I totally agree with you Morgan. If she won, I'd not vote for them. It'd be a complete repudiation of social conservatives in the party. In fact, it would make one think that the PROGRESSIVE conservatives took over the Alliance. She has every right to run, but she deserves a resounding rejection by Conservative members, if the allegations are true. Good lord. Bill Clinton, of all people. That should be enough to let us know where she stands on abortion, gay rights etc. On the other hand, if she has repented of her past behaviour she does deserve forgiveness, (who among us hasn't done some things they are not proud of?) but lets see where she stands. I have this sick feeling that social conservatives would get the short end of the stick should she win.

I've pointed this out before, but you prompted me to mention it again, when you posted those e;lection results. 4.21% for others. Only two other parties ran enough candidates and did well enough to register that kind of support, to wit, the Greens, and the Family Coalition Party. All three established parties should be concerned about that. If both those parties had run a full slate of candidates (FCP ran 51 candidates) the percentage of "other" voters would have been even higher. That combined with a low turnout, show there's an anger out there that says "a pox on both your houses!" some of whom still had enough faith faith in the system to go out and mark their ballot for the FCP or Greens in protest, though most stayed home. Cause for concern. Both of those parti4es now have some results to show which will embolden their current forces, and artract new members. It would not surprise me if they could both win a coupl of seats next time around. The Liberals will muff things up so badly, and there will still be the odour of scandal left over from the PC regime, that it is possible. The FCP had enough money to run radio ads in Ottawa (on CFRA and CHRI) and in Toronto on (CFRB and CJYE) From what I hear , they will have the money to do even more next time based on the encouraging results from this vote.

Barbara Yaffe USED TO BE a respected conservative columnist. She supported Stock Day and the CA in the 2000 election. However, since the bloodless Coup d'état engineered by Paul Martin got underway in aug. 2002, she has been a steadfast mouthpiece for the Martin organization in BC, the way I see it. She has become the champion of gay rights, even to the point of out-queering Svend Robinson. She was even suggesting there is no place in parliament for MPs like Grant Hill, elsie Wayne, larry Spencer , David Kilgour, Dan McTeague etc, ie all those who she considers homophobic. That borders on totalitarianism, insofar as the only ones who have a right to publicly voice their opinion (shared by many of their constituents, I might add) are those whose public views have passed the political correctness test. As far as I'm concerned, she has lost all credibility as a conservative spokesperson. In my view she's a bought & paid for martinite, and I wouldn't give you a piece of dog turd for anything she's written in the last two years.

Howard Dean's Candidacy
Neal.F. replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
The Klintons dropped the ball. Wesley Clark's name isn't even on the ballot in NH! he is counting on Arizona and some southwest states, but by then it will be too late. The republicans are already preparing for a Dean nomination, and are salivating. They will absolutely pummel him. Dean will win a handful of extremely liberal states, such as new jersey, Minnesota, massachusetts, Vermont.... not many more than that. The only reason he might do better than Mondale or McGovern is that he has a bit more of a personality! (Mondale only won his home state of Minnesota, while McGovern only won Massachusetts) -
But there is no CA Party anymore. Nor a PC Party. Seems all hands agreed that one office suited the combined needs better than the other.

Absolutely right Goldie, but I think that your speculation will be openly discussed before too long...as soon as enough BC Liberal blood spills that it would be believable. I told Martinite Liberals of my acquaintance months ago, that though Paul Martin looked like he was getting a free pass to the PMO, once he got there, he would have to walk through one minefield after another that the Chretien people would lay out for him. They are determined that he will be the next John Turner. And they are experienced, after all, the Chretien gang were the ones that did their damndest to ensure that Turner would never live at 24 Sussex. (strangeley enough, Martin kept one Denis Coderre in Cabinet. Coderre, in case you didn't know was one of those Chretien loyalists who could never accept the 1984 leadership defeat, and as Young Liberal President, did a spectacular job of advancing Chretien's interests while Turner floundered.) I've also said here before that we will soon see that Martin does not have the same teflon coating the new occupant of Trudeau's old offices at Heenan Blaikie had.

