We could take this all the way back to the Plains of Abraham if you would like. The British were victorious yet decided to allow the French to remain and be fully intouch with their culture and religion. What is stopping you from doing whatever you want in Quebec as it is?

Montreal would join Ontario or else they would lose the Habs! I actually agree with you for once as well Danceypoo

I sympathize with you in this battle you are waging. Keep it up.

It made me wonder if they wrote it up on the spot after Harper was finished. It was wierd how CTV didn't get it at the same time as the CBC.

Canadians did not vote for the conservatives to govern.
ThatGuy replied to -VMG-'s topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The comments that we indeed elect the members themselves is true. But, at the same time, many people vote for an individual based on their party affiliation. But again, a member doesn't have to vote with their party, or may even decide to sit with another party after elected, or not even run under a party banner at all. -
Harper taking to airwaves in bid to save government
ThatGuy replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
That is yet to be seen right. If they vote against matters that aren't of confidence it doesn't really matter. I am thinking that they have to support the coalition 3 times, and that is it. -
Obviously, no one is moving to Ontario

As long as rediculous comments on this forum are pro-tory, I suppose they can stay.

Harper taking to airwaves in bid to save government

Remember, someone needs to vote with the conservatives in order to get things passed anyway. If the Bloc voted with them, is that not supporting a government? technicalities...whatever -

Nevermind, found the answer. Didn't know this was University creation. I should have done something like this while at UWO. Good job troops. -
Any help would be much appreciated.

Does anyone think that cutting the GST was a good idea?

I hope that the GG is watching with a panel of constitutional experts. -
I live in Ontario and I am a huge Edmonton Oilers fan. If anything I think that Westerners think "central" Canadians think about them too much.

That sounds lovely.

Could this all be part of Harper's plan?
ThatGuy replied to ThatGuy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Harper and Flaherty sitting in the PMO sharing a laugh about how they hammered out a solid minority. Harper looks to Flaherty, the failed Finance Minister and tactition from Ontario and says, "What should the first thing we do as a strong minority be Jim?" Flaherty then responds, "Well, we could look to anihilate the opposition while they are already down by removing public funding from them under the guise of tough economic times Steve." Thus, all hell breaks loose. -

Ya, but it is Christmas, you will spend the money anyway. What happens on January 1st when the economy is still in trouble? -

If someone has enough money to go buy a car right now, they could afford to pay 15%* *former Ontario PST + GST rate. -

Ok, I can live with that assessment of the poor and the income tax break. I guess it just comes back to my thinking that the poor aren't going to see much in terms of GST savings due to their low spending power. But, they could see somewhat of a bump in terms of keeping lower end jobs via the business benefit from credit fluidity and some form of financial barrier against the crisis we are in.
