  1. In my mind, an Invasion is more of a threat then an unstable neighbour.

Invasion? Pffft. Nobody needs no stinkin' invasion. I would stay and debate, but I have to get to Walmart to buy a copy of Windows and install it on my Gateway, while I eat some Orville Redenbachers popcorn and watch Criminal Minds on NBC y'all. While wearing Levis of course. :D

  2. Of course they are, the workers in oshawa already screwed that pooch like I said.

The only thing you guys are repositioning to get that oil wealth is to go on unemployment. Stay classy!

The #1 manufacturing plant in the continent and how did they screw that pooch? US corporate decisions, not efficient workers decisions.

No, with the new technical institute university, the re-positioning is all about making sure that Alberta pays their fair share for once.

  3. The Privacy Commissioner has said that this plan should protect Canadian sovereignty and privacy rights and she concerned about this plan agreed on. This also does a lot of "harmonizing" with the two countries which always give the US the upper hand. One example give in the video is that in the US, companies add vitamins to candy and call it healthy! Our food standards are higher than the US but under this Harper is giving that away.

Does that mean pizza will be declared a vegetable?

(OK Topaz, I was trying to find a way to make a 6X6 joke, but nothing quite fit. You'll have to wait for next time...) :D

  4. I would not agree.

Bullying in the past had set hours for the most part, during school time and more often than not, Mon-Fri.

Now it is 24-7 w FB and all the other social media.

Not to mention it gets to more people faster and easier than ever. In The old Ford days one would have to explain ad naseum why he is bullying X , and that gets tiring after a while.

Now everyone can know in the click of a mouse.

Oh I agree, but the end result is the same, it is bullying then as is bullying now - the aims are the same. Social media adds another dimension to it, but there was still social media back then, consisting of peer groups and such, vicious gossip and neighbourhood bullies and worse, entire families of bullies.

  5. I never asked you to care. It's not really your business to. My standard of living is just fine thank you. The "Ted and Nancy story" is demonstrative/symptomatic of the why society has gone off the rails. Call it what you will.

The Ted and Nancy Show says nothing since it is a simplistic allegory.

I know quite well that these things exist. So do mountains and people with six fingers on each hand. Interesting, but still not my problem.

That has yet to be demonstrated by any comprehension of the scope of the problem.

By your definition of "properly" not mine. My responsibility begins and ends with my family, not yours.

Yes, hence my remark about me wanting your kids to go to university sooner than later.

So there's more than one stupid person in the world. What a newsflash. There's also how many millions of smokers out there that will die knowing full well that cigarettes are causing it (at least in part). Not my problem. Not yours either. The information is out there, and by out there I mean directly in their faces. If they choose to ignore it, that's their problem.

If it wasn't our problem, then explain anti-smoking bylaws.

Again, the HDTV scenario is a symptom. There is no one magic bullet for current economic problems so quit acting like this plays no part in it. If they quit making tv's, these people would spend money they don't have on something else. Maybe beer and popcorn?

C'mon man. The HDTV isn't even a "scenario."

Modern welfare state. There you go; there's your problem. Maybe there IS a magic bullet. As for my kids, they are true-blue Albertans who, at the ages of 13 and 14, already know "the system" doesn't owe them any favors. They'll be fine.

Modern welfare state Dad and no matter how much "true-blue" you go in the face wishing it weren't so, it will never go away and is the trend for the entire planet. Your kids will learn this in university and thus surpass you in understanding. We'll all be better off for it.

  6. both...girls tend to be more verbal and now with the aid of social networking/facebook takes the only safe refuge (home) away from them the psychological assault can be continuous...my daughter told me of a classmate who endured so much abuse that after two years that she not not her tormentors was driven from her school...

being a scrawny late bloomer as a teenager I endured so much physical abuse I did the same transferring to high school far away from my home, my tormentor was never dealt with by the school...decades later I still await running into him again at 225lbs I ain't that scrawny kid anymore and haven't forgotten or forgiven...

Social media dude. It is much more fun to hunt them down, one by one. ;)

  7. Unfortunately for them, the Korean's and the Japanese and the Americans and the...well...everyone else builds them better and cheaper.

So they can't build 'em cheap because a guy that puts a screw in a seat makes $100 grand a year, and they can't make 'em good because they're built in Canada. Maybe they could build 'em and ship 'em to, I don't know, Kewbek? Or Russia?

What about taking all those laid-off auto workers and having them man the customer service phone centers for some big Pakistani or Indian corporations?

Yeah, as if Albertans drive Korean and Japanese trucks. Well except for those Albertans who are owned by the Koreans and Japanese. And Chinese.

