids working at Walmart. I see alot of seniors and working parents trying to earn enough money to support themselves. -
Unionize Wal-Mart or Let's Boot Them From Canada

I take it you have never worked at one of these places. They don't "have it good". Minimum wages are never "good"! -
I would love to have Universal Health care in Canada! We don't though. We have a corrupted 2 tier system now. What gives Anti-Smokers the right to say they don't want to pay for Smoking related illnesses, but gives no one else the right to name illness/proceedures, like Obesity?

We should Sit At Peace Table or Watch PM
ndpnic replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'd say you phrased that rather nicely! -
I think, technically, there are 100's of cultures in Canada. We are the country that allows immigrants to come live here, and still practice thier former Cultural pactices and beliefs.
-
Is anti- Canadianism and anti-Capitalism the same thing?

I find it truly amazing the contadictions in Canadian Health care. We don't want to pay the tab for Smoking related illnesses, but we'll pay for a female to have 100 abortions if they want, no questions asked. We pick up the tab willingly for the treatment of Obesity related illnesses though. I don't think my tax dollars should have to pay for someone because they've chosen not to exercise and eat Super sized takeout portions. Not when our Health care system doesn't cover life saving drugs like Remicade for illnesses like Chrons disease!!!

Did you try Sgro's Chief of Staff? Nothing like displaying your lack of compassion, eh! ndpnic seems to be familiar with strip joints and their managers. Your right I do. When I was 22 my first husband walked out on me and left me with $300.00 to my name. Had to pay the bills, so I did spend a year as a stripper. Thought it would be better then taking your money via welfare!

I've sent my story to the media. Guess it,s just not important!

Apparently NOT everyone know minimum wage is for part-time and students. Most employers pay $7 across the board to start. I live in Simcoe, Ont., and I cahllenge ANYONE to come here and find FULL-TIME employment for the GENERAL populace that pys more than $7. Have u not ever been to a fastfood, coffeeshop, grocery store, drycleaners, etc.....

Sgro Must Step Down; Cdn Gov't Threats
ndpnic replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The importation of strippers needs to stop. Because this has been allowed, strip clubs have turned into brothels. The average strip club pays $60/shift- 8/10hrs. You say "those girls make more money than me!", not true, because everyone coming into the has that attitude, so the girls make noine some nights. Now, girls are actuallt getting thrown out of clubs for refusing to allow customers to touch them. I asked an owner of a club in SImcoe "when did stripper become synonomous with prostitute?", to wich he replied "if men just wanted to see naked women, they could go home and turn on music videos"! More Canadian women would go back to the clubs if owners were required to pay $10/hr, and since they have to claim the income at tax time, they should be entitled to some maternity benefits! -
Thank you so much Eureka! That's the problem though. We have seen social workers, appealed pension rejections, turned to our local MP and MPP. They all gave the same answer " sorry, it's a terrible situation, but there is nothing we can do because people like you aren;t supposed to exist in Canada"! What I need to know is, after you have tried to access the resources out there, but you keep falling outside the norm, WHO /Where do WE turn for help?
-
Not really, as anyone who doesn't have all the goodies that others may have would still consider themselves poor. Compared to other countries; our poor in Canada are NOT opoor. Raising the minimum wage dow not work either as the price of everything rises to pay for this increase in cost to the employer. nothing changes. Only because employers feel they are entitled to all the money. Wonder how they'd make their money if there were no peons? Bigwigs would like silly and useless with no one to produce any products! From the CEO to the sales clerk or line worker, no 1 job is more important. You need everyone to make it work!!!!

Well, how do you define "poverty"?If we define it in relative terms, and I live in a neighbourhood where everyone else wears Gucci but I can only afford Aldo, then I guess I'm entitled to steal. Or, the judge should take into account my relative poverty when deciding my sentence. No, you're not entitled to steal Gucchi. WE are talking about FOOD!!!!!

