  1. Is Bush worried about legacy now? What the hell was he doing the first 7 years? Building infamy?
  2. Basically I think Harper shoudl have brought this issue to parliament and had a vote on it as it changes previous Canadian actions on the matter and will affect any future cases when they come up. I don't think it should have been such a rash decision as this was not Canadian policy in the past.
  3. Anyways, obviously we are going to argue into eternity over semantics. Regardless of whether Canada or the States are morons at Geography, that argument has past. The only thing that matters for this thread is that Bush sucked as a president. I am pretty sure after reading your posts that we agree on that at least.
  4. Whatever, deflect deflect deflect. The article did not suggest what you are saying at all. Neither did the survey results, as far as we know, because we don;t have the complete results, only the results regarding Americans. Which is what the article focused on in entirely except one sentence that you are trying to use to deflect any further comment.
  5. But Palestinians did not have control over this area called Palestine, the British did at that time.
  6. I believe it is you who are obsessing over one word posted in an article and not the entire point of said article. It didn't suggest that people in industrialized western nations do poorly at geography it suggest the States do. And it merely said Canada and Great Britian did not fare much better. It didn't actually say they did poorly or go into details on what they didn't get right. It also didn't give statistical data about these questions. There is no way for me to say with certainty anything regarding Canadian test results as I don't have anything to back it up with.
  7. Other than this survey agenda, I do agree with your sentiments regarding Bush, Amercian Woman.
  8. I never made ANY statement about aboriginals so why would I need to prove or provide evidence to back up no claim? I only commented on your post regarding Palestine, that's it. It was a poor analogy.
  9. Considering I don't know how poorly they did but know exactly how poorly the States did leaves me with no choice on who to focus on. Now if National Geographic had released these results for all countries participants than I would agree, but all I know is that out of 9 countries mine fell somewhere between 4th and 7th, which leaads me more to believe they were middle of the pack. More over, there was no details on what questions Canadians did poorly on and what particular aspects of Geography were poorest, which as I have stated before the survey results link I posted has for the States and goes into great details. Also, the article you keep talking about doesn't say Canadians are "Geographically Illiterate", but it does say that about another participant nation. I'll leave that up to you to find out, but I won't use a map.
  10. Fighting is unneccessary although I still enjoy a good scrap in an NHL game, but 8 year olds? I don't think it becomes a part of the game until you are in your teens. These kids barely know fundamentals and I wouldn't call fighting a fundamental of hockey. But you are correct, hockey is violent.
  11. So people in 9 countries were interviewed and Canada and Great Britain fell somewhere from 4th to 7th. It doesn't go into detail concerning what Canadians did, probably because the article was written by Americans for Americans. It does how ever go into the failings of Americans and if you read the survey results link I posted, it goes into greater detail regarding this. It gives percentages of what people knew for a multitude of questions. Almost as poorly isn't AS poorly. So regardless of what you are trying to say, Americans are terrible at Geography, while Canadians fare better.
  12. I'm not sure where to put this topic but I wanted peoples opinions on the issue. Why are 8 year olds engaging in hockey brawls? Is this telling of violence in sport and who should be held accountable, just the coaches or parents as well? http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2007/11/26/hockey-brawl.html
  13. I totally agree about the news networks. It like listening to CBC radio late night as they have news shows from Amsterdam, Germany and other spots. If we could get a Russian news show that would be fantastic. Currently I can get French and German.
  14. Just proving your point? I just proved you completely wrong. You were spouting crap about a Palestinian Nation which never existed. You posted a link to prove it did, and I posted links showing that you don't know what you're talking about. Palestine has only existed as a part of a larger nation never an independent state. Who said anything about reinstating the Ottomans? Which is impossible anyways as they no longer exist. They are now called Turkey. Which is much like what you sound like.
