  1. Hi everyone, since "settlements" are such a contentious issue regarding the Israeli-Arab conflict, I thought I'd give you some insight into what these settlements actually are. I've been living in Jerusalem for about two months, now, and I've learned that there is a "housing crisis" here with respect to costs of ownership and average incomes/salaries. Don't forget that the standard of living in Israel is quite a bit lower than in Canada. Specifically, for the same level of education and expertise, one will typically earn a lower salary in Israel and NOT enjoy a proportional decrease in the cost of living. In other words, assume you would earn 25% less in Israel doing the same job you're doing now with the same qualifications, your cost of living would perhaps be 10% lower - meaning you will sacrifice some material comforts.

Although I don't have time now, I'll come back soon with some information that I can find which will help us all appreciate the need for appropriate construction in Jerusalem to accommodate natural growth. As the population and economy grows, as will construction (new apartments, buildings for business/industry, school, government offices, and all other things you can think of) of appropriate buildings. Unfortunately, given the politicization of this issue, many people (including the Obama administration) seem to think it is fair to ask Israel to put its needs on hold for year-after-year while the "peace process" proceeds.

Without going into too much detail now, if you didn't already now (I surely didn't know until I arrived here), there is a short supply of housing and business real estate in this city, and in order to bring costs down for housing and business to be more accessible to more people, the supply needs to be increase. Furthermore, many people are religious Jews, and many religious Jewish people want to work closer to the old city to be in easier contact with the old city, as many of them have involvement there (work, religious associations, schools, etc).

I'll take some pictures of "settlements" in the near future and share them with you soon.

Personally, I say "build baby, build!".

the housing crisis in israel does not make it okay to evict the palestinians from their land and annex the land like it belongs to them. it also does not make it okay to illegally build on another person's land.

many orthodox jewish groups have become a big burden on the israeli society. they have the highest unemployment rate and most do not serve in the military. a military that is fighting a battle for their illegal settlements.

the illegal settlements (including those in arab east jerusalem) are a cancer and removing them is a big part of the solution to the peace process. anyone who lives there, including yourself, know that the settlements are a multi-million dollar real estate industry that is making a few rich while fueling the desperate situation for the palestinians and continuing to stall any process. corrupt israeli politicians like ohmert and every other mayor after teddy kollek have made millions filling their pockets and the few cronies around them by constructing cheap housing on arab land. these settlements are filled with many who 'choose' not to work and who see no vision but the vision of 'greater israel'. they are against the establishment of a palestinian state and they are part of a systematic land theft that has been going on for over 40 years.

  2. Israeli soldiers admit to deliberate killing of Gaza civilians

The soldiers’ testimonies include accounts of an unarmed old woman being shot at a distance of 100 yards, a woman and her two children being killed after Israeli soldiers ordered them from their house into the line of fire of a sniper and soldiers clearing houses by shooting anyone they encountered on sight.

    ...

“That’s the beauty of Gaza. You see a man walking, he doesn’t have to have a weapon, and you can shoot him,” one soldier told Danny Zamir, the head of the Rabin pre-military academy, who asked him why a company commander ordered an elderly woman to be shot.

    ...

"When we entered a house, we were supposed to bust down the door and start shooting inside and just go up storey by storey… I call that murder. Each storey, if we identify a person, we shoot them. I asked myself – how is this reasonable?"

    Link

what about this? of course they'll try to justify this and pretend that the IDF has not took part in deliberate attacks on civilians and then got away with it.

typical for people like israeli woman and the rest of the hasbara bots.

  3. I disagree...

Moderate Muslims would be targetted and killed. They would be/are shown as an example by the Islamofascists to intimidate anyone into going along with the Islamofascist fundementalist agenda...

Someone like Salim Mansour or Tarek Fatah would be targetted for death for speaking out the way they can in the West.

it depends which country you're talking about.

for my school project, i interviewed both the heads of the canadian islamic congress and muslim canadian congress amongst many other political and religious leaders in the muslim community. there are many views, perspectives, beliefs out there and to throw blanket statements like "moderate muslims would be targeted", only adds more ignorance to the fire.

the same can be said about judaism and christianity.

