well there is that, but each generation becomes more liberal than the one that came before...atheists are growing as a percentage of the population so they must be coming from families who practice religion of some sort...education is the enemy of religious belief...We grow up learning our belief system from our parents and our peers so generally speaking, conservative people have conservative children and so on.
I met a creationist my first year in Uni and when she asked me if I believed in evolution I didn't even know what she meant. Then when she brought up creationsim I thought she's kidding until the conversation went further and I realised she's nuts. Oops, I mean she's serious.
However, thinking about it later I realised her parents taught her those things just as mine taught me evolution. She'll end up teaching her kids that evolution is a farce too.
And that how regional politics come to be. You learn your values from your peers and your parents.

a lot of them do because they're stupid, bible thumping, xenophobes or all three combined...Why? and will they always vote conservative? Have they always voted conservative?
and others do because selfish they may be socially progressive but don't want anything to threaten their jobs/income...

yikes! that's really scary in this day that someone still does know what democracy is...one man, one vote, without that there is no democracy....the entire concept of democracy revolves around equality of the vote...Again, that isn't all there is to democracy, even if it's a portion of it. A functioning democracy must have stability and a system by which to transfer power. Voting is only part of the equation.

the bias is yours, here's your original post....I'm not saying what is in the video is factually false, I'm saying it leaves out a lot. It offers almost no criticism of the Arab/Palestinian side. It's consciously biased toward one side.
-"The video is massively biased against Israel. It's 6 minutes of "Israel has been terrible to Palestinians". No mention of Palestinian rockets or suicide bombers. There I just saved you 6 minutes, Bud you owe me those 6 of my life back. The video is a piece of garbage. "
the video spoke of violence on both sides, it didn't go into details of either sides violent past...you want to go into details of rocket attacks, a palestinian would want details of ariel sharon's murderous rampage of ethnic cleansing....
the bias is yours alone, you want only condemnation of palestinians but ignore zionist atrocities...any acknowment of israeli fault is an impossibility in your bubble world...you hear "israel did this" and instantly it's fingers buried up to the knuckle in your ears time...

say what?...voting is the heart of democracy, without voting you can not have a democracy...equality of vote is essential to a healthy democratic system....No, in fact it's not. Democracy is about more than just voting.

the Australia just purchased 24 the US navy bought 124 more in 2010, so are you claiming the US navy buys obsolete crap?....the customers of the russians and chinese that would most likely encounter rarely buy planes that are top rate, they buy planes to protect themselves against their neighbors not nato...and this orphan line is crap, there are a number of planes that are only flow by one country it just doesn't matter, as long as we fly anything orphan or not, manufacturers will supply parts for it...As BC has pointed out, Iran wound up with a bunch of F-14's in the seventies. Also you have no clue what the Russians and Chinese are going to sell to who over the next 30 years. Top that off with the fact we will be trying to operate orphans as soon as our allies stop flying the F-18E when it is not even into half its lifespan with us. I hate to think what that will cost getting one off factory support just for us.

stationary bombing ? eew enemy sam batteries are gonna love that tactic...F35 search and rescue that's the most ridiculous idea yet, you may have heard of another invention specifically designed for such uses, it's called a helicopter...I wonder what it would be like to search for someone on the ground at mach2 ...Well its not just for carriers they are short take off meaning they are more versatile. If you've ever seen these things hover over you you know how impressive they are, bombing something from a stationary hover is pretty cool you could even do search and rescue with it if you put some type of recovery tool in the bombay... mach 2 search and recovery....
any plane we pick will be obsolete long before the 40 yr lifespan is up, pilot-less drones will be the next generation of defense...plane performance is limited by pilot endurance, eliminate the pilot and you can build a smaller faster more maneuverable plane at less cost...none the less it is nice to have a mix of possibilities.. but having the support is useful. I'm not 100% against the project as I think it is good to have a few stealth aircraft, but putting all the blood into them is a bit of a nonsense or having the lifespan go to 40 years.. I think this plane will be way obsolte sometime in the next decade.
waste of money we'll never use it...The main benefit of the f35b's is that they can be forward based away from regular airfields. -
what kind of nonsense is this, now you have us fighting our nato partners who may be flying f35's....the super hornet is superior to any plane flown by third world nations we may confront, the only "potential" adversary with possibly better equipment is the chinese ...and we aren't going to war with any super power regardless what kind of plane we buy...And if the pig wins a competition and shows it can wipe the floor with the Super Hornet and its ilk? Do you think we should hang our future for the next 30 years on an aircraft that is already outclassed?
-
are you not paying attention? the military wanted a minimum 65 planes to be effective for our needs and that was when the price was claimed to be 9 billion, now rumors are the all-in cost will be between 40-45billion that 65 number is now a fantasy, this golden flying pig is dead...my guess is it's the super hornet...From his reply, it looks like that would be a No.