Laid off auto-workers are already re-positioning to manage all that oil wealth Ontario is getting. No worries out east.

  8. Maybe you can show me were i dishonored any of our fallen soldiers, Because i called into question our nations stand towards it's defense commitmentsI used Britain as an example because we've been on almost the same mission, my piont was for you to do some research and compare their level of commitment to ours....in fact you can use any nation really, compare their total troop numbers with how many they deployed at one time ...simple math really....and then compare ours...

Our "defense commitments" have headstones and their names are recorded 'In the Service of Canada Book of Remembrance' located in the Peace Tower in Ottawa.

Seems to be a theme here on this forum that any one that has served or supports the military is a WAR MONGER/ killer whatever ...but then again it's easy for anyone who has not experienced in the military or the effects of war to spew these things when he runs out of inteligent things to come up with...

Bullshit. When you ask when since "...korea were have we..." spilt our blood in a military adventure you either don't know what you are talking about because you lack knowledge or your just being completely disingenuous. Take your pick and spare me your hurt feelings.

As for wannabe I've spent almost 30 years serving my country, been to almost every shit hole in the world and seen first hand what evil men can do to each other, the last thing i am is a Wannabe WAR Monger, However i do know that there is a time to carry a big stick and there is a time to swing it...

Well then, obviously - and according to your own logic - in those 30 years, other than Afghanistan you have never been in a military adventure where your blood was at risk of being spilt. Question your own commitment, not Canada's.

  9. "Most Agreeable Post" maybe, but not "Suckiest". I haven't looked, but I'm sure one of the "Jack is dead" posts would snow this under easily.

Besides, even without the tongue-in-cheek, the post is exactly bang on.

I would love nothing better than for the ROC to quit "sending money" to Alberta - in exchange, of course, for us not "sending money" outside the province. The oilsands belong to Alberta, not Canada, and all the money changing hands should be left to those of us that reside in the province.

Then you should get right back out there and start pumping some more of it for us. Show us your real worth.

  10. By the way - what you call a "chronic societal problem" used to be known as a "fact". There have always been dumb people. The biggest mistake society ever made was trying to fight against Darwinian theory.

You survived didn't you? You should be thankful for society's mistakes.

  11. Why would I give a damn about someone else's credit mistakes or lack of knowledge?

Why would I give a damn about your personal gains compared to the losses of millions and downward trajectory of the standard of living? See? You are unable to think to scale so you make up nice, convenient - but ultimately meaningless - allegory.

You and I will never see eye to eye on this, because we have differing views on one very important point:

We can't see eye to eye because your ability to think in abstracts larger than yourself appear not to exist.

I believe in personal responsibility and you don't.

Oh, but I do and I am a personally responsible person who devotes many hours to community causes to boot - you know, helping others and all that stupid crap. See, again, you can't think properly of anything past your nose.

Whether it's overusing credit, or alcohol, or drugs, or committing murder, or internet porn, or not paying a mortgage - it's that individual's responsibility. Not mine. Not yours.

Yep, but not just an individual, remember you are dealing with "Ted and Nancy." That's two individuals.

You, on the other hand, seem to believe that no one is responsible for anything. Everything negative that happens is for society to fix. And feel guilty about. Alcoholic? Must be because society put liquor laws and stores in place. Shoot some heroin in your arm? Society's fault. Commit murder? Must have had an abusive childhood - let the guy walk. Credit problems? That's because those evil credit card companies/banks dared to give a low life the opportunity to borrow money - it's not that guy's fault if he buys three HDTVs but doesn't pay his power bill.

Yes, because our present economic problems are all about the "guy" buying three HDTVs.

Society has a responsibility to look after certain things: roads, homeland security, garbage collection, availability of basic necessesities. Not the actions of stupid people.

Not in the modern welfare state Daddy-O. Hence, the comment about your kids going to university. It can't be too soon IMO.

  12. I think modern bullying is more pathological than "gimme your lunch money" with facebook and stuff.

Bullying is bullying whether in Rob Ford's time or modern day school.

What I find hilarious about bullying is it appears that bullying because you're gay is far worse than bullying because you're socially awkward.

Well for youngsters experiencing their first rush of hormones, isn't gay and socially awkward a bit synonymous?

  13. Your concern for cyclist safety would be admirable if it weren't actually a cloak for your real interest in making things more convenient for drivers at the expense of, well, everyone else.

With adequate infrastructure and education in place, there's no reason cars and bikes can't share the road with a minimum of risk.

Kind of reminds me of the whining about the expense and economic impact of QC trucks having to have regular and certified safety checks to operate on ON highways. You know, all those flying and bouncing truck tires were a boon to the funeral industry.
