Private Healthcare? Why Not?
ScottSA replied to FascistLibertarian's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The fact that we can go to the states IS a two tier system in canada. Someone who lives in canada and has access to the US has access to a two tier system; they can wait in endless lines here, or go to the states. The availability of the states depends on their pocketbook. We already have a two-tier system. I agree with user fees, although I don't think they will solve the problem. -
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/arti...d=1770&ito=1490 Believe it or not, the British bombers were Islamic! I'm sure it must have come as a shock to those who were convinced it must have been the Templars or the Scottish Council for the Legalization of Sheep Shagging or some such, but it's true! What's even more surprising is that it's not "ignorant misguided impoverished youth." It's bonafide brilliant folks, well educated, and well to do! Well, this just doesn't fit with any of our leftist stereotypes...we can't blame poverty, or ignorance, or racism...why, all that's left to blame is Islam. But it's a religion of peace, right? To paraphrase an old Star Trek episode, a lot of Islamic apologists must be saying: "Does not compute. Does not compute. *sputter* *fizzle* Does not com...*clack*"

Sure it is. And pool tournaments are great. Perhaps the Weimar republic ought to have sponsored pool tournaments between brownshirts and Jews too. I'm sure it would have made a world of difference. About as much world of difference as a pimple on the backside of an elephant.

So a two tier system is ok if we don't call it a two tier system then? It's good for rich folks to get paid for care, as long as it's not here? What ridiculous logic! -
Should global warming result in global cooling
ScottSA replied to noahbody's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Woe Woe upon the children of men! Good greif...look at any science fiction film from the 80s...look at the "ozone layer" problem they were convinced we were going to have. Most of them showed us here in the 2000s covered in blue gunk sunscreen to kep from being irradiated. Guess what? No one does. Look at the sci fi films from the 70s...we were supposed to be living in an ice age. From the 60s...computers and robots were supposed to have taken us over by now. Every age has its trolls under the bed. This is no diffent at all. If you read the article carefully, it is alarmist panic from one single individual, amplified by the reporter's selective choice of words. Ever stop to wonder why Singapore, perhaps the most concentrated and expanded urban heat island in the world, is singled out as an example of a temperature increase? Even the most rapid enviro-freaks in academia concede that urban heat islands throw off the measurements, but here we have a very selective use of Singapore as representative. Then of course we have interesting little constructs like this: "Rising global temperatures are melting Himalayan glaciers..." So, we are asked to believe that the European warm periods were all localized events, but melting Himalayan glaciers are obviously indicative of global events? That increases in the arctic shelves are local phenomenon, but decreases in the antarctic are global? Malaria is a good one. It's been spreading for years and years, and the foremost senior "contributor" to the IPCC has already resigned in disgust over his views being manipulated in the report to draw conclusions radically different from what he said. Here's is what we ought to be doing about malaria: http://www.buzzle.com/editorials/3-25-2004-52181.asp , not fabricating nonsense about global warming. This article is a showpiece of cynical manipulation. -
I'm not telling you how to live at all. I couldn't care less where you live. I'm just asking why you think anyone else should care where you live either, or fund your choices? If you want to live in poverty in a paid for house instead of going somewhere else to get a job, fill yer boots. If your son feels he would be better placed staying home with his wife instead of working, then so be it. If you're arguing that working on the rigs is hard, yeah I know it is...I actually spent two months working as a roughneck a couple years ago...hardest work I ever did, and not a worthwhile life for anyone. But it's not clear to me what your point is. Do you expect the rest of the country to pay for your wishes? Do you expect the rest of the folks in the country to abolish the rigs because they're hard and the work is in the boonies? What's your point? WEll junior if you don't get my point you don't read very well. You have no idea what you are talking about, you haven't live 70 odd years as I have, just wait. Your turn will come and I hope it is not as bad as the world I see you and your ilk creating. Well, at 48 I'm not all that junior to you, but I still don't know what your point is.

