  1. What Parrish did was loss control of herself and her mouth at the moment. Personally, I couldn't care less whether she likes Americans or not but this is the second time she has shot off at the mouth. This shows a lack of control on her own part. By her own statements after the fact, she couldn't even remember saying the coalition of idiots. It seems a lot people here who are on her side say they want a politician to say it as they see it but a lot of you screamed for heads when some Cons viewed their personal views on abortion and gay rights. They were called bigots and all sorts of names. Calls for dismissal and public appologies were called for all over the place. Now that a politician has made a public statement showing her utter disregard for diplomacy, it is fine just because it is anti american. You can't have it both ways.
  2. I agree with you caesar on that we have to clean up the environment and that we have a long way to go yet. As for global warming, I still do not view it as viable science but then again, I may change my mind if more evidence is shown. I am more concerned about the shape of our rivers, lakes and general air. I wouldn't let my dog swim in the Fraser river, I am sure caesar knows how sad that river is. Kyoto could be a good thing but the Liberals will try their best to screw up everything on this one too. As always, we get the feeling of east=good, west=bad from the Liberals. Look at the way the Liberals made the automobile manufacturing plants exemptions from kyoto but yet the oil industry looks like will have to bear the full brunt of kyoto. Last time I looked, we have no car manufacturing out here and there is not much oil exploration out there aside from NFLD. How many more exemptions are we going to see and how many will be in Liberal friendly east? As with so many things that are supposed to have a positive impact on our lives, I am sure the Liberals will screw this one up too.
  3. I can't really say I admire a lot of politicians aside from the fact that they had the guts to run for office. I, like TN am rather impatient with a lot of things and I doubt I would be able to keep my mouth shut in public. I would just end up calling someone an idiot in public and get my butt in hot water. I think I would much rather be the guy that keeps things under control from behind the scenes. Sort of like a consultant and behind the scenes butt kicker.
  4. The police did the right thing by shooting this guy. Others lives were in imminent danger and the police responded as they should have. Tasers have their uses but would not have been a weapon of option in this case. MS, would you have liked to get within 15 feet of this mutt and then try to shoot him with a weapon that has minimal accuracy at the best of times? Probably not because you, the hostage and probably the whacko would be all dead now. 1 funeral compared to 3 is quite a bit of difference.
  5. She may not like the Americans or their policies but the way she worded it is not very professional. As a politician, she should have attacked the program, not the people behind it. If you want to call someone an idiot, then do it in a public debate where that person or group can defend their position. She knew she screwed up, look at the way she begged the media not to print what she said.
  6. Which btw has been illegal to do for many years, even under the old gun rules. Criminals and whackos will still get their hands on guns despite whatever laws are in place. This guy should have been in jail long ago getting some of his own medicine.
  7. The whole process for picking our judges is a complete farse. One person gets to decide whom has the ultimate power in Canada and that is BS. Of course the PM should be able to make recommendations but ultimately the decision should be up to a parlimnetary panel made up percentile representation from each party. By this I mean, if the liberals have 40% of the seats, then they can send 40% of the panel. Each party would be equally represented in this manner. This panel should also be allowed to reject any and all recommendations the PM makes. Maybe, this way we may get more center oriented judges than judges who swing left or right. The current system is nothing but a sham because the PM can stack the court with judges who lean a certain way and then just shrug when people don't agree with the courts decision by saying he had nothing to do with it. The current system also allows for no checks on who the PM decides should be a judge. MS has inderectly called the US a facist country in another thread but we live in a democratic dictatorship in Canada.
  8. LMAO, you know as well as I do, the money would be spent on useless stuff like free haircuts and crap for our politicians. The only tax cuts there would be would only benefit the politicians and their ilk. Any miniscule amount we might get would be irelevant to out annual take home pay.
