  1. I don't believe Canada lets "poor Quality" immigrants entering the Country, unless they claim Refugee status. With a refugee claim, under the charter of rights, Canada is liable to conduct an investigation regarding the claim and if the claim is found to be valid, Canada is responsible for accepting the individual/family as refugee. Apart from the refugee situation, Canada doesn't allow "Poor Quality" immigrants entering the country. As an immigrant myself, my process was unbelievably complicated and at the end of the day, the reason I was accepted is because of my education level and my skills and expertise. Although I do believe that an immigration reform is in order, to attract immigrants who are willing to integrate to the society. Cheers, S
  2. So the Republicans gain a 50 or so majority over the Democrats, but the Democrats still maintain a very narrow majority in the senate. A similar situation happened in 1994 with President Clinton. Some say that this is a positive change for Obama since he now can blame any shortcomings in the Economy and Unemployment on the Republicans. How will this power struggle effect the politics of the next 2 years? -For up to date coverage of the U.S. Midterm election and an analysis visit: http://www.unitedoncampus.com/articles/us-midterm-election-results-02112010.html
  3. But I think you have to take into consideration that maintaining a close relationship with world's superpowers have always been Canada's policy. In the past, with England and now with United States. Currently Canada is encouraging Chinese investment as a preparation for the Chinese economic boost. I would consider Canada as one of the world's major powers (ranking up with United Kingdom, Western European countries, etc.) but I certainly encourage investment and increase in the military, for national defense and also for humanitarian interventions which I think Canada should involve in more often.
  4. When you criticize something you need to provide an alternative. Are you suggesting that Canada should have let the Taliban run Afghanistan? or that Canada should not have helped the coalition of willing to try and stabilize a rogue nation under UN Mandate?
  5. I smell rhetoric. Get your point though, but don't diss the question. Many might argue that soft power now plays a more important role in International System. You clearly disagree but its something to think about.
  6. haha, you're right, I guess I should have included a "no" before the answer
  7. With the new purchase of F-35s, the question of increased Military power comes in mind. What do you think about Canada's military power and whether it should be increased and more involved or not? http://www.UnitedOnCampus.com
  8. The issue of Omar Khadr in particular is over, but the dispute over "child soldier" definition remains. It only goes to show the importance of education and information in the developing world to prevent future terrorists (?) being influenced by fundamentalist propaganda: http://unitedoncampus.com/articles-omar-khadr-oct-25.html I think education plays as much of an important role in the region as the military, if not more.
  9. Omar Khadr...Child Soldier or a terrorist?