I've never heard of a comparision of auto and home insurance between the US and Canada,is there a big difference in those two? My point was about private health insurance. Where I lived in Oklahoma you could purcahse your auto, home and health insurance from the same company and get reduced rates.... You know weaponeer, you are the kind of person who should pay for health care, if you have that kind of money. What exactly is the medium income in North Bay? I'm sure he'd love to, but that's the whole point. Under the canadian system he can't. Oh but he already does, read his posts, he goes back to the US for his healthcare. Thats what he should be doing. So you're in favor of a two-tier healthcare system then? How logical of you. How conservative of you. Why, that's downright Reform Partyish of you! -
The trouble with the moderates who are allegedly 'reaching out' is that on the one hand they claim it's all a small number of radicals, but on the other they push with all their might by directly exploiting the terror. Even the British government is finally waking up to the good cop/bad cop routine. It goes like this: Someone blows something up or tries. Great outcry from the Muslim community, usually not about Islamic terrorism, but about the poor Muslims who have to live in terror lest someone say something rude to them. Then the alleged moderates "reject" terrorism, but warn that it will happen again and again unless X happens (change in foreign policy etc). In effect, they are using blackmail...rarely if ever has an allegedly "moderate" Islamic leader simply and unequivalently condemned terrorism. The big mosque should be shut down before it even gets off the ground. Building it is tantamount to allowing the Reichstag with a giant swastika to be built and then sitting back with a shiteating grin celebrating the "vibrant diversity" that allowed it.

Regal us with some of these alleged atrocities. Make us cluefull.

As one of the meekest and most unopinionated posters here, I'd like to offer my services as one of the Moderator Youth facilitators. Do we get cool uniforms with armbands? Do we get to carry torches and act tough? Can we like break windows and burn books with impugnity?

An opinion. Not mine originally, but mine now.

That's what I think too. The pendulum will shift the other way. From one extreme to the other. And yes, it will be ugly.Europe has never been able to find a middle ground on much of anything. The new countries of the US, Canada and Australia, and to a lesser extent the UK have. The beheading of Charles and the Glorious Revolutio nthat followed was a walk in the park compared to the French Revolution. I wouldn't be so smug about the New World yet. Islam is merely the first stirrings of a much greater problem that we're walking into with our eyes wide shut too. -

...and the heavens will open and Jehovah will bellow through a reverberating tin can "Woe, woe upon thee, children of men!" I will send the twentyseven plagues upon thy doorsteps... Give me a friggin' break. Even the last IPCC report predicts a 4" rise in sea level over the next 100 years for Christ's sake. -
Private Healthcare? Why Not?
ScottSA replied to FascistLibertarian's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
18,000 a year in the U.S. according to a recent study die because they can't afford healthcare. http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/health...ance-deaths.htm Forgive me if I don't even bother opening the "study." Anyone who has even been within spitting distance of the ivory halls knows very well that "recent studies" pretty much reach a priori conclusions. My understanding is that public healthcare takes over from private when a certain threshold is reached. My understanding is that no person in the US is denied healthcare. Without looking at the study, I'll hazard a guess that the argument is that public healthcare does an inadequate job of providing for the people whoi use it...am I right? Consider then the thousands of people in canada...every single one of us, who are dying for exactly the same reason...long lines and inadequate healthcare. In fact, I bet this is more a condemnation of public healthcare than of private. -
http://www.canadacouncil.ca/grants/writing...29682968750.htm http://www.publishers.ca/publishing-writing-grants.htm See "creative writing" http://www3.sympatico.ca/susanio/WWClinks.html Spend time googling "writing grants canada" and associated topics. If there's one thing Canada is good at, it's financing candian arts on the off chance that someday they'll actually find some talent they can hang a hat on as "Canadian." Other than pretentious crap about Prairie angst, anyway. Generally speaking, your chances will go up expontially if you've been published, so start by writing opeds for the local rags and generally try to fluff up your cv. You might even consider self-publishing, but you have to research that one real well first.

very good West Viking. My argument with this is the people on here who would take away senior benefits and the ones who would force people living in the Maritimes to move to Alberta. No one is "forced" to live anywhere. If you want to job and there are no jobs in the Maritimes, then you move. If you want to sit on pogey and complaint that no one is giving you a job, then have at 'er. How you can couch this simple economic reality in terms of coercion is beyond me.