  9. My first preference is that the government should not be in the business of doing business but with PetroCan, we have a company that shows a fairly decent return and has made profits. I don't seem to remember too many scandals when it comes to PetroCan either. If the long term forcast shows that the company would have kept making money, then why not keep it and use those profits to benefit Canadians? Now the Liberals have "X" number of dollars that they will just piss away in the wind with no future return.
  10. I didn't watch the whole thing right to the end, couldn't keep my eyes open anymore but the show definately leaned towards blaming the geologist and the founder of Bre-X. If peoplel had doen their research before investing, they would have found both of these men had quite dubious pasts.
  11. A skunk (the liberal party) can't change his colours. It seems quite obvious that anytime something might be good for the Canadian public, the liberals have to skew it and fix it so that they are still in complete control.
  12. thought this was a post about the Olympics. Jealousy gets you nowhere MS
  13. I tend to agree with TN here on a culture in Alberta. It may not be so much obvious as the French culture of Quebec. The culture could much more be related to the working style and the strong agricultural background in many of our lives. Call it a redneck type of culture if you like. You also have to remember that Quebec or any province east of Manitoba has been around much longer than Alberta so we have some catching up to do. We all have to remember that each province has it's strong and weak points. Be it from our language or major cultural influence, we are all unique in our own way.
  14. Uh huh, I see caesar still hates Alberta, hates the US and uttering intolerances. If you haven't noticed, most Albertans don't really whine, they can be po'd for a while, then they get back on with life and look towards tomorrow. In this sort of situation, Alberta would probably do what ever it takes to survive. This would be keeping an amiable relationship with the rest of Canada and the US. Yeah, they would probably seperate but not cut off BC like caesar would imply. What would be the point, we consider ourselves above playing childish games. When was the last time or ever you were to Alberta caesar because you fundamentally do not understand Alberta at all? You label anyone who does not like a situation you agree with a whinner but yet if we do not agree with you, then we are illterate.
  15. I don't know if this one will help you MS, but I found it interesting some debt info As for my favorite PM and Premier. In the PM category, it would be easier to say whom I do not like than whom I like. I would have to go all the way back to the Defienbaker era or earlier to pick one I like. As for Premier, it would have to be Klein.
  16. LMFAO MS, I just want to thank you for making me laugh, damn near spit coffee all over the screen when I read this. For a lefty, this has to be the worst case of discrimination that I have ever seen. You want to punish people who do not speak french. Yes, punish because then we would have to pay extra taxes to make up for the few that do speak fluent french. Oh yeah, we would also have to pay for the machines that do the testing and the up keep of them. What about those of us that are bilingual but do not speak French, where is our reward? I use my second language a heck of a lot more than french. What about all of our seniors whom have no inclination or need to learn french, are they to be punished too? This is a non-workable solution for your desire to kiss quebec butt MS, it would only backfire as people do not appreciate or want the big brother scenario you propose to make everyone bilingual. Plenty of posters have responded that they do not feel it is up to the ROC to make the first step this time, Quebec also has to show some desrie to be a part of Canada which they clearly show they do not. All they do is laugh all the way to the bank everytime we send them another stransfer cheque. I still say we put the whole bilingual thing to a national referendum and let the people decide what they want, not a bunch of over paid butt kissers in Ottawa who have never been past Ontario.
  17. I thought that there is a stipulation about the sizing of the other language too? I seem to remember that the French portion has to be larger than say the English. Correct me if I am wrong. Bakunin is correct that Quebec and ROC are different cultures. Just look at the differences between France and England, the basis for both of our cultures. Forcing people to accept these cultures will not work. The problem is that there really is not a common goal that both Quebec and the ROC can agree on.
  18. The problem with this theory MS is, where do you say enough is enough? A 5% return or 100% return on your investment? If the government is going to take the majority of my earnings, which they do already, why should I bust my hump trying to improve my financial situation through hard work? Why should I take the risk so the government can take my money and blow it on useless crap. I treat my staff well and there are times they make better money than I do but they are extremely loyal and do a damn good job for me. Why should I bother to make more money if the government takes it all. I may as well just keep the status quo which is not a benefit to the community because I could be creating more jobs if I wanted to.
