  1. Yes. If they do so they lose their fig leaf of protection from being sued for letting out a sole source contract rather than having a competition.

That's against all kinds of rules and regulations and treaties.

you need a new talking point... the "fig leaf" you're whining about courtesy of Harper/Kenney!

again: per your boy Harper and former Defence Minister Jason Kenney: "A line was added to contracting regulations in June and gives the federal cabinet authority to award a deal to a single company if there are urgent “operational reasons” and it fulfills an interim requirement."

  2. The estimates I have seen for the US navy are $18k/hour for F-18E/F, and $30k/hour for F-35.

per USAF: 2015 cost per flight hour for F-35: $44,000 (U.S) per hour.

per US GAO: 2012 cost per flight hour for F-35: $35,000 (U.S) per hour.

per US DoD: 2012 cost per flight hour for F-35: $32,000 (U.S) per hour.

of course, LockMart has grand projections on how much that operating cost will come down based on increased production numbers!

I just found a figure of $20,000 (CAN) for the CF-18... but have no year attachment to that

  3. Actually waldo the reason trudeau is against is because IMO a conservative motion. He should have stood up and backed his fellow parliamentarians on this. Like they did in America ,Britain and the EU. They put the BS to the side and stood together. And waldo for him to say we need yo wait on the UN is a copout, he has proven once again he is in waaaaay over his head..But we at least know there is 4 liberals with brains and courage.

actually PIK, the argument is sound; proper analysis and determination can't be done by politicians; there requires a formal investigation with supporting data/details... no matter what the shrieking Rona states! That's the kind of thing that is required for things like... uhh, you know, something to support the International Criminal Court... that court of last resort for prosecution of genocide. And the UN comes forward with exactly that today - an investigative based review, analysis, determination and pronouncement. But hey, if you think Rona is qualified to do what the UN just went through...

  4. Squirrel !!!!, yes blame it on gun violence, high powered wpns, and second amendment rights.....

33,000 deaths related to firearms last year....of which only 8500 were homicides the rest are attributed to suicides, accidents, etc....

you do the math... What percentage of American gun owners use their wpns that cause death ?

Deaths by auto mobile still rank the leading cause of deaths within the us....But no ban, nor talk about ban or even calling it a health issue.... Most US gun owners are reasonable gun owners.....But yet like those who say we can not paint all Muslims with the same brush....that argument does not apply for gun owners or their guns.....all AR-15's are bad, evil....All high capacity mags are bad, evil.....and yet how many of these gun deaths were attributed to either....most were carried out by hand guns.....but no ban no health warning on these either.....

uhhh, about your own Squirrel act: 2015: per Mass Shooting Tracker - 372 mass shootings killing 475 people and wounding 1,870

playing suicide off against homicide accomplishes what in terms of analyzing gun violence related death? As beat on through past threads, a big part of the reason homicides are down... in spite of the proliferation of guns... is so many more people actually live through the related gun violence due to advances in medical trauma care. Proper and complete analysis includes injuries related to gun violence. Comparative references like 'banning cars because they cause deaths' is just so misplaced and inappropriate.

  5. You did not watch question period?

now, again... I will be your google-beeatch only to reinforce that it is quite easy for you to provide a reference... something to support your statements; something to provide proper context, something to spur discussion, etc.. Let me help you... and the other guy out here:

you should try it - you might like it!

"Canada strongly condemns the atrocities committed by (ISIS) in the Middle East, and we stand with our allies in the fight against (ISIS) to make sure they lose the capacity to take so many civilian lives," Trudeau said during question period

Tuesday when pressed on why he would not vote for the motion.

The prime minister said the Liberal government has instead formally asked the UN Security Council to decide on whether calling it genocide is appropriate.

"We do not feel that politicians should be weighing in on this first and foremost," Trudeau said.

"Determinations of genocide need to be made in an objective, responsible way. That is exactly what we have formally requested the international authorities weigh in on."

now, per your initial post, a few back, I replied to it by actually providing your missing cite/reference that speaks to the UN report released today/reported on today; that does label using the word genocide... this following article also speaks to the need to have that further addressed and reaffirmed at the UN Security Council level: Islamic State committing genocide against Yazidis: U.N.

and yes, I just also found a vid of that question period exchange (2 days ago, June 14) where Rona flips out, per norm, and crassly tries to score partisan points... in her determination, she's fully qualified to review/define/categorize/label genocide... I mean, after all, she is the leader of the CPC party!