  15. American Woman, please read the findings of the survey. It doesn't even discuss how other nations fared. The only line you are using is that other countries did not fare well either. However even that articale states the US is geographically illiterate and fare far worse. http://www.nationalgeographic.com/roper200...ogLitsurvey.pdf If you read the results and findings you'll see why I posted it. It is very telling. Or you can simply ignore it because I am Canadian.
  16. You better not bring up polls or surveys, Bush_Cheney doesn't believe them. 987 people in this one...thats tiny isn't Bush_Cheney? hehe.
  17. Hahahahah. Your link is garbage Queen. You map is Titled: "Palestine 1946: Districts and District Centers During the Mandate Period." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Mandate_of_Palestine "The British Mandate for Palestine, sometimes referred to as the Mandate of Palestine, was a League of Nations Mandate created after the First World War when the Ottoman Empire was split by the Treaty of Sèvres." And beofre this mandate, the region of Palestine was a part of the Ottoman Empire, and before that...well you can figure it out from here...hopefully.
  18. I would scream "LALALLALALALLALALLALALAL" And set fire to my desk.
  19. I don't mind that the Christians used pagan holidays and superceded their own to match. As stated it helped spread Christianity and ease peoples transitions to it. It is unfortunate that we don't know the actuasl birthdate of Christ, but it really doesn't matter. Christmas still retains much of its pagan character as much as it was attempted to make it a purely religious holiday. It is a great time of year and a good excuse to be among family and friends. There can't be much wrong with that no matter what it's name is.
  20. Queen, almost all of the countries on the list with no personal taxation are tiny. The others are oil wealthy and derive no direct personal income tax but they still tax their citizens and gain revenue through other streams. The only one I couldn't figure out is Somalia who is neither rich nor small, but I am guessing they do not have personal income tax because the government has no way to enforce itself enough to collect those taxes. They have too many warlords etc... By showing this list you also kind of make a point against yourself, because many of these governments are authoritarian and undemocratic. Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Brunei, Kuwait, Monaco, Qatar, The U.A.E. all have kings, shahs, sultans, emirs and Princes. No one votes for them, nor do they share power.
  21. TAKE THE RED PILL!!!!!!!! If you can find me a system of government that can govern over million of people peacably and that does not include some form of taxation then you shoudl push for it. I am fairly sure that our system far outweighs the cons of an actual dictatorship. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dictatorship I think you need to read before you throw big words around that you have no conceptual knowledge of. However, based on your writing and punctuational skills, or lack thereof, it is not hard to see why this may be a problem for you. Dictatorships imply an autocracy, meaning the rule of one man/woman. I suggested earlier I thought you may mean that Canada is ruled by an oligarchy, which is definitely open for debate.
  22. Hey Queen, You could always take the red pill and get the hell out of the Matrix man.... also tin foil on your head doesn't actually work.
  23. I never said that others countries did excellently, and actually only the Mexicans did worse than Americans, so I guess that is some consolation for you. The results don't actually say where Canada and the other countries fall, just that they do not do well either, however they did much better than the United States OVERALL, as the survey findings suggests. The reason the posts are fixated on Americans is because in the links I gave for NAtional Geographic, CNN and the survey results, they too are almost entirely fixated on the United States performance, go figure. I didn't create the survey or the findings, and the survey was conducted by an American company so don't point fingers at me for the poor results.
  24. We had a flags before the maple leaf...It was quite nice too witht he Union Jack in the corner, quite like the Australian and New Zealand flags. It was the red ensign, which I have just realized was the point of this post anyways, hehe. Here are some of the flags that represented us here: http://www.canada4life.ca/flags.php
  25. It has been well documented about Alexander the Great's homosexual partners. He was Greek/Macedonian afterall! I don't think there is a gay conspiracy working there...some great people in thie history of the world were gay...so what? Never heard that Napoleon was..I'm sure a couple of composers could have been but not all. Anyways I doubt Alexander would care admitting he slept with men as in that time homosexual acts with men and pedophillic acts with boys were quite normal.