I guess math was not your strong suit. There are four and one third weeks in a month. Even at only 7 dollars an hour that is an extra 91 dollars a month. No one forces you to stay at a minimum wage job; do they. Can you not find a better job; if not why are you having children. Does your spouse work? Why not. You are responsible for yourself ; the government (we the people) should only help able bodied people on a temporary basis; those who are handicapped or for some reason are mentally or physically unable to work need to get more money to live on; I can see giving more help for a single parent family until the child is of school age. Do you really think $91 makes a noticable difference? I went to college, my hubby to university. I used to work for CAS, and Hubby worked for Wheat Pool. Sometimes my brain litterally get so Swollen, that I have to go on cycles of Prednizone to get the swelling down. Do you know what it;s like to live through a 6 week miagrain? My hubby lost colin to Colitis, and has Crohn's. He has had 1/2 his stomache removed, ond 95% of his bowels. The only drug that works for him is Remicade, which was $6,400 for his last infusion. My spouse does work, he is the head of shipping for a playground manufacturer, and has worked for this company for over 10 years. The problem is he hasn't gotten a raise in almost 5 years, because his employer knows that with his health, his options to leave are very limited. No company that requires a physical will hire him because he has a pre existing crohnic illness, and is ineligable for benefits. Our son was born 5 years ago, before our financial situation turned. And it turned because 2 years ago hubby got sick and it took 4 months of fighting OHIP and his insurance company to pay for the Remicade. He missed work off and on duing this period, lost over 40lbs because all he could eat was canned ckicken noodle soup. You may not care, but if my huuby doesn't get Remicade he will have to go on TPN feeding, nothing to drink or eat EVER AGAIN! We have almost $1000/m in meds, but income is only $1680/m. So you see, we're not sitting on assistance, have never been on it. Hubby takes Percocette every day just to able to go to work. But because of his income of $14/hr, we qualify for no suuport programs. So, we are educated, hubby does work, any more sage advive, caesar? Believe it or not, some people don't need handouts, they need a hand along!!!!!

The surplus is about $7 billion or about $250/Canadian.The best and easiest way to get that money to poor, working Canadians would be to raise the personal exemption or lower the tax rate for on incomes below $30,000. If the government puts the money into providing more services, it will get gobbled up by the bureaucracy. Take a look at Indian and Northern Affairs. Pot of gold, once again. "Eat the Rich".First, your proposal would mostly fall on farmers who would not be able to pass the farm on to their kids. Second, there are too many ways to avoid an inheritance tax. For example, if a living parent buys a car for a child, should that gift be subject to a 10% tax? In any case, think where this would all lead to. If the Left must rely on appeals to religion, it is sure to fail.

Finally, we get a definition. 15.6% of children live in "low-income families". What's a "low-income family"? Dunno. But we do have a definition of "low wage": WTF? By that definition, one third of all employees on an hourly wage would be "low wage". And what's the connection between "hourly wage" and disposable income. Dunno. How many children in Canada live in homes without running water, without a TV, without a telephone? Not many years ago, those items were considered luxuries in Canada. In many countries in the world, they still are. Both the CBC and the Toronto Star throw around statistics that make no sense. I have always suspected that the Left was bad at math. Just because running water is a luxury in some countries DOES NOT mean it's ok in Canada!!!!! I didn't think it was ok for ANY Canadian to live in 3rd world conditions!!! How nice and safe your world must be. Lucky you! Right wingers make me wish we could herd them up and ship them off like England did not the not so long ago past!

I must have missed that period where the NDP held power in Ottawa.... Hopefully you will go on missing it. So far taxpayers haven't been quite dumb enough to let the NDP into office, federally. Don't you mean the GREEDY? Poor people also pay taxes, maybe not as much, but it's more really when you consider what they are left to live on!!!!
-
Apparently not true. Maybe you don't really need it that badly. Most provinces will pay for expensive medicines that are needed. Which is very generous of me, isn't it? Paying for other people's drugs. Hey, welcome to the club. I'm a conservative. My voice is never heard either. And yet, you have a computer? And, I'm betting, a TV, DVD, microwave, etc. So clean up the place more. If you couldn't afford the kid maybe you shouldn't have had it. Or do you think it appropriate to procreate based on the theory your neighbours will be forced to pay for the resulting bills? If you're poor it's most unlikely you are supporting the government at all. The reverse would be more likely. Ever heard of the concept of self responsibility? Ever heard of looking after your own problems? Ever heard of doing the adult thing and taking care of yourself? What you seem to be bitching about is the government isn't taking more money away from me to make your life more comfortable. Excuse me for not crying. What province? Not Ontario. The only program we have the "trillium", will cover my husbands Remicade, but not my Imitrex. Believe it or not, there are actually Canadians that don't fit into nice, neat groups. There are actually Canadians that for one reason or another don't seem to fit in anywhere. that is a serious problem in Canada, and it's getting worse because the 'boomers and the haves refuse to acknowlege this!!!!!

I wish for 1 day every Canadian who works for less then $10/hr would stay home. Imagine all the Greedy ones trying live their day! No Tim Hortons No gas stations No malls No restraunts No taxi service No dry cleaners No office staff No groceries No need of BigWigs I could keep going on if you like. Canadian Society would come to a complete stand still! Maybe it's time to respect and appreciate the Peons!!!!
