Did you bother to read your own link. It states that Churchill's statements before the war have been misquoted or taken out of context. His job as first lord of the Admiralty was to make sure the British fleet was prepared to counter the massive buildup in the German High Seas Fleet

Read carefully.
I gave this link precisely to show how the elite in the 1910s - like now - think.
======
The Thirty Years between 1914-1945 were a disaster for Europe.
In 1912, ordinary people had hope. By 1946, many were dead.
Churchill in part caused this disaster. To his credit, Keynes changed his mind.

This is the popular American perception. Some American politicians want to be the next Churchill.

Disagree. Island people are practical.
In smaller islands, the women in particular.

But I agree that island people are different. The Japanese are different from the Chinese, and the British from the French.

Yet you still support the guy and defend him daily? Or Jagmeet who talks about how hard people have it wearing a 15 thousand dollar rolex?

I don't support either guy
But we Canadians have created a civilised place in the world: a federal state with two federal official languages but no official cultural. We get along.

LEGALLY ELECTED PRESIDENT TRUMP violated no law. The only reason the Nazis are going after him is because most polls show him beating the shee it out of UNELECTED JOE, and this is the only way those goose steppers can stop it.
Wow!
IMHO, you Americans have a sustainable society for only some two hundred years
China? For some 5000 years.
Russia/Slavs? Some 1000 years - despite various invasions. A Mongol horde for 200 years, the Turks in Bulgaria for longer.
Mongols? Turks?

And you Americans are going to dominate the world?

Because a capital gain creates no wealth - it is purely inflationary. One major reason housing is so expensive now is the free ride on the public of primary residence capital gains.
On a larger scale why does it matter? By pushing money into the speculative markets you defund main street - where ALL wealth is created. Banks/financiers love it because they now control the entire economy and governments while bloating their purse through wealth re-distribution from inflation.
Purely inflationary?
Disagree.

Everyone in Quebec says that Trump is a bad guy. Check what he did with SALT.

1. The US federal spending obligations and tax revenues are unsustainable
2. A US federal government must impose a federal sales tax.

While you're at it, help us put the arseholes suggesting Inheritance Taxea heads on those pikes too. You boomer folks saved that dough for you not the govt.
I am not talking about a wealth tax - many of us pay property taxes. (Why? This is a true wealth tax.)
I think that people should pay tax on their income - (I would prefer people pay tax on their spending .)

Seriously?
Because it never was and would be political suicide to even suggest. You'd need a leader with the stubbornness and willing to fall on his sword like Brian Mulroney to sneak it in out of the blue....
I think that I now understand the secret of the Democrats and federal Liberals in urban areas.
I was recently in Portland, Oregon. NIMBY.

I hear you and I read you. Kissinger is dead. Who has an idea of what would work? A new Westphalia peace? You have 3 great powers, all with major flaws.
Australians always seek protection.
The British oppose any dominant European power.
English-Canadians apparently tend to seek survival.
French-Canadians are stubborn as hell.

This is a foolish war of nationalism. Young men are dying for nothing.

I'm serious about this.
Why is the capital gain of a principal residence exempt from tax?
Yet people struggling to change their life, get a job, lose their various benefits

1. I sure didn't say THAT.
2. So ? That was 35 years ago right ?
Michael,
You? Not at all. I'm fearful that certain Americans (Jake Sullivan for example) want to change the Russian state.
In 1815 and 1945, we created a structure of peace. In 1991, there was an earthquake - we need a new system.

Regime change in Russia?
Is that the end-game of America in this Ukraine war?
And is China next?

Reagan defeated the Soviets - for the good of us all. Be happy, go home.

To me, a dollar earned through labour should be taxed in the same way as a dollar earned through savings.
Why should a capital gain be taxed any differently from a work gain?

Intelligence? WDC? Gimme a break.
Churchill would never have done that. In the midst of a war, Roosevelt - no use of his legs (plane crash, he's dead) - flew from Malta to Yalta, Cairo to Tehran.
Stalin? He took the train to Potsdam.

This is not the late 1940s with a duopoly.
Since the 1990s, America won.
Like it or not, we are back in a multi-polar world.

Are you seriously asking why the elected leader of the United States is important?
Trudeau Snr - like Churchill in the 1940s - understood that they were a symbol of the State.

IMHO, since 1991 or so, and I admire your Constiitution, you Americans have been screwing things up.

Eyeball, AG,
After 1815, there was a structure of peace. Ordinary people lived well from 1815-1914.
In 1914, this structure fell apart - the elite killed itself, and for ordinary people, the next thirty years were a disaster.
====
IMHO: We must avoid this catastrophe.

Kissinger & Trudeau Snr
in Political Philosophy
Posted
Kissinger was born in 1923. Trudeau in 1919. I never met Kissinger. Trudeau was short. By all accounts, both loved to flirt with women.
Kissinger's mother tongue was German; Trudeau's English - and yet both worked best in another language.
Trudeau was a Catholic, Kissinger a Jew. Trudeau avoided the war; Kissinger was an interpreter.
=====
Both men viewed the world correctly.