Not to get off topic, but, this has me questioning.... Is the financial savings so great for these dresses that it pays to rent a car from Toronto and go to Buffalo and return, just to look at bridesmaid dresses? One would think a good horse blanket with eyeholes would do...

How can you believe in religion?

You seem to 'take' things incorrectly quite often. No need to stop doing so now. You must be still smarting from previous threads, what with all the driveby snipings lately, eh wot? -
Well put.

How ridiculous. Private healthcare kills people now? -
Anyone who owns a business is used to these things popping up on a regular basis. They usually involve some rich guy with no relatives plummeting out of the sky in some airliner, although occasionally they get really creative, like the one I got from Arafat's widow asking for help in transfering his ill gotten gains out of Palestine. This particular one claims that $21 million of olympic lobbying money somehow got forgotten and that they desperately need help moving it out of South Africa, so naturally their first recourse was to contact a complete stranger on the internet, reveal the entire crime, and await my response. My response is below the letter, and if anyone gets these letters on a regular basis and would like to have a little fun, you're welcome to use it. One of these days I'll get a bite... Someone else that has a lot of fun with these guys is http://www.ebolamonkeyman.com/ Dear Mr Muckyeck: Don't you want to succeed in life? Do you want to keep getting ignored or reported to the authorities? What if you could get: * 100s of replies? * 1000s of dollars? * 1,000,000s of respect from your partners in crime? I mean really...who is going to believe that someone simply "forgot" about $21 million dollars and that you want to hand it out to a stranger just because? You'd be more believable if you told me the local termite hill started spewing rand notes yesterday. Do you think people on the internet are stupid? Of course they are, but not that stupid! What would it be worth to you to be able to lick a stamp, put it on an envelope, and then sit back and wait for $1000s of dollars to roll in? Hi, I won't tell you my name, because if you're smart enough to take me up on this incredible offer, we'll be partners in crime, but I am going to do you the biggest favor in the world! What you are reading now could change your life! I taught Dan Kennedy and all the so-called "salescopy gurus" everything they know about selling through words! My sales pages on the net sell for $1000s of dollars each! What if you could spend $1000 and have a letter that would reap you 1,000,000s? Would it be worth it? What kind of return are you getting now? 1 out of 100? 1 out of 1000, and then even they get lost as soon as they get your next letter and find out it's a scam? Isn't it frustrating opening your email and finding...well...nothing except maybe an angry customer or two? What if you could get 25 out of 100? That's 250 out of 1000! What if they kept coming back for more? What if they sent you money without you even asking? What if your mailbox was crammed full of huge checks from unsuspecting marks? Every single day! What would that be worth to you? $1000? $10,000? Well, today is your lucky day! Because I like you and you're my friend, I'm going to give you the deal of your life! Not only will you get a phenomenal return on your scam letters, the respect of your peers, and new shoes, but you won't have to spend millions to do it! Not even thousands! Call me crazy, but I like you, so I'm going to share my amazing secrets with you for only $200! That's right, you read it right! $200 for a customized form letter gauranteed to have marks pleading to send you money! Imagine what it'll be like, stashing all those American dollars away and living like a king. And there's a bonus too! Not only will you get a phenomenal return on your scam letter, the respect of your peers, and new shoes, but once the first letters start to roll in, I'll take the worry out of your hands and handle all the correspondence for you for the same price! Each letter will cost you $200, but I guarentee 100% success or half your money back! That's right...a money back guarantee! This is a completely risk free investment for you! Not only will you get a phenomenal return on your scam letter, the respect of your peers, and new shoes, AND have all your worries taken away, but you get back your investment back if it doesn't work! How can you lose?

Female Genital Mutilation/Circumcision
ScottSA replied to cybercoma's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
But that's not the point. You made a claim that effectively removes the moral distance between her a Beelzebub or the Old Man on the Mountain. -
Well, you just run along and find a nice dry rock with lots of grubs to eat and commune with, while the rest of us move along trying to build a better world.

Whatever. It's not me making a horse's ass of myself foolishly arguing things I have no clue about.
