The whole argument regarding whether killers use guns or not is rather pointless. Of course they do. The real question is' will they stop killing if long guns must be registered? Better still, have they stopped killing since the long gun registry has come into effect? It is pretty cleat that the answer in both cases is a resounding NO to both! Those in favour of the Registry are likely thinking that the Registry is some sort of step toward total gun prohibition. It isn't. Since it is not a step toward gun prohibition and it is not (and can never be) effective as a means of preventing killings, it is rather useless. So, the Long Gun Registry is an expensive and useless system. Of course it should be abolished. The system would be better used to register children and it could be used to verify the legitimacy of the guardian whenever any child is enrolled in any school or is treated for any health issue. Children do actually get abducted and a registry system could be actually useful.

Union bargaining is the equivalent of corporations engaging in price fixing. Labour rates are a price that should be set by the market for that labour. Just as it is illegal for corporations to engage in price fixing, it should be illegal for unions to 'fix' prices with collective bargaining.

Tor Star has every right to take any position they wish on subjects like the performance of Rob Ford. They are under no obligation to be fair or unbiased. The Tor Star is better known as the 'Red' Star in some circles so it should come as no surprise that they would take a Left Wing position. The only control or limitation on their editorial stance is the tolerance of their readers and advertisers. The Star editorial policy may be the product of idiots but, in this country, everyone has a constitutional right to be an idiot.

Care to offer ANY specifics from "Attawapiskat's books" which indicates ANY of the qualified band members were refused or limited in their educational aspirations due to financial constraints? I seriously doubt there are any Natives anywhere in Canada who are qualified to pursue higher education who have had to limit their educational pursuits due to lack of financial support.

Somehow, Natives and Liberals have come to believe that the Government has an obligation to fully support the Natives while they lounge around in an idle lifestyle. They seem to forget that Natives, just like all other Canadians, have a responsibility to care for themselves and their families. That is generally interpreted to mean gainful employment and a responsible lifestyle. The government certainly gives them every assistance in meeting these goals with preferential treatment in employment, particularly near their homes, and almost unlimited assistance in education and training.

Wallin and CTV can speak of Harper in any way they see fit and that their sponsors/viewers will tolerate. The CBC operates with large subsidisation from the public purse and we have every right to expect, even demand, that they are entirely without ANY form of bias. If the CBC are unwilling or unable to be rigorously objective in their reporting of Canadian politics, they should be shut down. Or at a minimum, their News Service should be entirely silenced during any election campaigns,

There is nothing wrong with trying to attract women or minorities to the RCMP but the actual hiring should reflect approximately the proportions represented by the applicants - NOT the proportions of the desired mix. It is not a good idea to have any public servant selected because they are "good enough". They should be selected because they are the best of those who applied. Anything else id discrimination.

I worked as a census taker during the 2006 Census and I can assure you there are significant number of people who very much resent the questioning and particularly the long form. Because of this personal familiarity with the reluctance (even hostility) that many people exhibit, I was very surprised at the reaction to the Harper initiative to remove at least the long form. While I can appreciate the importance many people who find the census to be valuable to them in their professional lives feel, it is my belief the Harper Government would have gained far more votes by eliminating the long form than by retaining it. The public reaction was more a manifestation of the liberal media drumming up "Bash the Government" news than any popular opposition to the measure.

It is not a requirement of Law that you register any vehicle. You must license it to use it on the roads but you can buy a new vehicle and have it delivered to your yard without ever registering it. Certainly the mere fact that you have ownership of a unregistered (unlicensed) vehicle does not make you a criminal as it would with a gun. The primary purpose of vehicle registration is to defray the costs of providing the infrastructure on which to operate a vehicle. The plate identification is to facilitate identification at a distance. Neither of these justifications exist with the long gun registry. In fact, there appears to be no use to the long gun registry. It is what I refer to as 'photo-op legislation'. Provides no useful purpose but looks good as a photo-op.