To further illustrate Rightturn's point about the intellect of the average liberal voter, I believe that the biggest reason why Bill Klinton got elected in the first place was because of his appearance onsome dumbass late night liberal talk show (Conservatives don't watch those shows because most of actually have to get up to work the next day) wearing shades and playing the sax. Liberals don't care about the issues, or consequences to actions. All they care about is having fun (their idea of having fun is behaving stupidly on beaches, going to Raves, and other idiocy that involves having sex whenever and wherever and with whomever they want). and watching moronic reality TV shows and stupid sit-coms. More of them know who Paris Hilton is than Saddam Hussein. That's why Liberal talk radio will fail. they can't appreciate the mastery of the spoken word, since in the view of a liberal, words can mean whatever you want them too. Liberals need pictures to help them along. Ever seen a liberal who knows how to turn the band switch to AM anyway?

The way things look, should Dean win the nomination, there probably won't be much left of the Dumbocrud party to make it worthwhile for Hitlery Klinton to run. I have been told by NY Dumbocruds, that as much as they'd like her for president, that they realize it won't happen. Hitlery would be good for 150 electoral college votes...at best. It's not because she's a woman, but rather such a polarizing figure. she would not have a prayer in the "red States". These same Dumbocrud supporters said that the first woman president, whoever she may be, will have to be a conservative. Come to think of it, even oif any of the other cast of idiots running for the nomination win, the Dumbocruds will still be in rough shape in 2008.

Communo, That ruling on kleagl downloading just goes to show how morally bankrupt that Canada has become since that bastard Trudeau nearly communized us, and foisted the Charter of rights and Freedomns on this country. TRhe only rights and freedoms it enshrines are the right of any group to go to court and use the state apparatus to oppress other citizens. It still doesn't change the FACT that you are taking someone's work without compensationg them. It is still stealing. Please explain how Canada will benefit by taking land back from americans by any means. If American owners can make it more productive, why would you want to? As for NATO, let me assure you that if a rogue government such as that you propose ever came to power, steps would be taken against them. It would be simple enough to get such a Canada kicked out of NATO.

Gugsy, where did you get the idea that my objection to pornography was strictly on religious grounds. Read the article linked to the word PORNOGRAPHY in my earlier post. It is NOT religious. Porn in addition to destroying families, also treats its subjects like pieces of meat. completely dehumanizes them.

No if ands or "butts" ???? I would also include Pornography in outlawed addictive substances.

Hey Commie, Illegal downloading is a rip-off of the musicians. They have to make a living too. they do so by royalties on music sold. If you want your favourite musician to be able to feed his family, then don't rip him off! There are costs associated with producing the music, and by acquiring the music via cyberthieves like Napster, and its clones, you sir, are aiding and abetting a criminal, and guilty by association of theft. Buy the bloody CD! Or if you really dowant to download and burn, do it via legitimate services that compensate the artist and publisher. Land reform? Are you Carolyn PArrish? The Americans who own land here did not steal it, they PAID FOR IT, with earned dollars , in most cases, not govt. handouts. Do you agree then, that land owned by canadians in the US should be expropriated and redistributed to US citizens? Please Explain how you would increase production of esential goods primarily in the maritimes, especially when you will have pissed offthe biggest investor in the economy, the US, by expropriating its citizens land? Oh I get it... by nationalizing the US holdings, we anger them so much that they invade, and kick every socialist ass in this country from here to Resolute Bay! Now onto legalizing pot and taxing the hell out of it. Typical Liberal solution. tax the pennies on the eyes of the dead, to paraphrase George Harrison (the intelligent Beatle). Seriously, the government is just hoodwinking the public when it legalizes vices. sure the balance sheet looks great, but the damage booze, drugs, smokes and gambling do to individuals and families paralyzes the health system, and costs society... but we know that government likes this, because lawyers get rich on lawsuits and divorces, and psychoanalysts practices get a big boost as well. It's not Government of the people by the people for the people... It's government of the people by the lawyers for the lawyers. A good way to make the governments books look goodwould be to do so legitimately, ie: Cut spending to ALL unneccesary programs and let government concern itself with only the bare minimum. Most legitimate services can be provided by private enterprise more efficiently and at lower cost. This means no more plum jobs for Liberal party hacks, but that's just too darn bad. Close the casinos, and mop up the drug trade etc, and you'll have a better, happier country, and a lower divoirce rate. Now moving on to your point about mokers having to pay additional to access the health care system... now where have I heard that one before? Why, mr compassion himself, Gary Mar the Alberta health minister! When did he become a fellow traveller? Why don't we start by outlawing smoking, I mean it's banned in most public places anyway, there's hardly anywhere a smoker can light up these days. Now tat will save onhealth care. But to bill some and not others is not right. However, if health care is privatized, insurance companies may have a say in the matter. I agree with an elected senate, but it should be elected every 4 years along with the lower house. More on that later.

