  1. Following Descartes, Kant, Hegel, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche and Adorno, I would say morality is "transcendental" subjectivity. What it means is that morally is dedication to repeat endlessly what has the appearance of your destiny.
  2. "Job job job!", "get a job!", as the universal cure-all solution, is yet another obscenely arbitrary tautology.
  3. My understanding is that the subjectivity of quantum physicists is determining the objectivity of what they are studying.
  4. Economic determinism is part of materialism. Science with its virtual strings is fast turning anti-materialist.
  5. In psychoanalysis, a symptom is a slip one is committing when s/he tries too hard to follow the rules.
  6. Who remember? I think that back in the 70's, when Chrysler was in trouble, Lee Ioacoca came in with a retooling of the company to build tanks and military jeeps.
  7. I’m not naïve about science, I consider scientists much like artists, lawmakers and priests: they are all playing God’s role. I think that decision making on the basis of symptoms analysis is how we can avoid the negative outcomes of human hubris.
  8. God is the most typical event (but you won’t notice it if you don’t have faith) in a material world which is almost always only in a virtual state.
  9. To me, it is obscenely arbitrary to think that repeating the tautology "the law is the law" can be an argument for anything.
  10. I think it’s important to see clearly that all that life science is doing start with some kind of artificial selection. From there, that natural selection may become an endangered process should be studied and discuss publicly. The uneasiness Goodyear has shown about expressing publicly his point of view on evolution signals to me an incapacity for making important decisions.
  11. I don’t want of a Christian science minister who is not able to understand that there is no conflict between evolution theory and a certain kind of creationism compatible with the Christian faith. One definition of Man is certainly that of a primate foetus that has become sexually active but a better definition is I dare say: Man is a (distorted) image of the Creator of symbolism or of God as a Verb.
  12. Yes, if Goodyear would have understood evolution theory, he would have spoken of high heels as a trick to attract mating partners.
  13. Goodyear said: “We are evolving every year, every decade. That's a fact, whether it is to the intensity of the sun, whether it is to, as a chiropractor, walking on cement versus anything else, whether it is running shoes or high heels, of course we are evolving to our environment.” http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...y/politics/home I would say now that Goodyear religious beliefs impinge badly on his capacity to understand or accept evolution theory.
  14. Chrysler to pull out of Canada!? Just say thanks and goodbye. We Canadians are not desperate enough to be sour about that.
  15. In politics you take people at their words - not at what they may believe - and Goodyear said: "Commercializing research – the focus of the government's science and technology policy – is an area where Canada needs to make improvements. If we are going to be serious about saving lives and improving life around this planet, if we are serious about helping the environment, then we are going to have to get some of these technologies out of the labs onto the factory floors. Made. Produced. Sold. And that is going to fulfill that talk. So yes, we have to do all of it, we have to do discovery … but it can't end there."
  16. The problems of the auto industry are related to consumers’ credit current unavailability and to problems related to the type of fuel cars are currently using. I think that these problems can be solved only by organizing consumers unions as a direct extension of workers unions.
  17. Leap of faith comes well before principles when one’s (like Goodyear) is only saying he is a Christian. By the way, Terry Gilliam is the best example you can take of a man that knows how to part absolutely company with the animal inside himself.
  18. Unions are simply means by which capitalists and workers are forced to discuss and negotiate over their respective sacrifices (mainly the insecurity of taking risks in the case of businesspeople and the disagreeableness of expending physical and/or mental energies for workers). I cannot think of a more healthy discussion when it comes to searching for economic efficiency.
  19. From what we know about Goodyear, he may only believe that his Christian faith (creationism included) and the theory of evolution are somehow entirely compatible. To me, if that is what he believes, he is entirely right: new emerging properties in nature are events pointing in the direction of a creator of an openness to love.
  20. For Christ love is the best method for searching Truth.
  21. Conservatives are very public with their disbelief in big government. Understandably then, a conservative science minister will shrink the size of his office.
  22. The problem may be that we ask a car manufacturer to produce not only cars but also long-term human relationships.
  23. More and more, I see religion and philosophy as superior to science precisely because most scientists do not feel the need to explicit how human subjectivity seems to participate actively in the construction of all scientific objects.