  4. The poem is about not killing, about not seeking revenge, about not resorting to violence at all; about compassion and sympathy for one's enemies.

You're such a fanatic that you even consider peaceable Palestinians who say they shouldn't resort to violence...as the enemy!

Or was the poem just too difficult for you?

it's easier to just ignore the clown.

  5. Just out of curiosity, are we now going to be presented with threads about every single mosque in every city in every country that has had any negative reaction to it?

Anyone care to make a guess as to how many threads we'd end up with?

something wrong with pointing out the hysteria behind this? hysteria that originates from ignorance and bigotry? a hysteria that is overtaking the bigots in america.

  6. This is too awesome!

I've recently posted a thread about the show Red Eye that airs at 3am nightly on Fox News. It's a mix of comedy and politics. I highly recommend it. Example of Red Eye:

Anyways, the host of Red Eye, Greg Gutfeld is raising money to build a gay bar right next to the proposed mosque.

yeah. like most foxnews viewers are big supporters of the rights of the gays.

    you're such a dork.

  7. This response is proof that you're nothing but an idiot. Seriously. What does "I'm not defending this verdict" say to you? I'd like to know, for my own knowledge, how much you're able to comprehend; or more accurately, not able to comprehend.

you're defending it by not condemning it.

you're defending it by pretending that we have such a law in the west, when there is no such law and no one in the west has been convicted of rape by pretending to be someone with a different religious/ethnic background.

you're defending it because that's all you do, is to defend everything israel does.

    keep trying hasbarabot.

  8. Awwww, bud, what can I say? I always think it's soooo cute when foreigners tell Americans what Americans would or wouldn't do.

And in case you're unaware, you can get in trouble for exposing yourself in public. ;)

i'm sure anyone who realizes that support for another country will harm their country, they wouldn't support it.

you don't care. your unconditional support for israel and inability to criticize israel is a good indication where you stand on your loyalty. it's definitely not loyalty to america.

  9. Israel is a reliable ally in a region of the world vital to American interests....has been for many years. It is a proxy and bellwether for American power.

    great. thanx for the non-answer.

can you get any more vague? the military has already came to the conclusion that support for israel's policies towards palestinians is not in the best interest of american security.

Hardly...as many Arab nations are US allies as well. Keep your biblical baggage to yourself.

none of the arab nations have control over your congress the way israel's lobby groups do. you're not a true american because you don't care that your congress is heavily influenced by another country's lobby group.

so tell me.. what's your vested interest? really?

I am an American who does, so right away you are proven wrong. What is your interest in the matter...and why are you impotent to change mine? Why do you lack the "power"?

americans who support the unconditional support for israel and the $3 billion dollars a year in US taxpayer's money to israel are one of the following:

    a) jewish americans who put israel's interest above america's

    B) religious christian zealot

    c) uninformed, ignorant right wingers who will nod to everything glenn beck and foxnews tells them to believe

current US policies towards israel are bad for america's interests. there is a reason why you can't come up with 1 good reason why US should be supporting israel in their destructive behaviour towards the palestinians.

  10. what's your vested interest in israel, bush?

rapture? jew for greater israel? do you really hate those a-rabs that much? which is it?

NO american who cares about america's best interests would support the policies towards israel.

  11. how lame. as if everyone doesn't already know that american woman is another israel-first hasbarabot.

copy, paste, and publish. at the very least, you'd think any self-respecting hasbarabot would at least try to dig up some new material. but, no. it's the same shop-worn, tattered, obsolete, thoroughly discredited, crippled, intellectually impoverished arguments that has already been run through the mill.

  12. But at least they can marry outside their religion:

It is permissible for a Muslim man..

    lol.

every time you post something the muslims do in their countries in response to what the jews do in israel, you prove that israel is not a beacon of democracy and human rights like you and others try to sell it as. it has more in common with the theocratic muslim countries than us here in the west.

bottom line is that you will never, ever see a person being convicted of rape because he pretended to follow a different religion in order to get into a woman's pants.

if you're unable to condemn this stupid racist conviction, then it's another proof that you're nothing but a hasbarabot.

ALL you do is justify everything israel does. even this racist conviction. people can see right through you.