National Atheism, Canadian Pride

Daniel, I think it is a human right for a businessman to either contract with or not contact with any potential client, for any reason, after all, it's his business. As for the B&B in PEI, the same principle applies. The owners of the B&B have the right to refuse any potential guest they wish. Anyone, for any reason. after all they OWN it. Now, it is my understanding that these two homosexuals were offered accomodations, but they would have been required to have separate bedrooms. I agree with the stand of the B&B owners, and would even go so far as impose the same type of conditions (ie: separate bedrooms) for a heterosexual unmarried couple. These individuals were targeted BECAUSE their refusal was on religious grounds. Had they refused on other grounds, there never would have been an issue Why should a town have to issue a parade permit to anyone who asks? The Mayor was not elected to be Santa Claus, but to provide good government and good order. If they refused the KKK or PETA or someone else with an agenda a parade permit there'd have been no issue, rest assured. As for the case of the Catholic school, the kid should have been asked to leave long ago, since he obviously did not agree with the cathechism, and was therefore not in Communion with the magisterium. So tell me... Do "rights" Only cut one way? -

Sirriff, I HAVE heard about Christians being told, effectively to shut up. I have a brother who is a teacher in Ontario, and they are REQUIRED to teach Kwanzaa, but not Christmas. However in Quebec, where atheism or at least hedonism is rampant, there is a generally laissez-faire attitude toward Christianity, instead of outright hostility. Even among socialist Péquistes, there is a respect for what was the belief and gheritage of their parents. At school, the kids have an option of choosing Moral and religious ed, for the secular families, Roman catholicism or Protestant classes, and where numbers warrant jewish ed. IN THE SCHOOLS. However, from what I hear Outside of Quebec, there is an Militant secularist bent. -

Muslims believe that Jesus Christ was the penultimate prophet, and that he lived a life without sin. They have great respect for him. I am on the Board of directors for a community organization which riuns a pre-school which one of my daughters attends. She is one of three non-Muslims (probably the only Christian) in the group of 20 or so. They hactually had a Christmas party, and ALL the Muslims attended and participated fully. It was not a religious gathering in any way, but gifts were given, and there was certainly goodwill everywhere. It was interesting to see a sea of Hijabs at a Christmas gathering that called itselfd such. -
With reference to my earlier post, in all seriousness, I generally oppose the DP, if only because of the possibility of wrongful conviction, and the fact that wealth can purchase superior counsel, which means that for the same crime a rich, well connected guy can walk while he who is less well off, and doesn't know the right people has to prepare for a one way trip to the great beyond.... Until there's a way to guarantee equal treatment under the law to the priveleged and the not so, we can't have it on the books. I nevertheless think that severe should be meted out to some of the filthy sleazeballs cited earlier (especially harsh treatment to drug dealers, the worst of the lot) and the appeals process cannot be allowed to drag out. punishment should be swift and sure. I don't have a problem with caning for drug dealers, and castration for sex offenders, for example.

It was Kinsella as head of the Liberal War Room who orchestrated the most ugly, nasty and negative campaign ever seen in Canadian political history, and I believe his tactics, such as the Barney doll and others, partially responsible for the lowest turnout ever in a Canadian Federal election.

National Atheism, Canadian Pride
Neal.F. replied to Alliance Fanatic's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
For the record, separation of church and state means one thing, and one thing only: That the state shall establish no one official state religion. Nothing more, nothing less. I believe that ALL will agree with that. Especially Christians, who believe that one must VOLUNTARILY accept Jesus Christ as lord and Saviour in order to be a Christian. It cannot be legislated on anyone. However, western civilization became a bastion of freedom BECAUSE of judeo-christian principles, and the general acceptance that they foster an orderly society that allows maximum freedom. To want to wipe that out is asking for a utilitarian, amoral dictatorship to take over. Even the Christian Heritage Party believes firmly in separation of church and state. They believe however, that should they be called upon to govern, they should do so according to the judeo-christian ethics and standards on which the country was founded, and that includes FREEDOM of religion, to wit, not having any religion forced on anyone. It is the militant secularists who want to abolish Christianity, AND The principles which even non-believers embrace as fundamental to the preservation of a free and oerderly society, in order that there will be NO Objective standards, and that the word of those in power, based on nothing but achieving the objective of the moment, becomes the law of the land. Alliance fanatic is NOT being PC . He is railing against exactly that. I am a Christian, and if a Jewish person wishes me a Happy Chanukah, I am not in the least bit offended, especially since the story of the Maccabees is part of our joint heritage. And if a Muslim offers me best wishes on Eid El-Fitr, I take those wishes in the spirit in which they were offered. BTW, Paul Martin did NOT give a Christmas message this year. Even Crouton would do that in his own twisted way. -
you can add drug dealers to that list, Alliance fanatic. I like the way China deals with those lowlifes. A walk through the village square to the town garbage heap, then a bullet in the nape of the neck.