it's a flawed democracy that's what....And the governance of Canada has been extremely successful as well. So what?
China's democracy is successful as well as that a reason to copy it?...
we need more/better democracy not less...better representation of PR is more democratic than FPTP...

and merkel's coalition is stable, there is no reason why a coalition should be an more unstable than a what er have now...our cpc is a coalition of two parties...Agreed, and contradicting TimG's point, however, Merkel recognized that if her government fell the people would get...drum roll...another coalition.
angela Merkel-
"We have guided Germany out of the crisis stronger than Germany entered the crisis," she said to a cheering audience.
In a nod to her struggling coalition Free Democratic Party partners, she said "in these times no coalition could lead our country better."
"This government is the most successful government since reunification," she said.

methinks you'll look under every rock desperate to find the tiniest most meaningless shred of evidence in to prop up your futile defense of fptp...fptp it's a stupid and flawed system, undemocratic and unpopular around the globeFrequent change is stability? Methinks you should check your dictionary again.
Sorry, I don't see that as immediately evident.

and Germany has had 8...and that, as they say, is that...slam dunkAnd that, as they say, is that.
-
that doesn't make the government less stable but it would indicate greater integrity of office and internal party politics...Changes of government (prime minister) in Canada since the Second World War: 13. In Italy: 41.
-
it makes no difference at all if a PR system can produce a majority then it destroys claims of coalition instability even more so...PR systems are stable, and a PR majority is a legitimate majority unlike what FPTP producesThose stats are useless unless you also include how many of the governments were minority or coalition governments and how many were outright majorities.
-
from an earlier thread, verifying that PR is as stable if not more stable than FPTP
so how many general elections has this PR instability triggered in Italy since WW2, 17....and how many general elections has our oh so much more stable canadian FPTP system resulted in since WW2 ? ...21 .....oopsie! that can't possibly be right...
and three more, none of whom have had as many general elections as canada
Germany PR/FPTP-17
Netherlands PR-20
Sweden PR-20
-
one tim? here's two... netherlands and germany and both with coalition governments and lower unemployment than canada...(and contrary to what you may claim to be the case PR systems don't have multiple PMs )...how popular do you think Merkels bailing out of greece was with the german populace? Can you give me a country with a PR system where government spending is not out of control? The real problem with a PR system is it prevents governments from introducing unpopular but necessary measures. Canada has a relatively healthy economy today because Liberal and Conservative governments had the power to do what is right.
-
a number of eruo PR systems are more stable than ours, having fewer governments and elections than our FPTP, I'd classify that as successful..Yeah, PR is such a failure that it's used by the vast majority of democracies.
-
really why do we need a carrier version o f the F35 or even a STOL version?Something like this wouldn't have been that bad.
http://www.defensene...-Block-Purchase
But I think that what is really needed is a mixed force.
A 4 billion purchase of 33 planes would be a good mix for Canada. but I think the problem is the US isn't really offering national support to Canada to buy its jets. Theres no doubt they would be used for US security issues anyway. I think the bottom line is the US doesn't need or want Canada to have these jets, otherwise it would offer DOD support to the jets.

walmart is where people work until they can find a real job...I'd suggest to you that the majority of Walmart employees desperately need the job...and that it's certainly a "real" job, just as "real" as any job you've ever worked...and the turnover is high because the company policies are sometimes hostile to their own labour force.

the opposition deserves praise for highlighting the issue and forcing harper to back away, he didn't do it because he wanted to...Yes, you should be praising him as he is doing as you and your kind have asked him to do. It's a great victory for the left, it must feel wonderful.
-
it can't win it's an over priced pig and will only become more expensive over time (defense acquisitions always do)and not something we need, there are planes that meet our requirements for much less money...the fact we cannot buy the required minimum number of planes makes the entire process futile...O-K.........And let’s say they hold a competition and the F-35 wins on “merit”, would that mean it was rigged by the Government or would the Opposition accept that?
-
O35 and never heard of him, looked him up on google, still have no idea who he is...Okay, well anyone here over 35 yrs of age and recognizes the name Kirk Cameron?
james cameron yup...cameron diaz oh ya...kirk cameron nope
-
ahh that would be publicly admitting the opposition forced them into it...a slow exit makes look like it was their idea...Then why is the CBC saying different? And why no news of Canada leaving the JSF program?
