  1. Vic Teows is not unilingual. He speaks three languages. While french may not be one of them, this still clearly indicates that he understands the needs of multi-lingual people, and how different languages generally come with different cultural expectations.
  2. Sure there's a pattern... That the G&M is a shill for the LPC. Tell us something we didn't already know.
  3. Polls predicted those gains last election too, how did that pan out?
  4. ESPECIALLY with the amazing job they've done with the economy. We are doing better than anyone else in the world, and things are already improving.
  5. He's governing very well. We have the best government in the world right now.
  6. No big breakthroughs. It's not like that. Slow steady increases. There were a number of very close 1-2% difference second place finishes for CPC last time around. Don't forget that the new conservative movement has never failed to add to it's seat count in every single election. Big booms make for big busts. Slow increases make for a solid base you can count on. A majority is not necessary, we can afford to go to the polls every month if need be. Brampton—Springdale, Vancouver South, Cumberland—Colchester, and Edmonton—Strathcona are certainly ripe for the taking.
  7. I can't take credit, I got it from Steven Taylor.
  8. Q: Why is Michael Ignatieff still in Canada? A: Because Ruby Dhalla’s holding his passport. (edit: I'm making this one my signature.)
  9. I am actually more confidant than I was prior to the last election. I'm really looking forward to it.
  10. "One Senior Conservative"? Really? Let me guess, Ian McDonald?
  11. It doesn't have to. Another defeat for the Liberals, another change in leadership, more money drained, back into debt, more left leaners less inclined to participate with votes or donations. It's all good. Rinse and repeat with Bob Rae.
  12. --double post--
  13. These are not even attack ads. They are matter of fact statements and quotations of Ignatieff. If a Liberal supporter thinks these are attacks, it's because they know full well their emperor has no clothes, and they know Canadians are going to see Ignatieff for what he really is. The mock outrage and/or flip dismissals are a thin veil to try to disguise their horror at knowing that they've seen this movie before, and they know how it ends: with them having even less seats than they have now.
  14. Calling Ian McDonald a Conservative is a stretch. "Doing"? In opinion polls, or in the job he's doing? He's the best prime minister this country has had in at least 40 years, so yes, he's doing very well. Polls go up and down. Dion was in the lead between elections too, how did that turn out? Keep in mind that The CPC has not even begun to define Ignatieff in the public's mind.
  15. LOL at the wishful thinking from the looney left.
  16. How was it useless? It helped me out greatly. Reduced cost for childcare, and a lot more choices of how to take care of your kids. For those that want an 'institutional' daycare, there are a lot more choices too. There are new centres opening up all over the place around here. Probably more spaces than necessary actually, since the one at the end of my street still had 15 openings the last time I checked.
  17. Previous election, not the one we just had. Flanangan went back to U of C full-time, and did some analysis for CTV. Notice that it says FORMER Conservative campaign worker in the credits of his G&M articles, even the ones he wrote during the election. He also clearly states in this interview just before the election that he is no long working for the CPC. Still is the goal, and it will happen. With a different guy at the helm of the party, different methods are employed. EVERY expert agreed that the tape was doctored. We had at least 6 guys (including the Liberal's own experts) who said it's a flat out fake, and one guy who said it was edited, but he could not determine that it would have changed the meaning of the conversation. That's one neutral opinion, and the rest united against the Liberal opinion. The Liberals had zero chance of winning that suit. The enemy in that particular battle was already vanquished, it was time to extract something else from the new guy. Harper got something: Dion destroyed, the coalition broken, and his budget passed. What did Ignatieff get by settling? The third showing in a week that he backs down when pressured?
  18. Tom Flanagan has not been advising the PM for quite some time. The war against Dion is already won. Ignatieff is a different guy, this is a different war, it will be fought differently.
  19. No way. No paper record, too much chance of fraud and abuse.
  20. I take some offense to the implication by some people here that finding yourself pregnant (either on purpose or "by surprise") when not wealthy means that anyone owes you anything. When my wife got pregnant with our first child, we were both in university. We both worked part time making minimum wage, and lived in a pretty crappy apartment in the inner city of Winnipeg. Over the next 10 years, we bought a house and a car, my wife finished her degree, and we paid off all of our student loans. For most of this period we were making so little that we actually would have qualified for full welfare without clawbacks if we had chosen to apply for it. It never occurred to us that we would sponge off the system, we went out and worked for what we got. You do not need to be well off to raise children. You just need to be not lazy.
  21. All of the experts called by both sides unequivocally stated that the tape was altered. Every single one of them. Where they differed, was to what extent that altering changed the content of the conversation. Some flat out said it was fake, others simply said that it's not trust worthy. Nobody said it was an intact recording of the whole conversation. Of course the part you are most conveniently leaving out is the most recent two expert reports. The ones the Liberals hired to try to prove the tape was authentic. Both of them said it was fake. read: http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...?hub=TopStories watch: http://watch.ctv.ca/news/Redirect/?ClipId=102272 The fact that the Liberals own evidence contradicts their defense is a far more likely reason why they settled out of court. I do find it telling that the CBC conveniently "forgot" to do a story on this report. Contrary to what the CBC so desperately wishes was true, the weight of the evidence is clearly in the PMs favour. EDIT: I just read a comment on a Liberal blog that made a hypothetical that I had not considered. Basically, that the deal probably was "you pass the budget, and we'll drop the lawsuit".
  22. The MSM's spin was that the experts said it was not doctored, but the experts actual reports clearly said it was, numerous times.
  23. I heard it. Every single expert called agreed that the tape was doctored. The only question was to what degree the meaning of the conversation was changed by that doctoring. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2008/06/04/...pe.html?ref=rss The tape is NOT a continuous recording of one conversation. It's a fake.
  24. Do people think Iggy is better than Dion? Of course, it doesn't take much. Does that mean they'd vote for him? Hardly. After everything that's happened, Harper's support right now is the same as it was on election day. Did he do the right thing by supporting the budget? To save his own job he sure did. No chance he'd force an election that he'd lose badly and could not afford anyway.
