  1. Just to get a sense of the incredible blunder Dion has made in hitching his horse to the Greens and the Global Warming fad, imagine what the stock market would do the day Dion won, having announced that he intends to impliment Kyoto. He may be a fool, and assorted enviromaniacs may be fools, but institutional investors aren't. The stock market would fall by at least a third. And that's before the economy even started to feel the concrete effects. Which is not to say that Dion can or will try for the goals of Kyoto, because it can't be done. But it will make of him a liar typical Liberal in the eyes of the country.
  2. Here Topaz bares his agenda. The trouble of course is that there are no "minorities" in any other society. There are either armed camps made up of minorities or there is one big majority and a lot of dead people. Evil corrupt white man are actually the only society that invented minority coexistence on a basis of equality. Look to the "first nations"? A stoneage society practising slavery and general barbary as best it could in between chasing dinner and dying of old age around 25? A society that morphed from stoneage to welfare alcoholic in a couple of generations?
  3. Yes, I see it all now. The top secret Council of the Black Hand and 34,000,000 sundry hangerson and plotters of 911 cleverly disguised their intention to turn us all nazi by, well, cleverly arranging army bases in the shape of a swastika. Well done. That ought to keep people in the dark!
  4. Sorry all, I just can't take this kind of hysterical hyperbole any more seriously than I take Polly's rants about swastika shaped buildings and deathrays from the imperial councils. BuSH iS BeELzeBUb!1!!1!!!! Indeed.
  5. So when are you going to swear off all products of fossil fuels and go stand in your backyard naked for a month without eating?
  6. Finally, something to look forward to. As long as you can see ok out of the burka you'll be wearing.
  7. so, we shouldn't care until the geek buys a pair of semi-auto hand guns and murders 33 people? I'd like to think there is middle ground - like, when bullies use racism as their rallying cry, their punishment be made a public example - so 1)put the bullies in their place and 2)disarm the geeks You may not have noticed woody, but no one was shot. The bullies may be in danger of being blown up of course, when offendi gets back to school after being adorned with C4 by his lovingly devout parents, but so far no one is hurt.
  8. We can't? The Indians stopped smelting the same day they allegedly started, so all things pass, don't they? The Chinese made fireworks but little else with gunpowder, no matter how much earlier they invented it, while Europeans took the invention and changed it. Lots. Things do change, and where there's a will there's a way. "human rights" are based upon individuals, as I understand it, and not groups defined by race.
  9. Be happy. Don't you see all the ads with happy multicult faces smiling at you? "Diversity", "Vibrancy". Happy happy. Now of course the barrage of poitical correctness will descend with all sorts of accusations of "racism", as if everybody ought to be thrilled about turning the country over to cultures that haven't quite made it out of the middle ages yet.
  10. Well, its a gray area on a map of San Diego. I realize that your noodle is undeniably baked, but mine isn't. How is this map supposed to bake it?
  11. RUN!!111!11! ItS Teh ScArRY NeOConS!@1!11!1! TeY KillMaIM Us All TeH TimE!!11!!!111
  12. Are you going to bicycle to Central America? I think the problem is that it is completely impossible for the average person to not exploit fossil fuels in some plastic fashion or another. This dependence is what will kill us. No one is a hypocrite for pointing out our society's unsustainability just because they also live in it. But one is a hypocrit is they claim everyone else is evil except for them. Which is what woody is up to. Short of living in a cave and striking sparks from flints, woody can no more live without the products of fossil fuels than anyone else. I happen to think we should wean ourselves from fossils fuels too; for a very different reason to be sure; but like most people not trancing inside a resiny hemp field, I realize that one can't simply shut off the FF tap and have fantastic green technology appear magically at my fingertips. Those technologies will arrive in good time, as they are arriving now. As the internal combustion engine arrived and eventually replaced the horse.
  13. That is truly funny. What makes it even funnier is that it is obviously the way he sees the world.
  14. Imagine all the people...in show business sticking to show business instead of branching out into worlds they know less than nothing about. Especially when dealing with an issue like this one, in which they "environmental footprint" around like mad elephants flying from venue to venue and cruising about in limosines and living lifestyles thousands of times more environmentally destructive than anyone else.
  15. This is a lie. No surprise, tho, the guy has been upset with me ever since, after I showed up his failure to understand the meaning of the word 'hegemony,' he was permanently banned from another forum and he blamed me for it. Two things: If you had read the Koran, you'd know that Allah allegedly told Mohammed precisely what to do. Not in some parable, but right from the lips of Allah to Mohammed's ear. The only one lying here ain't me. I was banned from some forum and I blame you because you were right about hegemony? I don't know what hegemony means? What exactly are you on about? I have no idea what this part of your rant is about, but it reminds me of some dishevelled bum in a bar mumbling incorently about how another beer will fix his life. Perhaps you should have that professionally looked at.