Kinsella predicting a minority government? That's a new one. Warren must have been passed over when Martin took over the Politburo.... To hear my old friend Warren predicting ANYTHING but a crushing Liberal majority is astonishing. No doubt he remains a loyal Liberal, but sour grapes might be what has produced this. Kinsella was brought into the game by Alan Rock, and I would not be surprised if he wishes the Martin era to be short & sweet so that his man can make a run at it. If not Rock himself, someone Rock could live with....say....Justin Trudeau? As far as his gloom is concerned, it may well be that he sees the BC scandals as potentially devastating to Martin and the FedLibs. This has almost certainly wiped out any potential Liberal gains in BC, and they would be lucky to hold onto what they have. They will also lose the two they have in Alberta, and a minumum of 30 in Ontario. So yes, it looks like a minority, UNLESS he can make up for his losses in Quebec by grabbing 15-20 from the Bloc. While I can forsee some gains, 15-20 would be a tall order.
-
The only place in Canada where the politics are worse than Quebec is BC. Unbelieveable. We shall see how much of this sticks to Martin. I think quiote a bit. Crouton will do his utmost to make sure of it.
-
This needs to be kept in the public eye. Bought & paid for Martin media lackies like Barbara Yaffe will try to downplay it , the usual "Conservative Party is a bunch of homophobic racist kitten eaters" nonsense, but lets hope that a)The RCMP continues doing what we pay them to do, and the media grows a spine and dares to tell the truth about the Liberal would-be-dictators.

Does Music Shape A Person's Values
Neal.F. replied to Alliance Fanatic's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Just another thought, on the subject of people having the ability to just stop buying the filth. My observation is that people will accept any swill that is dished out to them especially if it is slickly marketed. Which is why I think purveyors of trashy pop culture need to be reined in. -
The Kinsella fear factor?

Brainiac, I can assure you, that unless Mr. Harper is caught red-handed pulling a Jacko, the Conservatives will get 30 seats or more in Ontario. You can take that to the bank. The only resentment in Ontario against the Alliance had to do with the disappointment over the party's performance in the election. This was combined with still-loyal Tories voting for the PCs or staying home. Newsflash. There is no more Progressive Conservatibve Party. Newsflash. There is no more Canadian Alliance. Neither party exists any longer, and there is now a party for everyone: The COnservative party of Canada. There will be no more split vote. Mr Harper has also succeeded in disciplining the hitherto unruly caucus, and keeping things level, and also got finances back in order. This combined with a resurgent NDP will result in at least 30 Ontario seats going Conservative, possibly more, depending on how the vote breaks. As the election draws neareer, two things will happen that will bolster the currently rising poll numbers: 1) The CP leadership race will grab headlines. HArper will wisely refrain from attacking his opponents, and will spend his time in the headlines exposing Paul Martin for the fraud he is. 2) Paul Martin will actually have to govern and take responsibility for whatever happens under his watch. case in point: Pierre Pettigrew (Lookee here! Guess who's in Martins Cabinet?) bungled the HRDC Portfolio but when the fertilizer hit the fan, Jane Stewart had to take the fall. And you may rest assured that Crouton left some nicely concealed cowpies for martin to step in. That'll be his revenge. The deadwood Liberal backbenchers of Ontario who have had their free ride since the vote splitiing happened in 1993 had better prepare their CVs. They'll be needing them in the next few months. Meanwhile, what's that stench coming from Victoria? Not only will that hurt the Martinites in BC, there will be many in Ontario who will not like what they see. We will soon discover that Martin does not have the same teflon coating that Crouton had. Quebec may be the one thing that saves martin's skin. The one drawback of losing Lord is the inroads that could have been made quickly in Quebec. We'll just have to do it the hard way, the longer way. But the Bloc may yet foil martin's plans too. But lets just look at it. Should Martin fail to make gains in BC, and lose seats even, and then drop 30-40 in Ontario, he will need to gain 15-25 new ones in Quebec to hold his majority. Do not underestimate Mr harper. he could very well take more in Ontario than we think.
