Canadian Political Polls
gordiecanuk replied to Vancouver King's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You can't overthrow a government you're already a part of...that's the dumbest bit of rhetoric in the whole coalition debate. -
Rome not only ripped books out of the Bible....they did everything they could to have them destroyed (Gnostic Gospels)....only God's grace sees them surviving to this day.

Immigration is a foundation of Canadian society, we all know that. Reducing immigration during a period of economic difficulty...while it would make the 'red neck' fringe very happy, it would hurt us in the long run. Canada's education system is sadly lacking in providing employers with skilled and technical employees. Sure we're great at producing students adept in the areas of Liberal arts and critical thinking, but that doesn't help a company desperately seeking someone who knows how to use java script or other specialized skills. Even in a recession there is demand for highly skilled workers...demand that our education system isn't meeting. Sure we're exploiting the educational systems of countries like India and China, but what the heck...if our's isn't meeting the demand we'll look elsewhere.

I don't see the Senate blocking it, the only time I can recall the Senate blocking legislation was when Mulroney signed the FTA without putting it to the electorate first...after he got re-elected the Lib dominated Senate passed it. I could see them kicking it back and making reccomendations...but eventually it would pass. Of course its all contingent on Harper getting a majority, so we'll probably know in less than a year whether or not this discussion is moot.
-
The only way Harper touches this issue is with a majority mandate, he's on record as saying "this" government will not be doing anything on abortion...any private members bills will be shuffled off to committee never again to see the light of day. I could see them allowing one to get past first reading, but nothing beyond that. When we elect our "next" government, if its a Tory majority...then I think Harper would tackle it early in a mandate.

Mr Canada, given your lack of tolerance for those who don't ascribe to your brand of Christianity....labels like bigot and troll are part of the territory.

Better listen to MC punked....or you don't get to heaven. But upon careful consideration, if MC is gonna be there...maybe its not a place worth visiting. -
The Canadian Version of Subprime Mortgages

Big biz screws the pooch and comes running to government for help, but their advocates are dead set against social programs. I think this is the very definition of duplicity. -
There are very few (any?) Cons who represent Canada's 3 largest cities...Toronto/Montreal/Vancouver. They are however very well represented in rural areas where immigrants are tokens at best.

So a pagan emperor of Rome assembles a group...a group of Bishops and Priests of his choosing. And Peter agreed to being 1st Bishop of this abomination? Oooops, sorry...he was already dead and decomposed when all this happened.
-
So a pagan Roman Emperor, Constantine, gets to define and regulate the Christian faith??? LoL that's hilarious. And they claim Peter as their first bishop even though he's been dead almost 300 years??? No wonder so many people think religion is screwed.

Damn, with all those programs I guess single mothers must be one of Canada's most economically advantaged groups!!! -

The debate seems to be pay now or pay later. Whether its the Big 3 or mortgages, if things are allowed to disintegrate (sp?) then the social costs will be enourmous, but of course so are the costs of propping things up. -

So foodbanks and the John Howard society or whatever....just don't raise your taxes, got it. We'll legislate morality fine...just don't expect us to pay anything for it, go see someone else. Very Christian of you. -
They can still call themselves Catholic MC...Catholic means universal, they're just not "Roman" Catholic.
-
Actually...who would be better qualified to judge who's Christian or not? An atheist or agnostic would probably the best judge. Many of the protestant evangelical ilk paint Roman Catholics as non-Christians because they pray to saints and make graven images of them. Some Catholics say the same of protestants, based on their view that when Rome took Christianity over around 300AD that it became God's one and only "true" church.

There is a quote, but its from the Pentatch (sp?) the Bible's first 5 books...and MC has already said his faith isn't guided by Mosaic Law.

The US economy and to a lesser degree Canada's...we've been feeding our properity on the crack cocaine of cheap credit. My fav term coming out of this mess is that of NINJA loans. NINJA stands for loans given to those with NO Income, NO Job or Assets. -
Christians can be funny punked, God is God but the laws in the OT don't apply...well, some of them do and some don't. God made a new covenant, so some of the old unchangeable laws of the Almighty were...well not changed, uhm...just amended.

No I'm not, but for those that do abort for economic reasons, what do you think?...let's stick to a single group for this discussion, to make things easy, single mothers. Would you be in favour of providing tax credits and goverment funded subsidies to ensure a decent standard of living for single mothers and their children? -
I'm only seeing 3 votes favouring a Pro-Life stance, the rest are Pro-Choice to varying degrees....all recognizing a woman's right to choose, with some placing limitations based on how far along the pregnancy is.
-
I always like to see the exact wording of the questions before passing judgment, but I tend to agree with you....Angus/Gallup etc, the larger polling companies tend to be very neutral. When i was "push" polled during the election it was by a polling company hired by the Tories, one I'd never heard of.
-
Looking at the numbers from the poll you posted MC it appears MLW posters overwhelming endorse a woman's right to choose. I didn't fully understand most of the options, up to 1/3/9 months from what??? From the point of conception or until the due date?
-
Polling methodology is very important. Pose the questions the right way and you can get the answer you want. Ask Canadians this question... Do you think it would be better for Canada to stick with a proven leader like Stephen Harper, or switch to a new PM in this period of economic uncertainty? Asking in that fashion will skew the results in favour of Mr Harper. Its an example of what's called "PUSH" polling. By sticking the word "proven" into the question with respect to Harper's leadership it pushes an idea on the poll respondent. I had one of these calls during our last election, its apparently very common in US politics.

Mr. C....serious question. How would you feel about generous tax credits and subsidies for single mothers in Canada? If we criminalize abortion, why not provide a decent standard of living for these women and their children...Thoughts?