  6. Waldo , pay attention to what goes on around you and all the stupid stuff trudeau says. Now I know to keep up with all the dumb stuff trudeau says is a full time job, but keep up. Reread what I had said. Are you saying trudeau did not make the statement ? Did you even watch him answer the motion question in parliament, it was so embarrassing. He just ummed and oowed all the way threw it and is waiting for his masters from the UN to tell him what to say, except the UN is calling it genocide and it is in the star today.

you're doing it again in this very post! It's clear... it's clear in your mind. However, again, if you're going to post an anecdote/your opinion that doesn't rely/presume upon factual accounting - you're good to go! However, when you make unattributed statements (without any context), just what are you providing and, if you want replies, how do expect others to interpret your unsubstantiated statements to that end?

  7. Swoot Damage control.

such a lame response, is yours! Providing proper perspective on yet another DOPloy is... just that. Your comment says more about you and your apparent difficulty in having it pointed out that it was but a single chapter of the organization that used that poster (one created decades ago) in relation to the conference described. As the quote stated, once the umbrella head organization became aware of it... it was 'pulled', with an accompanying statement that clearly disavows the poster usage and speaks to a policy of constitutionally informed cooperation with law enforcement. Now you might actually have something if it could be shown by the FBI/authorities that the organization hasn't cooperated with law enforcement.

    .

  8. perfect! Not that there was any doubt, this clearly frames you... and your agenda:

CAIR Pulls 'Don't Talk To FBI' Poster

The Council on American-Islamic Relations asked its California chapter to take down the image of a poster -- one that says, "Build a wall of resistance. Don't talk to the FBI" -- it used to promote a discussion about the FBI's tactics in recent terrorism investigations.

As soon as the national organization found out about the image last week -- about the same time Fox News and others began writing about it -- officials asked the chapter to pull it down, a CAIR spokesman tells TPM.

"It is not consistent with CAIR's policy of constitutionally informed cooperation with law enforcement," government affairs director Corey Saylor said.

"We're concerned that what would normally be a minor error will be overblown by people with a political agenda," he explained, saying the group used "extreme caution to make sure we don't send the wrong message to our community."

  9. From: https://www.liberal.ca/realchange/investing-in-our-military/

We will also reinvest in building a leaner, more agile, better-equipped military...

I think its the term "leaner" that make many people suspicious that the military might be gutted. (Not sure how exactly they expect to have a military that is both 'leaner' and 'better equipped', since those 2 things seem to be at cross purposes... unless they plan to drastically reduce the number of soldiers, while giving them better weapons. But if they do that, it can still be argued that the military has been "gutted".)

trying to keep this thread related... take the F-35 number @65 jets. Relative to the originally procured 138 CF-18s, that's a significant downsizing; even compared to the current 79 CF-18s in operation. Was the 65 number arrived at by "gutting"... or by evaluation of need subject to, for example, role definition, technology, efficiencies, trimming of the superfluous, etc.? Choosing to interpret "leaner" as "gutting" requires supporting evidence.

  10. I can sense another thread lock coming soon. It's hard to talk about a Muslim dude killing 49 people without talking about the problems with Islam.

you simply choose to ignore the "total package"... the mixed bag of presumptive motivations/influences driving the guy. It doesn't matter that authorities are most hesitant to, in the early days, speak to your same definitive assessment that singularly focuses on one thing, and one thing only.

    .

  11. uhhh, all good discussion... but about that CF-18 replacement thingee and criteria that might/should drive decisions:

domestic first, you say! Who knew... who knew!

April 2016: The statement of requirements is first and foremost written for a defence of Canada role. The fact that it may also have expeditionary capabilities is irrelevant to the discussion because both the number of aircraft and the requirements of that aircraft are built on a solution for...the defence of Canada.

  12. evangelical preacher Kevin Swanson shared the stage with Republican presidential candidates and gave a defense of killing gay people

Pastor Kevin Swanson is taking a victory lap after his headline-making National Religious Liberties Conference in Iowa earlier this month. After hosting Republican presidential candidates Ted Cruz, Mike Huckabee, and Bobby Jindal (who since left the race), the Colorado preacher who calls for gays who don’t repent to be sentenced to death went on radio to reflect on the “media firestorm” he created.

  13. The shooter was just living-up to his name sake...Omar. Slayer of Infidels.

really? My googly says the name has both Arabic and Hebrew attachments --- in Arabic the meaning of the name Omar is: Long-lived; In Hebrew the meaning of the name Omar is: Eloquent Speaker

did my googly fail me or are you just making (more) shyte up?

  14. ... 'cause there ain't boo coming out of Ottawa.

what's the point of you continuing to pine for the results from the ongoing Defence Policy Review... and what difference does it make to you anyway? Why is Canada just so important to you? Again, you've already been apprised that public consultations are currently underway across Canada. Please be patient: good results aren't cheap - cheap results aren't good!