  19. I suppose this does not include any actions by Quebec and their language policies? This has to be a 2 way street and I see no evidence of this at all where Quebec is concerned. I have been to Quebec, didn't get treated very well at all, we were immigrants from another country. Got treated so poorly that we decided to move west. Why does this always turn around to be a bigotry thing if a person is not in favour of bilingualism? Is the cost of bilingualism really worth all this BS? I can think of countless better ways to spend our tax dollars. Let Quebec run their province the way they see fit and let the ROC do the same. Why not put official bilingualism up for a national referendum? It might be rather interesting to see what the results are. It only has to be 50% plus 1, right?
  20. I think we should all be proud of our athletes and their accomplishments. They do their best whether they win any medals or not. I do not think we (the general tax payer) should have to pay for it. If you want to support an athlete, then dust off the cheque book and send a donation. I have a hard enough time affording to keep my kids in a sports program. Besides, the Olympics are not the best example of sports heros anymore. With the continual drug scandals, crooked judging and so forth, why would I want my kids to be like that? Winning isn't everything, doing to the best of your abilities and have a good time is much more important.
  21. You are talking about forced bilingualism MS and that just does not work. A second language should be a choice. Why do we not see the same rules apply in Quebec as you figure we should have in the ROC? I am bilingual but can not speak French. I will encourage my kids to learn a second language but it will be the language of their choice. Enacting new and more language laws across Canada will not appease Quebec in the least. In all honesty, they don't really give a hairy rats butt what goes on in the ROC. They prefer to look after their own interests first which is their business. We should look after our own interests and stop wasting our hard earned dollars on bilingualism.
  22. Then people can leave the house a few minutes earlier. I hate being late but I won't risk others or myself by driving like a moron to get there on time. I think the speed limits are more or less fine, at least around here. If you were truly serious about obtaining optimal gas milage, then you would see all vehicles governed out at around the maximum speed limit anywhere in Canada. But can you imagine the fury this would cause? Even most European countries wouldn't touch that one with a 10 foot pole.
  23. Well caesar, here in Alberta we refer to BC as "Bring Cash" but as you state repeatedly, we Albertans are just whinners. There is nothing wrong with low income kids getting a boost to help them get into university as long as they have the grades to warrant it. The argument will always return to "they get more than I so that is not fair and I don't like it". BC has seemingly proven that a tuition cap does not work because the universities just let in more foreign students because the caps did not include them. All university and college students should be there because they earned it, not because their folks can afford it. I may be biased but I feel that the young people coming out of college or university are dumber than my generation but our folks probably said the same about us. I say dumber because a lot of young people seem to have very few life skills anymore. They can not cook unless it is a complete meal bought at Safeway. They can not fix much around the house. They can't even grow a few veggies to enjoy. So what do we get? Well a lot of young people that can speak a lot of fancy words and type on a computer but really do not know very much about the harsh reality of life that you have to work to get what you want. So as I stated before, there is nothing wrong with helping students as long as they deserve the help. At least I know that everything I have in life I have worked hard for. I feel when you have to struggle to achieve a goal, you appreciate it a bit more once you accomplish it.
  24. I have been to several large cities in Europe, the US and Canada. Daytime or night time, I always felt more secure in Canadian cities but that could be because of familiarity. I found some parts of US cities definate sections where you would not want the cab or bus to break down. I have found the same in some Canadian cities too and East Hastings definately comes to mind. Most European cities were not so much a problem and didn't notice too many so called ghetto areas. I would rank European cities definately cleaner then either US or Canadian cities. I found the US and Canadian cities were fairly similar cleanliless wise. Some areas were dirtier than others. As a preference, I like Canadian cities, I find most of the people friendlier there. I think we need to emphasize more pride in Canada, it is a good place to live.