  16. Perhaps you should read my post again.
  17. Hey woody, I challenge you to spend a year, nay, a month, not using fossil fuels or any products which require them. Are you game? Can you go a month without eating? almost as if he knew what he were talking about --- people ate, long before they used fossil fuels and if we are lucky enough to survive the buffoons who now poison the earth with their fossil fuel derivatives and their personal stupidity, people will go on eating after fossil fuels are long gone Right. So I'm challenging you to do the same. Starting now. Turn off your computer, your heat, your electricity, your water, take everything out of your fridge that was produced with the help of fossil fuels and give it to your neighbour, give away your car, stop going to work, and live outside your house without a tent or any bedding except whatever animal skins or nonindustrial cottage industry material you can dredge up. I dare you to give up the use of fossil fuels or its derivitives for a month. Since you think wind power is so easy to switch to, you can probably rig up some sticks and twigs into some sort of windmill, although where you are going to get the wire to transmit power, or to what end, is beyond me. But hey woody, natural is best, right? Think you can do it? How sad, particularly for you slow pated luddites who can't see a transformation that is measurable in under 6 months and --- ****wake up here lads **** over the course of five years, a program which could be truly phenomenal and outward reaching across all aspects of society. How drab and dull, the world you live in -- take a look, find someone who can inject some color into your brain and picture yourself leading the way to mankinds golden beginning. take your hippie clap trap and your toxic-carcinogenic-toxic-waste,lesion-producing luddite past and give it over to the NEW TECHNOLOGY!!! --- HEY, IT'S AT YOUR DOOR http://www.managenergy.net/products/R1002.htm http://www.faz.net/d/invest/meldung.aspx?id=45345048 http://www.wind-works.org/FeedLaws/Germany...terFischer.html I take it that's a "no"?
  18. CATEGORY GLOBAL HECTARES FOOD 3.4 MOBILITY 0.9 SHELTER 2.4 GOODS/SERVICES 3.4 TOTAL FOOTPRINT 10.1 5.6 planets. So when do we get them?
  19. In fact, in this case I didn't report the post, I merely cited a rule you had seemingly overlooked. Anyway, No, I will not accede to your request. You might as well stop disrupting threads with your groundless objections. Please read the portion I have put in boldface above. Reported. With an explaination to Greg that you have been repeatedly asked by several people not to disrupt threads with this useless announcement of your reportage. Just please do it quietly. If you must alert people to their doom, please do it in pms. What's so hard about that?
  20. You just disrupted this one with this comment. Really, your peurile objections to the concept of forum rules is out of place here. If you don't like a forum with rules, you are free to leave, I'm sure. Or you could take it up with Greg and get him to change the rules to suit you idiosyncratic preferences. Do let us all know how that effort pans out. Anyway, this is the last time I intend to discuss this matter with you, so spare me the whinging. Please stop disrupting threads.
  21. This entire post appears to make of Harper yet another cynical politician concerned only over the optics of putting young men's lives onm the line. What if, just by some freak chance, Harper is doing what he thinks SHOULD be done instead of what looks good? We're so used to decades of Liberal poll-driven government that perhaps it's a political culture shock to see a politician acting on his beliefs rather than on expediency. In any event, beefing up the forces is what he said he would do, so it shouldn't come as a startling surprise that he's doing it. He's not a Lib, y'know...
  22. So? You may not want it. But I disagree with you about you needing it. I've told you numerous times already, the remedy is to learn and follow the rules. You may as well drop these pointless objections. This forum operates a certain way, and I am simply acting within it. Whetehr you like that or not makes no bones whatsoever. In fact, in this case I didn't report the post, I merely cited a rule you had seemingly overlooked. Anyway, No, I will not accede to your request. You might as well stop disrupting threads with your groundless objections. It is the initial rule breach that disrupts the thread. Please just quietly file your little reports. Please don't help me anymore.
  23. reported Are you going to continue to go around typing 'reported' all over the place for no good reason? And lest you attempt to compare your practices to mine, I'll point out that my reports are based on the forum rules, whereas some of yours have seemed to be based on nothing at all. Stop disrupting threads.
  24. Two things: First, it's not "radical Islam" under discussion; it's Islam. Second, without the Church's preservation of Greco-Roman heritage through the dark ages, we would not be where we are today. Before someone jumps in with the riposte that Islam also preserved the same heritage, let me point out that Islam did not use that heritage in the way Christendom did, and in fact ended up discarding it. But aside from the tradition of literacy the Church has given us, let's take a step back in time, before the renaissance and the birth of science as we know it. The western mind has not always been knee deep in rationalism. How and why did scientific enquiry become the dominant paradigm in the west? We can point to the printing press, but that isn't the reason; China had the technology centuries before and it went nowhere. We can point at all sorts of things, but the underlying ethos of enquiry came from questioning religion and the richness of that debate. Some parts of those early religious debates may seem trite in the hindsight of centuries, but they and they alone set the stage for the renaissance. Or, to use a more appropriate analogy, they prepared the fields for the seeds of rationalism. Technology in and of itself does not much unless it is exploited and improved upon, and the will to do so has to exist prior to the technology. We are where we are in the west precisely because of the spirit of inquiry set loose during the reformation; a reformation neither Islam nor any other major religion has ever had. It is due entirely to our Judeo-Christian heritage that the west surpassed the east by several orders of magnitude in every sphere of existence..
  25. I wonder why that would be? Could it be because Fundamentalist Christians aren't blowing themselves up to the tune of 10 or so a day around the world? Hmmm...
